My point, I guess, is if he is well-rounded and has expertise in other areas -- then maybe he really could be an adviser. But if they 'gave' him the job just to get 'favors' -- I have no problem with them proving it and taking action on that. But it is hard to blame the company form another country and hard to blame Hunter. Now if Joe was getting kickbacks for favors --then it would seem to be that he is the one to have a legal issue with. But it must not be overwhelming enough for the Republicans to get the Democrats onboard.
I have no problem with Hunter being given the job if he even remotely could do the job and they were satisfied with him and his advice.
I say this after having been more or less a theoretical consultant. This is more common that you would think and it can pay very, very well.
But if there are legal issues with a family member taking that job then that is what needs addressing. I do not know the details that much on this. So, I am not sure of what exactly they were expecting from him. But a lot of politicians for sure have questionable ties in the USA and abroad -- juts like the stock trading (almost insider trading) and kickbacks to their 'home' states and fellow businessmen.
But if their purpose is to get Joe by getting Hunter on this, it just seems lame and a huge waste of money to me. No better than the way the Democrats were pursuing Trump in this manner.
To be fair I have not looked into Hunter's background and have no idea what his experience is. All I ever hear is he has 'no experience in energy' -- and I do not care about that and do not think it matters as much as the pundits keep wanting to claim. Maybe because of his age, I just assumed he was educated and had some relatable work experience.
Maybe I am all wet on this. Maybe it is a key matter and needs dealing with. But starting with a gun charge looks bad to me.

I too believe the Burisma job was not illegal. A huge conflict on interest with Joe as VP overseeing relations with Ukraine. The prosecutor supposedly fired for not going after Burisma, HA! The next prosecutor drops all investigations into Burisma.
Calling China from daddy's house and demanding millions or daddy will get mad, then getting the millions. And for what service??? That's a huge FARA violation, where are the charges?

@Raiders22 From what I have seen he has been in and out of sobriety for a long long time and that to me is a wreck. He has been on and off drugs many times and seems out of control. I hope he finds his way forward but if you break parole what does he think will happen?
Yes, I understand they keep saying that. But by in and out does that mean very recently? I thought he went to rehab some time ago. If he is 'rehabed' and not relapsed how pertinent is that. The Republican just seem to get a kick out of bashing him.
I get the parole violation and agree -- BUT is this the way it would go for any other felon? This is not anywhere near the same as a violent felon that has a gun. I just think they are going all out on this for an exaggerated reason.
But I get your point about folks taking accountability for their actions and suffering the consequences.
Admittedly, I am not up to date on the exact time frame on his case. But aren't a lot of areas or states now even allowing non-violent felons to own guns after a time. So, this seems overkill.
Obviously, I am not a Joe Biden fan or Democratic supporter. It just seems there are way more important issues to deal with Biden and the Democrats about.
I wouldn't be surprised if some folks on the jury felt a tit-for-tat was warranted because of the Trump verdict.
I don't know -- it all seems weird to me the amount of news this is getting.

That is my point. This seems to be somewhat evident and provable. I know we have discussed that ad nauseum in the other thread. I am aware of the timeline issues, etc.
BUT if this is their contention -- then get at it, or drop it.

And Hunter also has another trial up next for tax evasion....this is another terrible blemish for our nation
It’s tough that Republicans were really counting on Hunter getting off at which point they could rant about the evils of a two-tiered system. As it is they are a bit confused messaging-wise! Making it worse Tax laws and Gun laws are probably the top two types of laws that Republicans most want to eliminate the prosecution of, So it will make things uncomfortable for them to recommend draconian penalties for there whipping boy Hunter!

Trump is not convicted yet, it has just been a guilty verdict by jury
Uniman is right on that statement
as far as the gun possession, he could just gift it to his wife if they have separate living spaces which I am sure is the case. But Florida does let felons possess a crossbow
go figure

Interesting view.
Whipping Boy didn't pay taxes on millions for years yet our DOJ let 2014 and 2015 tax evasions lapse through statue of limitations. It took IRS whistleblowers to bring this to light otherwise Whipping Boy gets off with a misdemeanor last summer for millions of unpaid taxes 2016-19. There are people serving years for only about $10,000 in unpaid taxes.
Poor Hunter, just a GOP whipping boy.

I do not recall the outrage when similar scenarios happened regarding Trump stonewalling and hiding details and facts that have importance. If you are going to be upset at abuses of the system then do it across the board not just when it suits a partisan position.
I dont like the Hunter scams, the Trump scams I dont like Alito and Thomas, I dont like people in positions of importance hiding shady acts behind legal technicalities and schemes.

And thus why I have been spewing over and over again that our politicians are horrible and we need to reset. It's so bad and petty right now but at the same time there are legit issues or problems.
Our political system is extremely flawed and corrupt and needs a major overhaul. This is what will cause citizens to revolt. It's coming.

No, they are not. They are not any worse than any other occupation. It is just that the ones that are bad get the 'publicity'. That generates more 'news' interest.
Maybe if they did more news stories on the 'good' ones it would help folks from being jaded on all politicians. But no one cares about those, because that is the expected behavior by all folks in all jobs.
Also, it does not need a 'major overhaul'. There is a method already in place -- the voting booth.
People simply need to be more educated at a younger age and raised to be more involved and concerned at a younger age.
Maybe it would help to have more parties, instead of two. Maybe it would help to have younger folks running for office and interested in politics.

