Yellen: "Catastrophic" default on debt could halt Social Security payments to nearly 50 million seniors
CNN - “Nearly 50 million seniors could stop receiving Social Security payments or receive them delayed,” Yellen said.
“Our troops would not know when they would get their next paycheck.
We have 30 million families who rely on the monthly child tax credits and they would not receive that relief, at least not on time.”
Yellen added that the 2011 debt ceiling impasse showed how waiting until the last minute to raise the debt ceiling can hit investor and consumer confidence, rattle the stock market and raise borrowing costs.
A spike in interest rates would mean higher interest payments for all borrowers, Yellen said, including on mortgages, credit cards and small business loans.

Social Security beneficiaries would be at risk for not receiving their payments for the first time since the program was created in 1935, said Max Richtman, CEO of the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare. They are scheduled to receive $90 billion in payments in October.
RELATED: These government benefits would be at risk if Congress doesn't raise the debt ceiling Some 40% of beneficiaries depend on the monthly checks for at least 90% of their income, and two-thirds of recipients depend on the infusions for at least half of their income, he said. "Not having a check for a few weeks or a month is devastating," Richtman said. "Beneficiaries are going to have to decide: Do I pay my rent? Do I buy food? Do I buy my medicine?" Also, millions of parents who are set to receive three more monthly installments of the enhanced child tax credit this year may also have to wait for the funds if there is a default.

In the Build Back Better plan...
The legislation would establish a methane fee on emissions from the oil-and-gas industry that are above a certain threshold.
Biden recently announced the United States and the European Union have pledged to slash emissions of methane, a potent greenhouse gas, by nearly 30% by the end of this decade.
Scientists say methane traps 25 times more heat than carbon dioxide, making it a central problem in the climate crisis.
Methane is the main component of natural gas.

President Joe Biden's goal is to make the US power grid run on 100% clean energy by 2035, an ambitious target that would require a shift away from not only coal but natural gas as well.

Trump stooge Mike Lindell Claims 850-year-old Person Voted in 2020 Election
NEWSWEEK - MyPillow CEO and right-wing conspiracy theorist Mike Lindell has claimed that an 850-year-old voted in the 2020 Election, as well as more than 2000 people who were aged over 200.
Lindell, who for months has claimed he has proof that the 2020 election results were hacked despite never providing anything remotely substantial, gave no further details such as the name of the apparent 850-year-old, or where they voted.
The clip of Lindell making the unsubstantiated claims on his own website was posted onto Twitter.
He said he has proof, but provided nothing, once again.

Jon Gruden removed from Buccaneers' Ring of Honor in disgrace due to litany of bigoted comments
Gruden resigned after reports emerged of him using homophobic, racist and misogynistic language in emails while he worked as an ESPN analyst.
"The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have advocated for purposeful change in the areas of race relations, gender equality, diversity and inclusion for many years," the team said in a statement.
"While we acknowledge Jon Gruden's contributions on the field, his actions go against our core values as an organization. Therefore, he will no longer continue to be a member of the Buccaneers Ring of Honor."

Smith told USA Today that there is "potential for good" to come from this situation. "It took a long time for the league to recognize that they had not listened to the players and addressed their concerns about why players were kneeling or why players were actively becoming engaged in social justice issues," he said.

"Maybe there is the potential here for recognizing that there are people within our system that engage in or support ideas that we know are inconsistent with fairness and justice and equality, and maybe if we can embrace that quicker, then it gives us an opportunity to understand and fix what I believe are systemic problems in diverse hiring in the league."

'That sh*t doesn't fly'
The NFL's reigning Most Valuable Player, Aaron Rodgers, weighed in on Gruden's resignation, saying: "Those opinions don't have a place in the game."
"It was surprising to see that the thing went so quickly, but I think that was probably the best decision for all parties involved," he said on The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday.

The true story of how Mark Zuckerberg privatized the government's voter registration and vote counting for Democrats in 2020.
During the 2020 election, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg spent hundreds of millions of dollars to turn out likely Democratic voters. But this wasn’t traditional political spending. He funded a targeted, private takeover of government election operations by nominally non-partisan — but demonstrably ideological — non-profit organizations.
Analysis conducted by our team demonstrates this money significantly increased Joe Biden’s vote margin in key swing states. This unprecedented merger of public election offices with private resources and personnel is an acute threat to our republic, and should be the focus of electoral reform efforts moving forward.
