since i criticized (and ridiculed, of course) trump in the other thread, i should answer this one.  and my answer to this question is i don't have an answer.  one, i don't know enough about the particulars in syria and middle east relationships plus russie and whomever else to have a great idea.  two, i'm not sure there is a good idea of what should be done.

that being said, just because we don't know what to do doesn't mean we can't identify when an action appears to be friggin stupid or designed to serve some ulterior motive like improve approval ratings as trump alluded to himself before.

i would tend to agree with shiek on these things.  the true conservative approach.  you don't go attacking countries unless it is necessary for defense.  it makes no sense that trump would attack syria after their 100th chemical attack against the citizens when he wasn't even willing to take some of them into our country when they've been dealing with this garbage for years.

it also seems clear that syria and similar countries have been a clusterfuck for a while and will continue to be.  us dropping a few bombs on an airstrip without even incapacitating, what purpose does that serve other than waste money?

also, if we wanted to take out assad.  who do we think will take over.  some benevolent leader?  when does US induced regime change ever work?

this is a continuing problem with non-conservative (mostly republican but democratic as well) government.  sure there may be a situation that is problematic (and that's obviously putting it lightly here), but if our government can't improve it, as it usually can't because government isn't good at that from police to local government to state government to federal government, then it should largely stay the f*ck out of things.

so if i had to answer, i would say, maybe there is something our high priced intelligence community could recommend that would improve things for victims in syria and the country as a whoile.  i doubt any of us really know what that is, if it exists.  but if it does and can be done with relatively minimally involvement by us and certainly not bombs and war which always people things up, then i say do that.

beyond that, as i've said before, we take in immigrants and refugees every day and despite what trump says, they really aren't the scary brown killers and rapists he may want us to believe.   we should take a reasonable number of these kids and parents in to try and save them.  we can easily do that without wasting a lot of our money and friggin things up more by bombing whatever we bombed for whatever reason we did it which won't help anything.

Had to soften nape it all

When that is essentially what Clinton stated last Thursday .
Kind of when you start hearing bezebub
Agree with you most likely went emotionally over the top.

Also would have loved to see Freddy and also Phil hang around. But we have a great leaderboard going into Sunday and hopefully it will produce high drama as it usually does.

First round of the season on Tuesday......knock the rust off and have a blast man.

The U.S. should probably stay out of Syria judging by how their last 10 or so humanitarian wars have gone. Trump said he was going to go after ISIS and Jihadis, but the MIC calls and "political reality" sets in. The fact that John McCain, Lindsay Graham, and Hillary Clinton are so giddy after this attack is distressing. Let Syrians decide what their future looks like.

so if i had to answer, i would say, maybe there is something our high priced intelligence community could recommend that would improve things for victims in syria and the country as a whoile.  i doubt any of us really know what that is, if it exists.  but if it does and can be done with relatively minimally involvement by us and certainly not bombs and war which always people things up, then i say do that.

beyond that, as i've said before, we take in immigrants and refugees every day and despite what trump says, they really aren't the scary brown killers and rapists he may want us to believe.   we should take a reasonable number of these kids and parents in to try and save them.  we can easily do that without wasting a lot of our money and friggin things up more by bombing whatever we bombed for whatever reason we did it which won't help anything.

I tend to always be of the opinion that the US should not be meddling in other countries affairs.
Of course Trump previously suggested he felt the same way and was lambasted as being a Nationalist. I never understood why the MSM and the left made nationalism out to be a negative ... probably because it was Trump who made the comments about putting America first. Anyway ...

There is something about visualizations that alter a mind set.
After 9/11 GWB stood on top of the rubble of the Twin Towers and proclaimed that the responsible parties would pay for that catastrophe. The entire country was in full agreement at that time.

For me personally, I had a similar reaction to the pictures of the Syrian father holding his dead young twins in his arms. Obviously, this is on a smaller scale of damage/death/emotion, but the images still stir a strong response of humanity.

As some have noted in this thread, it is tough to opine as to what to do because we are not privy to the same Intel as the President. Of course, not having that same Intel will not stop the detractors from attacking the President no matter what he does.

This Syrian crisis is just politics as usual for many here.
The President does nothing, he will get slaughtered.
The President takes out Assad, he will get slaughtered.
The President threatens/postures, he will get slaughtered.

Thus my question to the detractors BEFORE any action/inaction ... what should he do?

