Virtually, all of the EU, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Central and South America and Far East Asia countries have universal health care systems. Call all of these nations socialism, beat it. Some of these nations have installed the universal health care as early as 1948, whatever one will call UK a socialism nation, so be it. Universal health care is here to stay, globally.
Some of these countries may not be socialist countries ,however single payer healthcare is a socialist system and doomed to fail..
The Canadian healthcare system has been slowly but surely collapsing
of its own weight for years ,as all socialist systems eventually do ....from doctor shortages and hospital overcrowding to the cost of medication that ten % of Canadians can not afford.
Approximately 80,000 visits to US health care facilities occur each year by Canadians...
Now don't get me wrong the Canadian system is good ...unless you are old, sick or need a specialist..and if you do ,,you just have to wait...and wait...or go to the Good Ol' U.S.A.

On the whole, the Canadian system is both cheaper and more effective. Medical outcomes are consistently higher in Canada than in the US, except for cancer care, where the US tends to be among the best in the world.

Myth is that Canada has a socialist healthcare system. Most doctors aren't employed by government. They run their own private practices with the government as sole insurer of services. Administrative costs are lower from not dealing with many insurance companies.
Myth is that many Canadians travel to the US for medical care. Actually, under 1% of Canadians according to Center for health policy. 80% of these visits are for emergency care and not elective care. Far more Americans visit Canada to buy drugs.
Myth is that Canada's healthcare system has long wait times. Actually, majority of patients receive timely healthcare especially in cities. Wait times may be longer in small towns or remote locations. US has waiting lists too. Doctors assign high priority to sickest patients and low priority to elective treatment. Wisely choosing to control costs, Canada rations healthcare by making people wait. Whereas the US rations healthcare by cost resulting in 40% of Americans going without healthcare.
Myth is that Canada's healthcare system is in bad financial shape. For decades, single payer systems continue to survive worldwide. A smaller percentage of GDP is spend while delivering quality healthcare with universal coverage. Small medical problems tend to be treated earlier before they become big problems. Most Canadians are proud of their healthcare system which they prefer over the US one by a rate of 10 to 1. US has the most unaffordable system in the world with millions of Americans uninsured and dissatisfied.

So Ian Mulgrew a columnist from a right leaning newspaper carries weight?
A factual search reveals the Vancouver Sun has never failed a fact check.
Overall, we rate the Vancouver Sun Right-Center biased based on
editorial positions that lean right and High for factual reporting due
to proper sourcing and a clean fact check record. (7/28/2016) Updated

How do you fact check an opinion?

Perhaps some Canadians can chip in here on Canadian health care system, but at least Canada practically got almost everyone insured. Right here in the States before the Affordable Care Act, millions of Americans did not have any thing from health care and these uninsured people could only pray for not getting ill, or they will have to pay dearly or filing bankruptcy for humongous medical bill.
Just about few weeks ago, a friend of mine who was healthy but somehow contracted Legionnaires’ disease. He went to ER three times, that illness cost him over $250,000. Luckily, he's got insurance or either way he has to pay that damn bill from his pocket or WE have to pay for him if he is NOT insured and could not afford to pay that $250,000+ damn bill.

A bill such as the one you mention above would bankrupt many Americans. Things quickly get worse from there & in most cases add to the homeless issue in the country.

In Canada, no citizen becomes bankrupt because of medical bills. Unlike the US where medical bills cause half of personal bankruptcies. US healthcare system is the worst in access, equity and efficiency among rich nations according to Commonwealth fund.
Trump has weaken US healthcare system. Breaking promises, his budgets cut funding for medicare, medicaid and obamacare. By sabotaging obamacare, millions of Americans could lose insurance according to Congress budget office. He refuses to defend protection for preexisting medical conditions in lawsuits seeking to overturn obamacare. He has contributed to a rise in insurance premiums by reducing subsidies for insurers.
By removing individual mandate, premiums could increase because fewer healthy people would subsidize the sick. That would worsen healthcare inequality. People without insurance use expensive emergency care at hospitals as a substitute for primary care at doctor office. That increases costs for everyone. National healthcare costs could rise at a faster rate than under obamacare.
Trump isn't doing much to lower drug prices or protect medicare long term according to Center for medicare and medicaid services. Kaiser family foundations warns that pricing provision in his medicare reform may increase costs to an unsustainable level since private insurers pay higher prices. He is making medicare more expensive by providing a windfall for hospitals according to Brookiings Schaffer initiative for health policy.

Furthermore, Trump has expanded sale of junk insurance which offers lower premiums at the expense of subpar care that don't pay medical bills. He has implemented work requirements for medicaid which left thousands of Americans uninsured.

Cowards in Congress are terrified of Trump's Twitter tantrums. You can see how Trump reacts when even mildly criticized by someone like Flip Flop Mitt.
This weekend Gym Jordan looked like a fool but Ron Johnson was even worse trying to defend Trump. They just want to survive & passing off Trump's behavior as him "joking" is a ridiculous excuse no one believes. Another phony is my Senator Marco No Show Rubio who thinks Trump is only teasing the media. Is he teasing our allies as well?
Trump believes being President allows him to do whatever he wants. So far the Cowards of Congress are allowing that to happen.
