The article shows what the Supreme Court ruled.
That the police don’t have an obligation to protect you or your kids.
If you want guaranteed protection you have to provide the protection yourself.

Just illustrates that mental health issues are a serious problem

Sounds like DeTox Meds is a supporter of defunding the police all of the sudden, since he believes they aren't required to do much of anything on the job.
What's the point of even having a police force?

he wants teachers armed and risking their lives to protect children because they're "basically rich" because they're making, on average, 58K against a 41K median household income.
Or he wants armed guards so that elementary schools resemble prisons, even though armed police officers sure dropped the ball.
More valid points.

It says “protect and serve” so that must mean they protect and serve.
It says “Patriot Act” that must mean the act is patriotic.
It says “Operation Iraqi Freedom”. Freedom is good so clearly what the US is doing over there is good.

*DEFUNDING POLICE IS NEVER THE ANSWER. I DON'T BELIEVE IN DEFUNDING THE POLICE, EVEN THOUGH I KNOW POLICE SOAK UP BUDGET, WHILE OFTEN TIMES HAVING HORRIBLE SOLVE RATES AND BEING MIRED IN CONTROVERSY, I BELIEVE IN FUNDING AND SUPPORTING OUR MEN AND WOMEN IN LAW ENFORCEMENT.
I agree. We will note though that "defunding the police" always was a misnomer, much like the "Don't say gay bill"
It was never meant literally, nor without context. Just that much of our tax dollars used to hire police officers to include petty complaints and and many types of domestic disturbance or mental health issues, would be better spent on specific professionals to handle those issues - freeing up the police to attend to matters to which they are fully trained.

You're not wrong.

Zeus, try explaining why you think only rich people should be allowed to own guns to defend themselves when the people that need to defend themselves the most are poor.

Protect and serve is just a slogan. I believe it came from LAPD police cars or something. However every LEO takes an oath. And again, while verbage may change, they all say something about protecting the public. I guess in your fairytale world, lacking "constitutional obligation" is good enough reason to of not perform the job for which you are paid. Firemen don't have "constitutional obligation" either but they risk their lives to protect both person and property, because that is the job for which they are paid. Yes, there are scenarios in which firemen stand down but defending the actions of these officers by simply saying, "They have no constitutional obligation..." Is completely fucking asinine.

I'm not rich.
I own a 2019 model car. Aside from the very expensive cost of the car, I pay maintenence every year, reg fees, insurance, and maintain my driver's license. It's all expensive. Most are in the same boat.
And we are not rich. It's the cost of ownership, if one wants or not. It is my right.
Likewise I have the right to purchase and own a deadly firearm if I choose. It should be everybit as expensive.

Don't know any rational people who would disagree with this.

Of course it's asinine. But in Detox fantasy land he is never wrong. He is one of those guys.

I'm not here to throw shade at Tox's upbringing. Like him or not, he often makes very valid points. Sometimes his opinions miss the mark. Sometimes he is just stirring the shit and pushing buttons. I'm not here to throw shade at the guy. We agree on a ton of things. We disagree on things too. We disagree here.
I can only partly agree, based on the few months I've observed his behavior. Yup he often makes very valid points, as do many others here. But more frequently he does not. Most of the time (not just sometimes) he is trolling and "stirring sht and pushing buttons" deliberately I might add to draw people downs his fantasy rabbit hole without end. I have no particular dislike for the guy, but he's loose with relevent facts, ignores counterpoints 99% of the time, and his opinions are usually flawed logic, let alone outright distasteful in the majority of posts, based on my observations.
But this thread should not be about him or any forum member.

It's funny too because Detox Meds constantly claims that mental health is the primary cause of these mass shootings and not guns.
However, according to his logic, the Constitution says nothing about the government being responsible for mental or psychological health of citizens, so apparently mental health should just be ignored and disregarded by politicians, state actors, and police, since there is no constitutional obligation to enhance mental health of the populace.

Very accurate description of Detox.

Lifeguard watches a kid drown. Stands there, drinks a Mai Tai, and watches a kid drown. When asked why he says, "I had no constitutional obligation to save that kid."
Tox's fantasy world. All teachers are worthless.
We're going to find successful businessmen to fill all teaching positions. Oh yeah, and cops have no "constitutional obligation" to save kids. Sure, it's their job. They just aren't bound by the constitution to do so because, you know, the framers of the constitution felt it necessary to cover such things.
I remember having a teacher just like i_need_a_detox.
He was fired.
Your point is acknowledged. Most jobs, particularly careers in public service, come with presumed and possibly unwritten responsibilities and this includes our police, military and security forces.
