HATE speech and misinformation is rising on Twitter! (and elsewhere)

Which studies? Don't get me wrong, I'm not one to say this is one of the most pressing issues in today's world. And after seeing some numbers posted in this thread, my first thought was, "Is that all?" The occurrences were a lot less than I would've guessed. With that said, the internet is filled with some really vile shit. Racism, homophobia, etc. It used to be all over even this site back in the day, and still is at times. With that said though, if you're saying "real" hate speech has gone down since Elon took over then I'd be real curious about the sources.

Musk is choosing to define hate speech in a bonkers way that scores the number of times the vile, disgusting "hate speech" is viewed - and the op here is using that alleged "study" as valid evidence that, let me get this quote right,

"real hate speech on Twitter has actually gone down since Musk took over, despite what lefties want to claim."

Musk's claims about a fall in hate speech doesn't stand up to scrutiny.  Increases in hate and disinformation have been confirmed by University of Michigan, Tufts university, Anti-defamation league and Center for countering digital hate.  European union has pressed Musk to comply with Digital services act that require social platforms to reduce online harm or face penalties.  As expected after massive layoffs, twitter no longer has enough employees to enforce content moderation policies.  90% of twitter revenue comes from advertising.  Despite Musk reassurances, advertisers lost confidence and almost half of them left twitter.

Who are these "others"? I go back to my original post. Hate speech is hate speech. If people are posting such and such about f@gs and queers, this about nigg3rs, that about joos, that's hate speech. Has nothing to do with a disagreement.

 For example, if I were to say something like, "I don't believe there is a such thing as a "trans" person. I believe a man is man, a woman is a woman." some would view it as hate speech but it would just be an opinion.

Now if I were instead to say, "Trans people are vile. They are an abomination," that would be hate speech. Who would I (hypothetical, these aren't my views) to make such assertions? It would still just be opinion but it goes past that to the point of vilifying. It becomes aggressive. Such views foment hate in others. It perpetuates it. If I said something like, "All joos deserve gas showers," is that not hate speech? It would just be an opinion but is it not hate speech? Should such things go completely unregulated?

What you are trying to describe is "hate speech" mentions....they are referred to as "hate speech impressions", which is the number of times a user chooses to "click on and view" any said "impression", or in this case, "comment or mentions".  

So when "impressions are down" this means the number of times USERS ARE CHOOSING TO CLICK ON / READ SOMETHING.  So the "number of users choosing to read, comment, or like a hateful message/statement/etc is what this measuring as DOWN".

This is a good example here STU....  what the "hateful impressions" is measuring would be how many users would click on that hateful comment & opinion of the vileness of a certain person or group of people.  It is measuring the "clicks" and "likes" on such a comment.  The DATA is clearly showing that these "clicks" and "likes" of such are diminishing with less than .1% of the BILLIONS of these "impressions" daily.

Hate speech on Twitter has increased since Muskrat took over - but he thinks that because good users are REFUSING to actually view and/or retweet the increased hate speech, then to him, that means hate speech has gone down.

Normally, anyone who used logic like that would be known throughout the world as a MORON.

But Muskrat is no moron.  Therefore he is deliberately using this tactic for some nefarious purposes, possibly fraudulent in nature, to deceive advertisers and/or potential advertisers - given that he has lost nearly half of them due to his policies relaxing content moderation.

We shall see.

Still, counting the number of views/retweets (which he labels "hate speech impressions")  as a measure that the actual hate speech itself has gone down under his tenure is deceitful at best and moronic for those who espouse the same BS.

I know FACTS get lost in the fake narratives spun around here by the resident clown show BUT, it may be important to note, the same "ridiculous measurements" being used now to monitor "hate speech" ARE THE SAME as the previous Twitter regime used as measures.

  Let me give an example, if I may. Politicians are targets of everyone, obviously. We all hold disdain for many of them.

 If I say "Joe Biden is a dolt", I'll get all sorts of flack from the left, such as "you're an idiot", or "but, but Trump", etc.

 However, if I say "Maxine Waters is a dolt", the responses now become "you're a racist!", or "you're a misogynist!".

 Have I engaged in hate speech? Some would say "yes", when all I did was give an opinion of two different politicians.

False.  I am disagreeing with YOU right now.  Is that "hate speech"  or racism?   Hardly.   Nobody here is saying it is and nobody will.  It would be stupid.
