At the conclusion of Thursday night's Jan. 6 committee hearing, Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) praised the witnesses who have come forward to testify, noting that most are lifelong Republicans who had previously been proud to work for Trump in the White House.

"The case against Donald Trump in these hearings
is NOT made by witnesses who were his political enemies,"
Cheney, the REPUBLICAN vice-chair of the panel, said.

"It is instead a series of confessions by Donald Trump's
own appointees, his own friends, his own campaign officials,
people who worked for him for years, and his own family.
They have come forward and they have told the American
people the truth."

That's the key to the hearings.

The die-hard republicans coming forward with the real truth about Trump are insiders who voted for and supported Trump right up to January 6, 2021.   Then they realized what a monster he truly is, and enough is enough.  They could no longer support a man who turned out to be a fascistasshole.

Recently, Pence says he would consider testifying to committee and criticizes republicans who attack FBI over search at Trump home.

The House select committee investigating the January 6, 2021, US Capitol attack voted to subpoena former President Donald Trump for documents and testimony during a high-profile public hearing Thursday.

The unanimous vote marks a significant escalation by the panel that will set up a showdown with the former President. It is not expected that Trump will comply with the subpoena, but the action serves as a way for the committee to set down a marker and show that it wants information directly from Trump as the panel investigates the attack.
It also effectively removes any future argument that the committee does not allow the Trump team to voice their side of the story.

*Note:  after the trump-worshipping MAGA cult gain control of the House in November (such a flip occurs almost automatically in the first mid-term of every new president, which is why I am wagering heavily on that outcome!)  the cult and election deniers will move to immediately shut down this pursuit of justice in early January.

Why not?   Because even though the case against the traitor is incredibly strong, it just takes one lone MAGAfuckhead on the jury to save the traitor from justice.  That is very likely to happen so the DOJ won't risk making the traitor an even bigger martyr than he already claims.
