Nature I agree about ruffling the feathers of the elderly voting base". But political "positioning aside" this is pretty evil. Especially considering the financial cost of meals on wheels relative to the total pie and many many other policies that conveniently benefit "others"

in a cause and effect of whether money would be saved by cutting the program meals on wheels, . say the 3.5 million who depend on this program were cut from the program it is designed as a welfare check on shut ins. without this food they (the seniors) will die or make arrangements to enter a nursing facility or die.
once in the facility there assets will be absorbed if any to go to a escrow fund to provide longterm care they are allowed 40.00 a month from social security or assets to make do with personal conveniences. The fed then would be responsible for the care.
so instead of delivering a 5 buck meal the state and federal government can pay through medicare and medicaid, 3 meals @ 10.00 a full staff of cna pca laundry, gardening and grounds rns and dr as well as heat electricity and activities for the citizen.
we are saving about 5.00 a day to pay for a 2500 a day facility.
this makes absolutely no sense in saving money in long term short term or any term. Whomever came up with this cut is an behind clown, Trump included

The best strategic, common sense cuts are the UN budget cuts, specifically the refugee programs.
Another A+ cut--> Nat'l Public Broadcasting and Art Councils. CUT please!
PBS will get through its cuts with grants from the Bill and Melinda foundation, George SOROS foundation and contributions from viewers like myserlf, UN again can pay for its programs through qatar switzerland, Saudi Arabia and chinas participation , if UN removes its office to un headquarters switzerland so be it....
my focus is on programs that actually provide resousce Food to the elderly poor diabled... not just a bunch of forms to get a card to subsidize hannafords operations in scarboro me.

Not only could De-funding of Meals on Wheels force more elderly into Nursing Homes but they also lose that social contact with the delivery volunteers whom they look forward to seeing and conversing with on a daily basis. Cruel, very cruel.
Paul Ryan is a weasel. Put him on the top of my list of smirk faced politicians I would like to smack. Baztard. Just a fukking baztard.

I keep my 90 yr old Father with me at home and take him into the Nursing Home most days so he can have Lunch and Dinner with my 92 yr old Mother. Because he doesn't get Meals on Wheels at home, the Nursing Home gives him a price break on food and gets a partial reimbursement from the State. Guess I'll have to pick up that bill now too.

Love Maine. Never skied Shawnee but spent a lot of time in nearby Waterville Valley, NH. Skied Saddleback and Sugarloaf. Used to vacation in Rangely. Also climbed Mt Bigelow and of course Katahdin. Took a 10 day trip across the Allagash Waterway. Some really great memories.

Isn't it the Trump's budget proposal but not from Paul Ryan? It appears Trump proposes it.

...The popular program — which mainly uses volunteer drivers to provide
hot meals to older Americans across the country — doesn't directly
receive federal funding. As Trump's budget director, Mick Mulvaney, told
reporters Thursday, "Meals on Wheels is not a federal program."...

Ryan put the bug in Trump's ear. Ultimately it comes down to an individual State Budget decision. In the end, the Military Industrial Corporate Fukks rake in the profits while the Middle Class and Elderly take it up the azz.
The individual States absolutely have their hands tied.

Government grants made up just $248,347 of the funding – or 3.3 percent of total funds.