An honest answer would have been ... "we have no opinion, we are just going to wait until Trump does, or doesn't do something, and then we will criticize him for it"

that being said, just because we don't know what to do doesn't mean we can't identify when an action appears to be friggin stupid or designed to serve some ulterior motive like improve approval ratings as trump alluded to himself before.

i would tend to agree with shiek on these things.  the true conservative approach.  you don't go attacking countries unless it is necessary for defense.  it makes no sense that trump would attack syria after their 100th chemical attack against the citizens when he wasn't even willing to take some of them into our country when they've been dealing with this garbage for years.

it also seems clear that syria and similar countries have been a clusterfuck for a while and will continue to be.  us dropping a few bombs on an airstrip without even incapacitating, what purpose does that serve other than waste money?

For the record, I am not a Trump supporter, nor apologist.
I'm embarrassed that he is our President ... although I remain of the "anyone but Hillary" mindset.

What I have always had, and continue to maintain, is the ability to view actions and judge them on their merits, sans political bias.

I've been on this planet for a while now, and in my lifetime the political divide has never been so great as it is now. Nothing even close.
If you blame Trump for this, you are blinded by bias.
If you blame Obama for this, you are blinded by bias.

trump will definitely get criticized no matter what he does.  that's why they pay you (or you can scam) the big bucks for being president.  it's also the nature of the middle east clusterfuck.  and trump brings it upon himself more than most by being generally clueless about things and talking so much nonsense.

however, people not knowing the answer doesn't mean 1. that we can't identify what appears to be a stupid strategy or some other bullshit ulterior motive nor 2. that we don't have the standing to criticize him.

protesting and criticizing government at all levels is good.  they work for you and they are largely shite.

My issue, as to my general answers on subjects like this is to complain AGAIN, about the hypocrisy of both parties.

During the Obama years, the Republicans (except McCain) railed against intervention. Their argument was that action only exacerbated an unstable situation. Tough to argue with the truth.

The Dems supported Obama's intervention against Assad. Now, some Dems, to their credit, have supported this move by Trump but in a fairly limited sense. For the most part, the support has been with trepidation.

Trump handled this just fine. The only caveat is that weakening Assad strengthens terrorism. That is pretty simple. What comes next is the hard part.

Assad and the Syrian government before the Arab spring was considered a state sponsored terrorist regime with it's supply chain to then plot Hama's and Hezbollah in the Israeli claimed west bank.
They are still a terrorist sponsored state
But Isis is sunni and assad is Shiite bit both claim to be bathist in political parties same as Saddam was. Netanyahoo stated an enemy of my enemy is still my enemy.
I have to agree with his approach. I have not much respect for Assad or for Isis or really anyone that mocks my ham easter dinner as they eat the liver of a fallen enemy combatant as his blood pours to the ground.
I find most after a long term war nece as evil as their enemy and really if we are trying to pick the lesser of two evils
I still state I do not accept evil in any form.

    It's scary, actually

Interesting that not one person in this thread had any interest in what anyone from Syria thinks about the current situation.

This is a good illustration of the huge political divide in this country.

At first I applauded the idea that Trump would utilize twitter as a means of circumventing the MSM. I thought that once he was elected he would somehow become 'Presidential' in his words/tweets.
    Obviously I was wrong.

Trump still tweeting is just more proof of his narcissism.
There is no doubt that everyone around him has begged him to stop tweeting, or at least temper his words within them. But his ego will not allow him to do so.

So, yes, Trump opens himself up to more criticism than previous Presidents because of his own words. I'm pretty sure that 100% of Americans knew there would be no shortage of criticizing once he was elected. But what has gone on is beyond reasonable, it is borderline delusional.

All anyone need do is to think back to January 20th, and minutes after the new President was sworn in, Chris "I'm angry as fuk" Mathews claimed on national television that the Presidents speech was "hitlerian"

Trump does bring criticism upon himself, but what has/is going on is pathetic.

Incredibly beautiful weather yesterday. 77 degrees, blue skies with a slight breeze.
    Simply perfect.

It took me 5 holes to square up a single shot. Lot of hacking going on, particularly off the tee. Was hitting 3 off the tee on 3 separate holes.
Settled down for good on the 12th, and finished well, although never really got the driver going. Hit my irons pretty well.

Second round of season is tomorrow.

Great show on Showtime, in its 6th season, each one is quite different than the other.

Basically it is a microcosm of the CIA and how it functions with and without the federal government. It is very often quite fresh and current with whatever political issues there are in real time.

Get Showtime and if you have On Demand you can watch all 6 seasons, I would not skip and start from season one.
