The unemployment rate fell back to a record low
of just 3.5%   (following a revised 3.6% in November)

Down to 3.5% again! 

Weekly jobless claims fall to lowest level since September

Minneapolis CNN — 

Around 204,000 people applied for first-time unemployment benefits last week, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

That’s down from the previous week’s total jobless claims and only slightly below the pre-pandemic weekly average of 218,000.

Continuing claims, which are filed by people who have received unemployment benefits for more than one week, decreased to 1.69 million for the week ended December 24, from 1.72 million.

Thursday’s data indicates continued resilience in the labor market

Good news!  

The Biden admin has managed to keep US unemployment to around 3.5%-3.7% since last March!  No president in history has come anywhere even close to that sustained level of very low unemployment!

It's been sub-4% unemployment every month in over a year!

Encouraging inflation news:
Online prices keep dropping!

In a positive sign for inflation-weary consumers,
online prices dropped in December, according to a
Tuesday report from Adobe Analytics.

Adobe said e-commerce prices were 1.6% lower
than the year before, marking the 4th consecutive
month of annual price declines.

Vivek Pandya, lead analyst at Adobe Digital Insights,
told CNN the return of falling prices is a big positive
for consumers:

“When online prices began dropping over the summer,
our thinking was that one month could be a fluke, but
two months could be a trend,” Pandya said. “Now that
we’re in a fourth consecutive month of online deflation,
with price increases cooling even in non-promotional
categories, it is an encouraging sign for consumers
worried about high inflation.”

The report comes as government statistics show
inflation continues to cool off.

CNN — 

An American Navy veteran who has been detained in Russia
for nearly a year was released from Russian custody on Thursday,
his family’s spokesperson told CNN, after months of negotiations
spearheaded by former New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson (D)

No exchange was made on the US side for Dudley.

The Steve Menzies Global Foundation and the US Embassy under
President Biden also helped to secure Dudley’s release.

Kinzinger served six terms in the U.S. House, representing an Illinois congressional district as a republican. In addition to the January 6th Committee, he served on the House Energy and Commerce and Foreign Affairs committees.

Kinzinger served in the Air Force in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Recently, Labor department reports that jobless claims fell to lowest level in 4 months.  Also Bloomberg reveals that US mortgage rates have dropped to lowest level since September 2022.

Wholesale price hikes slowed significantly in December as inflation eases

Wholesale price growth cooled off significantly in December,
the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported.

The Producer Price Index, a key inflation metric that measures
prices paid for goods and services by businesses before they
reach consumers, rose just 6.2% in December compared to a
year earlier.
That’s way down from the revised 7.3% gain reported for November.

The latest reading was much better than Wall Street’s expectations.
Economists surveyed by Refinitiv had forecast a 6.8% annual increase.

IMF: Global economy showing signs of 'resilience' and inflation is peaking

The global economy is showing signs of resilience, even as growth slows slightly in 2023, according to the Managing Director of the IMF.

 Kristalina Georgieva said, “We said that 2023 would be difficult but what we are saying now is that it will not be as bad as feared.”

On inflation, she explained “we have seen the peak in headline inflation … indicators are that inflation is trending downwards and that is a reason to celebrate”.

Walmart, America’s largest private employer, said Tuesday that it will raise its minimum wage from $12 to $14 an hour as it tries to retain store and warehouse workers in a tight labor market for lower-wage industries.

Renters bill of rights aim to protect tenants, make rentals more affordable and promote fairness in rental housing market.  Multiple government agencies help tenants such as Federal trade commission, Consumer financial protection bureau, Federal housing agency, department of urban development and department of justice.  Over a third of US population rent their homes.

President Biden okays strike on ISIS leader Bilal al-Sudani in Somalia

"This action leaves the United States and its partners
safer and more secure, and it reflects our steadfast
commitment to protecting Americans from the threat
of terrorism at home and abroad,"
Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said in a statement.

About 10 of al-Sudani's ISIS operatives also were killed in the assault, which was authorized by President Biden

There were no casualties among American service members
or civilians, the officials said.

Wednesday's strike is the third by U.S. forces in Somalia since Jan. 20

I don't imagine that outside of the Democrats anyone else is giving President Biden and his team credit for a job well done on this.
