Propublica reports that DOGE cuts to IRS threaten to cost more than DOGE will ever save.  Cutting IRS means the government collects less revenue.  Studies found for every dollar spend by IRS, the agency returns $5-$12.  So widespread cuts to IRS make no sense if government cares about reducing budget deficits.  Nonpartisan congress budget office recommendations for deficit reduction focus more on increasing revenue instead of cutting costs.

I do not see the logic in suggesting since data is not safe that these goofs can scorch earth anything they want and especially given how partisan and quite lousy of a job they are doing. I would think it is best to perform a task to completion before claiming victory but no these partisan kids are not really looking to make things better, they are looking to elevate Musk and his ultra conservative partisan objectives.
