There were compromises but that occurs in almost every bipartisan bill that passes, and so perfectly acceptable given the alternative of default which the MAGA anarchists were cheering for.

US is lucky to have Biden as president to avert potential crisis. This follows similar successes such as infrastructure bill, gun control, computer chips, postal service reforms and expanded veteran benefits. He puts partisan differences aside and get good things done. In contrast, DeSantis and Trump indicate preference for a debt default which would hammer financial markets, cause a recession, crash US dollar and put millions of people out of work.
Concessions gained by republicans in deal reveal their priorities are really to protect the rich from higher taxes and to inflict cruelty on the poor.

Although no default, radicalized republicans remain a huge threat to the US. They are likely to use the debt ceiling to hold US economy hostage again. But debt ceiling negotiations are a stupid waste of time because little actually changed. Most economists think there is no justification for debt ceiling to exist because risks far outweigh benefits. Most countries don't have a debt ceiling so that it cannot become a politicized abuse of power to manufacture a financial crisis.
As long as there are lobbyists and corporations rigging the budget there is no WIN when it comes to government spending. The source of the funds is the consumer in the end so how is an increasing number year over year a good thing when the consumer is not gaining MORE to their future?

Well to be fair the biggest leeches on the budget really are not the SS or low income consumer, the biggest blood sucking hogs are corps and special interests...this war mongering and military spending is the worst, I would rather invest in education, water desalinization, grid improvements, solar incentives, road fixes, stuff like that versus war mongering and wall building.
