In the 38 contested elections since 1988, the year she registered in NY she voted in about half.
Skipping most of the primaries.
She did not vote in dem primary for mayor in 1989 1993 1997 or 2005
Of those 4 the dems lost 3 of the general elections.
She also did not vote in primary or gen election in 1994 for the senate, this is the seat she now wants without a vote.
She did have soul food with al sharpton in harlem yesterday so I guess that coupled with her name makes her qualified
Sharpton coincidentally ran for that senate seat in 1994 but lost.
I do not dislike Caroline Kennedy, I like her actually. I just do not feel that a senate seat in one of the most powerful states in the nation should go to someone who has never had a single vote cast for them by ANY CITIZEN for ANYTHING.
This is not the PTA, or school board. This seat should go to someone who has walked the walk and lived a life of public service.
Let her run for the office, she would probably win and then be legitimately a senator.

I'm pretty sure Bloomberg was the biggest force behind her as well. Which I find very disappointing, as I considered him to be smarter than that...Maybe Bloomberg wants to tap that ass? hehe
In the times we live in now, you'd think that we as a country would feel compelled to send competant, effective, and proven leaders to the US Senate, when given a chance to appoint somebody rather than them being elected. Someone who can carry some intellectual might and in end are QUALIFIED to be a US Senator...Caroline Kennedy qualifies in name only, and fails everywhere else.

Caroline Kennedy qualifies in name only ------------- thats if you consider the Kennedy name to qualify you for anything except entitlement and a trust fund

I think NY is a bit like Cali - they want "personalities" in positions of power. They don't think about the consequences until massive corruption or budget problems slap them in the face. Then they forget about that when the election rolls around.
They want and need their politians to be newsworthy and always get the front page ink.

According to all of the demographic surveys I have seen, New York is one of the top states in educational level and intelligence quotient, so at least they wont be putting in any Neo-Cons. I think Cuomo, the younger, would be a viable choice. Or even the elder, but I havent heard anything about him recently.

The person that she's replacing....remember the term "carpetbagger?".....never held public office before becoming the junior senator from NY.....
The former governor of California and later POTUS never held public office before becoming governor......
Just to name 2........
But, of course, those bitching in this forum and others are the same idiots that would have had no problem having Sarah Palin a heartbeat away from the oval office......
Hypocrits and fools are what is left of the "Grand Old Party"....

A little misleading ( as usual) OPC. Reagan who you speak of was pres of SAG which of course has huge influence in LA. He was the driving force ridding SAG of it's prominent communist element and agenda with permeated the movie industry in those days.
I am neither a fool or a hypocrite, and anyone who supports Caroline with the same enthusiasm that they supported "change" 6 weeks ago is the hypocrite.

OPC, you are exactly right. These Neo-Cons have no problem touting an inexperienced candidate as long as they under the GOP banner. But, if he or she is a progressive or a Dem they are not qualified. Conversely,if they have some experience, then they dont represent "change." Nothing will make this shrinking portion of our political population happy in the next term, so why even bother. And Tilto, I dont think that the entire intellengsia work on Wall Street and the ones that do are mostly likely composed of a Neo-Con majority. I am just quoting from the U.S. Census Department regarding the demographics. Or maybe you think Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia Texas etc are among our most intelligent and informed states. Actually you probably do,considering your political stance. And if you want to pawn someone, you would have a lot better chance with Rod Steiger than you have with me.

I don't have ANYTHING against Caroline Kennedy personally. I am sure she is a fine lady. I do not think the Senate seat should be hers for the asking just because she is a KENNEDY, that's all.

Victor Davis Hanson just torches the shit out of any rationale possible for choosing this woman....
Caroline Kennedy is no doubt a fine individual who by all accounts has led an exemplary life. But her proposed appointment to the US Senate is a rare reflection of ourselves--the glittering of the aristocracy in the left's vision of an otherwise egalitarian America, the notion that blue-chip certification conveys status and wisdom rather than proven excellence through the life-school of hard knocks, and the ethical bankruptcy of the media that has no principled notion of disinterested inquiry, but now serves as an fawning appendage of the Left.In short, appointing Caroline Kennedy to the Senate from New York tells us a lot more about ourselves than it does even her

however, I will say that I do hope she gets in simply because the political news will be that much more interesting in the coming years with another Kennedy to kick around.
Don't you agree?

Not being a New Yorker, I don't really care.