Maybe there aren't enough good ones to talk about. My comment is based on the fact that these are elected officials by the people and they are corrupted and extremely flawed and are not working for the commen folk but rather for their own agendas and corporate big worst.
You are sayimg you are not agreeing with me yet you say maybe we need more parties....that would mean it's flawed and needs overhauling so not sure what you are actually disagreeing with. The political system is breaking down in epic proportions to the tune we have convicted felons now for an ex president and sitting presidents son as a felon and I would say we are not dine and many more may become felons before it's all said and done....shit is broken as all get up and these fools are been exposed now with more to come...no more hiding as the gloves are off and these recent events will allow for others to be exposed now and in the future...
Screw our politicians as they are horrible elected officials.

I am saying it is not inherently flawed and that most politicians are decent folks trying to do what they think is best for the country.
I am also saying that there can be improvements and more options.
I think both things are true.
People just become disillusioned because of the 'publicity' of the bad ones.
There are a lot of bad carpenters that will rip people off, not complete the job, or do a shoddy job. The only way someone knows is by personal experience or word-of-mouth.
Certainly, the 'bad' politicians affect far more people. But I would argue there are far more 'bad' people in other jobs because they do not have the scrutiny the politicians have.
I am saying people need to be more educated at a younger age on politics to have a keen interest. More sincere folks need to be encouraged to get into politics. More people need to realize they can 'force' term limits on these guys and 'compel' good behavior by voting them out.
I am simply saying that when people complain about politicians and say they are all bad and things need to be changed or fixed -- I think they are being overly pessimistic. I prefer to be optimistic and think it is the best system ever but can still be improved. But overall it is good and most politicians are decent.

Reading Too Much Political News Is Bad for Your Well-Being
Obsessing over politics could hurt your happiness and your relationships.
and this one:
Why are newspapers and TV broadcasts filled with disaster, corruption and incompetence? It may be because we’re drawn to depressing stories without realising, says psychologist Tom Stafford.
When you read the news, sometimes it can feel like the only things reported are terrible, depressing events. Why does the media concentrate on the bad things in life, rather than the good? And what might this depressing slant say about us, the audience?
It isn't that these are the only things that happen. Perhaps journalists are drawn to reporting bad news because sudden disaster is more compelling than slow improvements. Or it could be that newsgatherers believe that cynical reports of corrupt politicians or unfortunate events make for simpler stories. But another strong possibility is that we, the readers or viewers, have trained journalists to focus on these things. Many people often say that they would prefer good news: but is that actually true?

The number one thing folks expect from their politicians has been shown to be honesty, for example. But this is an article on the psychology that comes from the way the news is presented and the way we see politicians --especially the ones we disagree with:
People lie about lying. They think it’s always immoral and that therefore they wouldn’t, or at least shouldn’t, ever do it. They have unworkable standards for distinguishing between lies and white lies, or being tactful, as though there were some clear distinction. They make up unworkable moral rules like it’s OK to lie with silence, but not with false statements.
We accuse other people of lying as though lying was a rare crime. And we accuse politicians of lying, though mostly the politicians we don’t like.
Politicians are trying to gain and maintain intimacy with lots and lots of people all at once. I’d argue that they have to lie. They can’t say everything that’s on their minds. They can’t even say everything that’s factually true. Think of them as trying to maintain credibility and harmony with family members numbering in the millions.
What happens in their interactions with voters stays in their interactions with voters, sometimes for decades. Politicians better not lie and better lie. Both lying and not lying can get them in serious long-term trouble.
Among the lies politicians have to perpetuate is the lie that people just want the truth. We don’t. We want the lies that help, not the ones that harm, and we debate which are which.
Some people say “Hey, all politicians lie,” either as though lying is a particularly political crime, not as common among honest people like us. Or they say all politicians lie as though it’s no big deal, as though all lying is fine.
Often, they say “all politicians lie” to excuse their favorite politicians. It’s basically an accusation of hypocrisy leveled at opponents: “You’re a hypocrite for accusing my politician of lying, since your politician lies too.”

Its the same stuff, I know you are one of the most highly GOP protective posters here but even you cannot ignore the concept, the real concept of using legal schemes to shade to hide to disguise to influence outcomes. I dont know of any other person (maybe there are but I am unaware) who uses paid NDA schemes more than Trump, who hides actions and deflects more than Trump.
Biden, Trump, Pelosi, Clinton, Bush(s) all hide and have hidden aspects of their behavior and none should be excused. In fact I would highly suggest if someone runs for office they are not covered by legal NDA schemes, the standard to what we should hold politicians/officials should be the highest possible.

Is it a fact of importance that 18 years ago Trump supposedly had a liason with a porn star? He wasn't in politics then. And then when he decides to enter politics ten years later he gets basically extorted by this gal. Doesn't make him a role model that's for sure yet doesn't stop him from doing his job. And role model is way down on my list for Presidents. I want a job do-er.
Hunter's laptop was a big black eye for the Biden family but how it was handled was unbelievable. This computer repair guy sees this shit and tries to do the right thing and give it to the FBI. At first they refused it. Then when they finally took it they buried it away and do nothing. This scares the shit out of the computer repair guy so he gives a copy to Rudy. And as soon as the NYP reports it all of media denies it, Facebook and Twitter ban it, the FBI sits back and refuses to say they have it, and the Biden camp gets 51 former intel officials to say it has all the makings of Russian disinformation. HOLY SHIT!!
Imagine if that was Trump's son's laptop?
Nothing Trump has done or tried to hide even comes close to this. It's like the Nazi Party with full control of the media, federal law enforcement, and even regional court systems. You think I'm crazy about Trump? Fraid not. It's what my open eyes sees that frighten me. It's got to go.
And you can throw in Hillary using campaign funds to purchase a phoney story about Trump and Russia. Did I mention an improper FBI FISA warrant too?
