@thirdperson What if, just to fuck with the Rs, all the Democrats were to abruptly switch to voting for Liz Cheney? I believe there would be enough “cross-over” ?
@joe pockets
Great idea! Probably get between 10 - 30 votes from the CHAOS party (many who still respect her conservatism and never in favor of ousting her for telling the truth about the trump fascist regime) and the House would finally have a speaker. A rareresponsible republican in Congress who is not a dumbphuckn election denier, not a part of the clown circus MAGA movement, believes in democracy, is not afraid to hold truth to power, a rare republican who understands that trump is one of the absolute WORST - if not actually THE worst - US president of all time, and believes deeply in core conservative values, but at the same time has shown she is respected among many Dems and can work across the aisle.

Cheney is a excellent choice. Congress needs more moderates with the experience and wisdom for governing instead of anti-government extremists trying to burn things down. But House should restore old rules otherwise no speaker can last long. Now House speaker is the worst job in congress.

@thirdperson
AGREED! Excellent choice for the Dems since Hakeem Jeffries would be very unlikely to win 5 GOP votes.

Yes, the person who LOST their States' ONLY seat in the PRIMARY election is a great choice for this role. I mean, her entire constituency VOTED HER OUT.
Sounds like you guys are trying to award a participation medal to someone for being shitty at their job....
Say what you want about Pelosi but she ran her Speaker position with BALLS and an IRON FIST..... GOP could only wish to have someone that effective in place. Won't happen any time soon.

In tearful apology Jenna Ellis pleads GUILTY in Georgia case
Washington CNN —
Former Trump campaign lawyer Jenna Ellis pleaded guilty Tuesday in the Georgia election subversion case and will cooperate with Fulton County prosecutors – the third guilty plea in the past week.
“If I knew then what I knew now, I would have declined to represent Donald Trump in these post-election challenges. I look back on this experience with deep remorse,” Ellis said, her voice breaking at times.
The development comes after back-to-back guilty pleas last week in the sprawling case from former Trump campaign lawyer Sidney Powell and Kenneth Chesebro, who helped devise the fake electors plot.
These three plea deals are a monumental step forward for Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, who charged the case in August and is preparing for trials against Trump, his former attorney Rudy Giuliani, his chief of staff Mark Meadows and other top figures. (They have all pleaded not guilty.)

Ellis, Chesebro and Powell all agreed to testify on behalf of the prosecution at future trials.
By flipping, these onetime Trump insiders are now on track to become major Trump nemeses.
In a tearful apology in court, Ellis spoke of her personal “failures” and expressed “deep remorse” while disavowing her involvement in Trump’s legal efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

Ellis Implicating Giuliani
The plea from Ellis implicated Giuliani in a state crime – lying to Georgia legislators by peddling false voter-fraud theories. This comes one week after Chesebro implicated Giuliani in the fake electors scheme that tried to subvert the Electoral College process. Giuliani denies wrongdoing.

Democrats support Johnson's stopgap bill because it is simply an extension of existing spending. But any future bill from Johnson could be challenged. MAGA republicans are hellbent on more spending disputes risking shutdown chaos next year. In recent vote, 2 democrats and 93 republicans oppose Johnson's bill. In September, almost as many republicans oppose McCarthy's bill which lead to his ouster as speaker.

Yep, and that should be a big concern to a lot of people who "usually" receive federal government pay checks, like all our military. If t happens it will be caused by the republicans not the dems.

While Republicans generally support more defense spending, they are NOT the ones that want to spend it in Ukraine. So, just because the defense contractors (which employee many Democrats and have support in Democratic communities) are making money off of it — it does not necessarily follow that they are the ones pushing for this. In the $40B aid package that got approved, 57 Republicans voted against it while all the Democrats voted for it. In the latest proposal that did not pass, it is the Republicans that are holding it up. House Republicans who have previously supported Ukraine are in little rush to approve a fifth round of aid amid growing skepticism within their caucus. “I’m not necessarily opposed to supporting the Ukrainians further, but I am opposed to doing it at this point without some sort of explanation from the executive branch, Secretary of Defense [Lloyd Austin] telling us what we are doing with this money and where it’s going and what the end state is,” Rep. Mike Garcia, R-Calif., a defense appropriator, told reporters last week. “You can’t give a blank check to the executive branch.” Waltz called for conditions on Ukraine aid, without specifying what they should look like. “There must be policy space between Biden’s current strategy of ‘as long as it takes’ and those demanding “not another dollar,” Waltz wrote. So, this is not a case of follow the cash flow to see who is making money. If anything, it is a case of follow who is spending the money and that is the Democrats. This whole situation has been supported and pushed onto the USA citizens by the Democrats and the Biden Administration. There was no need to get involved in Ukraine and certainly no need to drive the country further in debt just to support this cause. But to bellyache when defense contractors are making money off of a policy driven, mainly, by Democrats is not logical at all. The USA has given more money to Ukraine than any other country because the Democrats have decided this is the just cause of the day to support. I think they have given more than the next 6 countries combined have given. The idiotic Republicans got on board with this bad plan in the beginning because they felt obligated to so that they would not look bad. Now that they are getting pushback from their constituents they are deciding to try to take a stand against continuing it. Other countries are seeing this as well, like Poland. This amount of money is now more than they spend on the Department of the Interior in a year and almost the amount they spend on the Department of Commerce. This was a boondoggle of a waste of money that could have been used to try to get the country out of debt, to help the folks at home that need help, etc. You cannot blame the Republicans for this except to say they should have stood their ground in the beginning. Do not blame the defense contractors for making money; blame the Democrats for spending the money for them.
