No matter your political leanings, I am interested in what folks think the Republicans should do now?
Should McCarthy make concessions? Would they turn out to be more or less ‘bribes’ for committee chairs, pet projects, etc.?
If somehow he is able to get elected, can he unite his party going forward?
Pelosi was able to do this after a slightly contentious nomination. I am not so sure McCarthy would be able to do that.
Then if they convince him to step aside and nominate someone else, would that still leave their party fractured?
No matter your thoughts on Trump, I think a clear case can be made that if you feel he ‘prevented’ or held back a ‘red wave’ then this should provide more ammunition for the folks that are saying he should not run.
Once again this points out what I keep saying and still believe to be true: the Democrats are way more willing and able to unite behind their guys/gals than the Republicans.

It can't be an election denier like Jeffries, he is a total threat to democracy.
If Kevin had a ounce of integrity, would step aside knowing he’s been a failure and Americans don’t want him… And no America First republicans should vote this establishment shill… He should not be speaker…
Is John Kasich available? His father was a mailman, ya know!
Its funny how the Commie dem party and media are embarrassed by actual debate and democracy... They always force compliance. Masks, anyone...? The Republicans are going through a process .. its good

Simply electing a speaker isn't supposed to be a struggle. Nothing good can come from hardline minority blocking McCarthy from becoming speaker. They should do the right thing by compromising. McCarthy has far more votes than any other republican. Besides, running-up Jordan doesn't want the difficult job and has voted for McCarthy. Government is only as competent as the team assembled. But in recent years, democrats demonstrate good government while republicans have been bad. Voters expecting MAGA republicans to fix problems are sure to be disappointed as they are more interested in political theatrics.

I think they may have actually thought McCarthy was some sort of 'compromise' himself. That is the funny part. The party leaders do not -- and have not -- have a good read on their own constituents. So, what they 'think' is a compromise is seen by a portion as 'forced action' on the rest.
It may be time to nominate another person besides these two -- as you point out Jordan does not want the job. Besides, if you try Jordan, you may get just the opposite -- where others 'refuse' to compromise on him, etc., etc.

@lovethedough Going through a process??? They went through a process prior to today & told the selfish prick they didn't want him. But this prima donna wants what's best for him & not the country. The GOP could fuckup a wet dream!
The other part to that is that it is no surprise to him -- he has known it all along. He thought he could carry enough votes and when it came down to it the rest would cave.
He was wrong. Time to step aside and support someone else the party can unite behind.

Sure, Pelosi had her issues getting the nomination. She had to flip 18 votes -- like 23 voted against her initially I think -- BUT she did it.
That is my point. She and the Democrat leaders knew she had to do this and they did it -- in the 5 weeks or so they had.
The Republicans and McCarthy also knew they needed to change some minds and had weeks to do it -- and did NOT do it. It actually got worse -- they thought only 4-5 would not for for him.
Nothing wrong with standing for your principles or whatever. But at some point you have to decide what is best for the party (and in your mind, the country) going forward.
I think McCarthy looks very weak now because he had weeks to change people's minds and did not do it.
Now the PARTY needs to decide to move away from him.
There is no way he could lead the party going forward.

There is one real special fucktard of the 20 who defecated on McCarty[s parade & it's Matt Gaetz.
Tonight, Gaetz sent a letter to J. Brett Blanton 12th Architect of the Capitol asking how long McCarthy can occupy the Speakers office before he's considered a squatter.
This is your GOP.
YOU CAN'T MAKE THIS STUFF UP!

That they sit back and actually bring a balanced. By 2030 goal accounting for GDP inflationary goals of 2% reducing government waste ,
Dealing with a comprehensive immigration drug awareness border security and justice and reform system providing opportunity for all Americans to thrive.
Promoting home ownership
good educational and college system providing training to jobs we directly need.
Developing the citizen based economic manufacturing and supply systems.
Focusing on investment strategies in high unemployment areas. Dealing with the ways and means of sustainable funding and hard assets, rail roads , roads and bridges, housing rural development, agricultural and high speed internet access within the USA.
Debating defensible and lasting energy grid system goals , and planning for the inevitable your ocean front property is going to surmerge south of new york due to climate change and sea level increases.
Can that house convene or is this another push the can till 2024 and hope you can get all the keys to power....

As I said it’s all about the Freedom Caucus and there war chest, Marjorie Greenes words this morning “
Do you know why I'm upset? Because Matt Gaetz, Lauren Boebert, and Scott Perry, the chairman of the Freedom Caucus, walked into Kevin McCarthy's office last night and made their own personal demands about what subcommittee chairmanships they want to have, and who they want on committees, and who they want taken off committees.
"And guess what? The chairman of the Freedom Caucus negotiated nothing for me," she said.

How about a comprehensive plan to making America great
stop the Batch wine victim syndrome and come up with a plan to that goal....
The sound bite was great because the majority of Americans are indeed fed up with the status quo....
So any thoughts here with the new house in order.... Or still bent on revenge and hurting America in some vain hope to weakening your opponents resolve.... Now as leader and n the house what policies and laws do you plan to negotiate with the Senate....
