In a remarkable Tuesday night floor speech, Rep. Lamar Smith (R-Tex.), the chairman of the House Science, Space and Technology Committee, praised the physical and mental powers of President Trump and encouraged people to get “unvarnished” news directly from the president, not from the news media.
“Just think what the media would be saying about President Trump if he were a Democrat,” Smith said during the evening time reserved for one-minute speeches. “He has tremendous energy. He campaigned for 18 months, puts in 15-hour days, and has the stamina of a bull elephant, like Teddy Roosevelt. He is courageous and fearless. Given the amount of hate directed his way, no doubt he constantly receives death threats, but that doesn’t curtail his public appearances or seem to worry him in the least.”
Smith’s description of the president didn’t mirror anything in particular “the media” said about former president Barack Obama; they did echo a popular criticism of Hillary Clinton, who Trump insisted lacked the “stamina” to be president, and who since the election has been criticized by the left for largely spending August 2016 on low-profile fundraising events while Trump campaigned.
The rest of Smith’s speech included praise for how Trump involved his children in decisions — a subject of some controversy among progressive legal groups — and a laundry list of accomplishments he credited to the president, including a spike in the consumer confidence index.
“The national liberal media won’t print that, or air it, or post it,” Smith said. “Better to get your news directly from the president. In fact, it might be the only way to get the unvarnished truth.”
Trump carried Smith’s conservative Texas district by 10 points last year, but that margin shrunk from previous elections. In 2012, Mitt Romney carried Smith’s 21st Congressional District by 22 percentage points. As chairman of the science committee, Smith has vigorously used subpoena power to demand documents, email exchanges and testimony from scientists whom he has accused of efforts to deny companies “their First Amendment rights.”

I disagree. People are extremely stupid and most of the public isn't even literate enough to comprehend the information during an election properly. That's why democracy will always fail because the public will never be informed enough to vote. Look at how many of these conspiracy freaks spend their lives paranoid over things that aren't close to being true. I expect Trump to actually win again unless his administration manages to get America attacked by terrorists or the economy tanks. He'll just say anything and people will believe whatever he tells them.

Obviously I disagree. Dems have 2-3 years to come up with a candidate that isn't as bad as HRC. People didn't really want to vote for Trump, they just didn't want to vote for her.
As much as the lemmings in this forum try to point out that Trump won X amount of counties and blah, blah, blah. It's meaningless. Trump was barely able to win a few swing states that mattered by a few percentage points.
Swing a couple of those percentage points, in a few swing states, the other way and he's not getting a second term.
Go ahead and build a wall and alienate more people that might get out and vote next time. Or vote in a different direction when they're tired of him expanding our budget deficit over something meaningless.
If the Dems can throw a half way decent candidate out there, they're taking back the White House.

Well, I'm a fan of Tulsi Gabbard. She's someone who could actually have a shot at gaining my vote. I don't really think a lot of the other Democrats are that great. I like Sherrod Brown, too, but I don't know if he'd run for president. Other than that, I'd have to see the contenders and hear them debate.
I'm technically open to a Republican but not in this case since Trump will be running again. The only way Trump could get my vote is to have a successful presidency that results in higher wages (even though he specifically cited during one of the debates that Americans' wages are too high) and creates a fair number of permanent jobs, not temporary ones.
I'll hold my breath because I'm pretty certain he can't bully countries into accepting his terms. Typically, that worked for him to threaten contractors into settle for a 1/3 of 1/2 of what was agreed upon instead of going to court. Elected officials are there to make their countries improve financially and aren't going to agree to terms that aren't beneficial. Imposing tariffs will likely cause these countries to find other trading partners.
