It's an addiction, you don't just cut back your wagers. You have to understand why you're gambling on sports or casinos. Understanding this is the first step in controlling your addition.
For me, I always thought I was smart enough to understand sports and pick 53% winners. I did manage to pick 53% on the plays I felt strongly about. However once you start wagering everyday, you can't just play one game a day and be satisfied with it. I felt the need to have action all the time.
I started to guess and crunch numbers and when I couldn't make up my own mind, I blindly followed others who sounded like they knew what they were talking about. Of course, I also paid touts for picks thinking they knew what they were talking about.
In short, I came to the conclusion and convinced myself that "I" was not capable of winning long term in sports gambling. Not because I didn't know sports but because of how I was "wired". People like myself cannot win because no matter how hard I try, I can't just play one game and stop. I gradually start playing more and more games and eventually go broke.
Once you convince yourself that you can't win and understand why you can't win. You'll start to lose interest in gambling all together. I'm still here lurking and making a few bets here and there but I know I'll lose it in time. So, I don't bet much anymore. Little here and there for fun and I'll be gone for a few months after that and maybe comeback again for some fun again but nothing significant that it could hurt me to the point of making me depressed about it.
Understand yourself and convince yourself that you CAN'T WIN and that could be your first step to quitting.

Lower your bet amounts apply proper money management if you can't quit.
Slowly grind away until you reach your target, set yourself small targets e.g if your down 50gs say you want to make 5k a month and do it by making small bets and picking winners, all takes a bit of studying and research its hard for us all but you got to stick in there and back yourself.

There's always a way out of bad situation and suicide is not the way.... Think about your kids and what that will do to them... Reach out to someone close to you and get some help... I will be praying for you and your situation.
