Yes, LARGE! Why? Because when the books discover how bad this Kings team is, these lines are going to fly through the roof.
And 8.5 here is a discount in comparison.
Simply put, this Jazz team is one of the most complete teams in the NBA, and can beat anyone, from the Celtics to the Warriors to the Rockets on any night.
They are sound defensively and have matured enough offensively to get over this number. Their season win total in a LOADED West is 48 and I find that to be low.
Meanwhile the RSW for the Kings is 26 and that is the second lowest number in the NBA after the Hawks 23.5.
Let me give it to you straight.
I watched the Kings vs. Jazz preseason game where the Kings gave their starters significant minutes and the Jazz gave their bench significant minutes.
The result was an absolute laugher:
With the starters on the floor in the first quarter the score was 39-10 Jazz.
This was extended to a whopping 45-10.
Then the Jazz bench took over and they never looked back winning by 40.
I know you shouldn't put too much stock in a preseason game but the Kings are not hiding anything:
Their leading scorer from last season is amazingly... Zach Randolph. And they benched him to tank.
So what will you see tomorrow night? Significant minutes from:
Marvin Bagley III (Played 0 minutes in the NBA regular season)
Harry Giles (Played 0 minutes in the NBA regular season)
Yogi Ferrel (Their significant offseason free agent acquisition)
Buddy Heild (who can easily shoot 4-16 from the field)
Ben McLemore (yes they brought him back because...)
This team is a dumpster fire and can put a scare into you on some nights and lose and lose outright with abandon the next.
The Jazz are EXACTLY the same as last year, fully healthy and added Grayson Allen who has an outside shot to pad the spread. They blew away the preseason competition at 5-0 with the biggest pt differential in the NBA. Yes, preseason is preseason but when you have a team with this kind of stability and one that is this dependable, it serves as a nice litmus test for the start of the regular season.
This side is so good, I passed up the money I was going to put on the Jazz RSW total over 48 and put it on this game.
Simply put the Jazz are exactly what the Kings dream to be and are light years from.
8.5 is a tricky number, especially on the road. But two rookies getting significant minutes, asking future DPOY Gobert to handle Willie Cauly Stein and Rubio to outshine Yogi is within 8.5 points of my liking.
