This line is as good as the Illinois line.
Dave Malinsky, the pro handicapper who recently died while hiking had a mantra that I always followed: "Get to the window early or click submit before the hundreds or thousands of others do before you swooping in to take the best number."
We saw exactly that with Illinois going from -2 to as high as -5.5.
Checking lines on a Monday morning at 1:50 has it's advantages. This is one of them.
Ohio State -13.5 over Purdue
This line is WAY too low and I'm am literally blown away the books think Purdue can hang within under 2 TD's vs. a team that will likely be in the National Title game.
Simply put, Purdue absolutely does not have the defense to handle the dynamic OSU offense and the all-world QB Dwayne Haskins (among many others on offense).
He will cut them up like a Ginsu 2000 knife through a leather shoe on a 2am infomercial.
Brohm LOVES gimmick plays (fake punts, throws from WR to QB) but those only take you so far. When the cream of the crop comes to town, that crap doesn't work.
This Purdue defense is largely laughable at times. You have to understand how great a coach Brohm is. He gets every ounce of production out of his players and makes duct tape and twine look like a Christmas Ornament on a White House Christmas Tree. He's that good of a coach.
But there is an upper bound to what he can get out of you, particular on Defense where this team has a bevy of underclassmen not ready for this matchup, before the flaws show.
Example: One of the worst teams in the nation, winless Nebraska, put up almost 600 yards of offense on Purdue. With 9 starters on D gone, 9 who were of the top 9 tacklers, this unit should has truggled! And they did opening 0-3 with mistakes galore all over the field.
Beating Illinois is meaningless when it comes to this game.
OSU will carve them up. Blough will throw for a bunch and Rondell Moore will get his TD's and then you'll look up and see 41-20 (with the 20 being a backdoor TD in the final minute) and that will be the end of it.
Simply put a team like Purdue is:
A) Most definitely NOT winning this game, and you can write that down, and if they are not winning;
B) OSU will take control by the end of the second quarter or like Penn State did 2 years ago when they went into halftime at 17-17, drop a bomb on them to put any notion of Purdue hanging around to backdoor a win, out the window.
I can only think of two games in the past 6 years where Purdue hung with a team of OSU's caliber:
Last year against Wisky they lost 17-9 where they covered ATS. But remember Wiksy is about ball control because Hornibrook is limited. That is NOT what this OSU team is, a team that can score at will and MUST do so especially against the like of Purdue if they think they have any shot of beating Bama.
And also Michigan State in 2014, where they lost 24-21. Interesting to note that game occurred in an ice storm where anything can happen.
Purdue is not getting within 2 TD's here and 13.5 is a borderline insult.
