Disney's Bob Iger is swinging the ax as he plans to lay off 7,000 workers worldwide

The Walt Disney Co. announced plans Wednesday to cut about 4% of its entire workforce. That means layoffs for 7,000 employees.

Returning CEO, Bob Iger, is making a statement to his board about the company's finances moving forward.

His goal is to cut more than $5 billion in costs in part by consolidating divisions that make and distribute movies and TV shows.

Buy now, pay later company, Affirm, announced it's cutting 19% of its workforce after it reported wider-than-expected losses last quarter.

Google's parent company Alphabet recently laid off 12,000 workers, equivalent to 12% of its workforce. 

 Zuckerberg blamed overly aggressive hiring practices and worsening economic conditions as Meta slashed more than 11,000 jobs, or about 13% of its overall workforce.

Amazon’s 18,000-plus job cuts announced this month are being felt broadly across the company’s sprawling operations, from physical retail technology and grocery stores to robotics and drone delivery, and even in cloud computing.

On Tuesday, software company Zoom announced it would cut about 15% of its workforce.

PayPal announced on January 31 that it plans to cut 2,000 workers or approximately 7% of the company's total workforce over the coming weeks. 

Hasbro reportedly plans to cut 1,000 workers after warning that the 2022 holiday season was weaker than expected, according to the toy and game company. 

On February 6, Dell said in a regulatory filing that it would be eliminating about 5% of its workforce. The percentage amounts to approximately 6,650 roles based on numbers that Dell provided Insider. 

FedEx informed staffers on February 1 it plans to slash more than 10% of managers in an effort to reduce costs.

Biden called the latest jobs numbers a
“positive sign for the health of the economy going forward,”
highlighting declines in the cost of goods and gas!

"Our economy created 517,000 jobs last month,” Biden stated.
“In addition, there were half a million more jobs created last
 year than we thought! … add that all up, it means we’ve added
 more than … 12 million jobs since I took office!"

Good to see more Americans have jobs, which in turns creating more financial security to the families. 

AGREED!    More jobs, means increasing circulation of money within communities....always a net positive. And greater tax revenues for the states and fed treasury needed to fund various programs including but not limited to our schools, infrastructure, and our military.

Fubah2, based on last few days of my observation from Biden's addressing in State of Union, union rally at Wisconsin of yesterday, and today's touting on the subject of protecting Social Security and Medicare for the seniors at Tampa Bay, may be it's safe to say that Pres. Biden is going to run for the second term.

The University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts will remove an exhibit dedicated to John Wayne as the late actor’s past bigoted remarks have come under increased scrutiny.

“Conversations about systemic racism in our cultural institutions along with the recent global, civil uprising by the Black Lives Matter Movement require that we consider the role our School can play as a change maker in promoting antiracist cultural values and experiences,” Assistant Dean of Diversity and Inclusion Evan Hughes said in a Friday announcement to the film school community.

“Therefore, it has been decided that the Wayne Exhibit will be removed.”

I am offended by the picture of this racist. It should be removed from the Hallowed pages of Covers. Where is Thirdperson to discuss hypocrisy?

John Wayne was not only a disgusting racist, he was also a big homophobe.  The racist remarks are far worse though....

I personally favor good news, but it is rather odd that probably 1/3 of voters are actually cheering for bad news over the next two years.  This is what America has come to since January 2017.

Wholesale prices surge again, PPI shows, in sign U.S. inflation is unlikely to ease quickly

The numbers: U.S. wholesale prices jumped 0.7% in January to mark the biggest gain since last summer, offering further proof that inflation is sticky and unlikely to decline rapidly.

Economists polled by The Wall Street Journal had forecast a 0.4% increase.

The stronger-than-expected reading — the biggest since last June — dented U.S. stock trades and sent yields on the 10-year Treasury note higher.

The increase in wholesale prices over the past 12 months, meanwhile, slowed to 6% from 6.5% in the prior month. That’s still three times higher than the Fed’s target for overall inflation, however.

A separate measure of wholesale prices that strips out volatile food and energy costs climbed a sharp 0.6% last month, the government said Wednesday. That was the largest increase in 10 months.

The increase in these so-called core prices over the past year eased to 4.5% from was 4.7%.

The PPI report captures what companies pay for supplies such as fuel, metals, lumber, packaging and so forth. These costs are often passed on to customers at the retail level and give an idea of whether inflation is rising or falling.

Big picture: U.S. inflation has ebbed after reaching a 40-year peak last summer. Yet as the consumer price index showed earlier this week, it’s still stubbornly high and unlikely to subside quickly.

Persistent inflation has forced the Federal Reserve to jack up interest rates to try bring prices under control, but the strategy also raises the risk of a recession in 2023. Higher borrowing costs depress consumer and business spending.

Looking ahead: “Both inflation readings this week point to the stickiness of inflation and that the fight isn’t over,” said Mike Loewengart, head of model portfolio construction Morgan Stanley Global Investment.
