Baseball is such a fickle game!
The “best team” doesn’t always win.
Stat: no team who has gone down 3-0 has ever forced a game 6, in the WS - still stands.
That top of the 5th, will go down in history as one of the most pathetic ones in WS history. How the fuck do you expect to win a WS (not that they would've, even if they forced a game 6) when you can't even make rudimentary baseball plays?! Rizzo hasn't been the same since that concussion, he made some major blunders in the Cleveland series, yet the one from last night takes the cake, unreal mistake.
As for Cole, it's not his fault, Boone should've pulled him before facing Freeman. In this whole series that mofo got to everything they pitched him inside, what does Cole do? Throws him one inside...
Meh, I dunno where you go from here, the Yankees have some major decisions to make, with Soto being the biggest one. Rizzo, Torres and Verdugo will all be FA, imo only Torres has a chance of coming back, and I don't see Rizzo playing 1st base for anyone, maybe some team will sign him to be a DH. If Soto's demands are outrageous, they shouldn't sign him, he alone wont make a difference, the Yankees already have several guys who are getting paid a shit ton of money, adding another one will at most get you to the WS, as shown this season.

@lbcake
Lol, this isn't even a deep cut, it's straight up bone sawing I wonder how many people got it...
I do have a proper example, of invoking the said 5th.

Soto in or out isn't the splash they really need. Depth is what they need. Did Dominguez get a single AB in the series? Other than the 2nd catcher there was not a single other bench player that got an AB I think. Baserunning was bad, errors were worse.

I know, I know, I only brought up Soto because everybody is obsessed with signing him. Looking at the series, they lost because of their 3 major shortcomings:
1. shitty defense; the worse part being some mistakes were on rudimentary plays.
2. hitting with RISP; them not knowing how to play small ball and only swing for the fences played a big role in that; baserunning was also a problem, as John Sterling said: they run the bases like drunks.
3. managing, namely Boone and his awful bullpen management, and fuck him for bringing Cortes on in the bottom of the 10th, in game 1, instead of Hill.
They shied away from Dominguez because his defense is weak, in left field, as shown in the few matches he started there, yet I'm fairly certain he will get his chance in spring training, and he should be starting in LF.
Infield wise, Torres and Volpe, at times, looked like dumb & dumber out there, throughout the season, botching up easy plays. Volpe ain't going anywhere, so you need a 2B, I'd rather they look at other options, Torres has been declining for years, imo he is not worth a long-term contract. They will also need someone at 3rd, Jazz isn't reliable, unless he works at it and maybe improves? Who knows... Rizzo should be done, same goes for DJ, who unlike Rizzo still has 2 more years, so someone new? I don't think Rice is the answer either.
So yeah, they have big problems to address, I looked at the payroll and they will have $107 mil more in 2025, as opposed to 2024, if they keep the same salary cap, given all their needs you can't spend half of that on only one player...
