President Biden and U.S. allies have agreed to a release of 60 million barrels from their reserves, the White House and International Energy Agency announced Tuesday, as leaders seek to dampen the effect of Russia's invasion of Ukraine on gas prices at home.
Half of that total -- 30 million barrels -- will come from the US Strategic Petroleum Reserve, and the other half will come from allies in Europe and Asia.
The International Energy Agency announced Tuesday that member countries have agreed to the release from emergency reserves to send a "strong message to global oil markets that there will be no shortfall" as a result of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Joe needs to frame the discussion leading into the midterm elections. Do you want a democracy or not? Do we really want to ban books & make it tougher for people to vote?
Following the rules doesn't seem to work for many Americans anymore. Former students are strangled by debt & struggling to make ends meet. Governmental aid is not the answer for most. We need corporate involvement to pay BETTER than a living wage. Most of us receive dividends on our investments & many of us could afford to discontinue these funds for a period of time if we get corporation cooperation. This isn't some "pie in the sky" liberal thinking; it's an idea to help those in need. Seriously, how much money do we really need? Millionaires in here really don't have an excuse not to help others.

I literally agree with every word you wrote.
I wish, and I know you do, that good ideas would solve many (not all) of our problems.
But I am disheartened by two beliefs, which may actually be facts:
1/ right now, my fellow vet friend, we both know that at least 33% of the American adult public have ALREADY MADE UP THEIR MINDS about Biden's SOTU before he even utters a word - and in THEIR minds it's all negative and critical and Biden is the worse president of all time and trump was/is waaaaaaaaay better in every way.
2/ I've said this before numerous times and I'll say once again -- a split congress is the main problem to achieving anything productive (ie. one party controls the House while the other controls the Senate) And the stupid filabuster rule would still allow a minority party to have full veto power over any legislation even IF one party controls both chambers -- which is the case right now. At least if one party has both chambers it's possible to pass ONE bill per year using that budget concilliation rule - but that only applies to budget.
But what makes point #2 the clincher is the political climate we have today - automatic opposition to everything the other side proposes, even to the point of blocking it from going to the floor just for "debate"
It was NEVER - repeat **NEVER** - this polarized prior to 2017. [Gee, I wonder what happened to change it for the worse] Prior to 2017 there were many times when members from the opposing party would vote for a measure inspite of the party position. They saw their mandate was being there to GOVERN for the betterment of America. That is exceptionally rare now in all but vital issues like budget ceiling or defense funding. This polarization is not as pronounced at MOST states levels but it certainly is in many, as we have witnessed the "BIG LIE" circus the past year.
