Biden says feds will cover 100% of the cost to clean up from Kentucky tornado damage for the first 30 days of recovery
(CNN) President Joe Biden traveled to Kentucky on Wednesday in the wake of deadly tornadoes and severe storms that devastated the area, announcing that the federal government would cover 100% of costs of emergency work for the first 30 days after the extreme weather event.
Late Monday, Biden approved disaster declarations for Tennessee and Illinois, and had previously approved a major disaster declaration for Kentucky. On Wednesday, Biden amended the Kentucky disaster declaration to make additional assistance available, increasing federal funding.

Biden administration announces plan for distribution of millions of free home covid tests for Americans who request them online. Among new initiatives is a plan to deploy 1000 military medical personnel to help hospitals across the US. Also improved vaccine access and addressing of FEMA efforts to increase hospitals capacity.

So our gov't bought these cheap, useless at home covid tests that do not work. Our tax dollars going to good use.

They work. Not well. And they rely on each individuals proper use to even work moderately well. Still pretty bad but better than nothing. The future of this virus isn't a million booster shots. Sure, there will be yearly boosters for some, much like the flu, but how many of us get yearly flu shots? I haven't had one since childhood, 30+ years ago. Haven't had the flu in that time either. Over 30 years without the flu. Colds, yes. Mono in high school. No flu. Neither here nor there. Detection is the key. People finding out they are sick, preferably early on, and keeping there ass at home. The home test, crappy as they may be, are an important tool in this because in cases when a person is actually sick or on the verge of being sick, and when used properly, the cheesy home tests can actually work.

Well, from my experience the test was a complete dud and I used both that came in the box. I felt sick, was informed a co worker had covid, figured I had it, got the at home test, both came up neg, went to my hospital and got the test (already knew I had it) and came back positive. That's just my experience but feel I'm not the only one.

No, you're not alone. They are pretty crappy and often used incorrectly. You seem like the type a dude that can follow instructions so I don't think that's the case in your experience but they aren't the best in general. I however am in an industry where I have been on sites where I might be there 5 days and test every day. I've seen tons of these tests taken, multiple brands, and I have seen them catch covid several times. How long ago did you have it? These tests are horrible at catching Delta but nasal swab pcr tests aren't necessarily great at it either. That's why people crack me up when talking about inflated numbers due to fake pcr tests. They're more likely to throw out a false negative than a false positive.

It was about 3-4 months ago. I stuck that stick pretty damn far up too and read directions twice to ensure it was done correctly.
Are our labs even testing for delta/omnicron? I was pretty sus when I saw a report yesterday that 70+% of new tests were the omnicron but I don't believe the tests actually try to detect what "strain" it might actually be. I have my own thoughts on why the media is suddenly trying to scare everyone. Have you tuned into any left leaning stations recently? All saying the same fear mongering. IMO you shouldn't need to scare people in order to get them to get he vax. Just tell people the truth.

Naw, I haven't. I keep clear of most media but yeah, the fear mongering is in full force. I just got back in town and could see that from what little of the news I watched yesterday. Supposedly omicron spreads more easily than Delta but tends to produce mild symptoms, right? So why is everyone losing their minds? My guess is it's all to distract from Brandon.

Biden boosts fuel-economy standards to help fight climate change
AP In a major step to fight climate change, the Biden administration is raising vehicle mileage standards to significantly reduce emissions of planet-warming greenhouse gases, reversing a Trump-era rollback that loosened fuel-efficiency standards.
A final rule issued Monday would raise mileage standards starting in the 2023 model year, reaching a projected industrywide target of 40 miles a gallon by 2026. The new standard is 25% higher than a rule finalized by the Trump administration last year and 5% higher than a proposal by the EPA in August.
“We are setting robust and rigorous standards that will aggressively reduce the pollution that is harming people and our planet – and save families money at the same time,” President Biden said Monday

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said the House of Representatives will observe the one-year anniversary of the Jan. 6 insurrection that took place at the Capitol with several events, including a vigil and reflections of the day from members of Congress.
In a Monday letter to the Democratic Caucus, Pelosi said there will be no House sessions during the first week of January, but members can participate in Jan. 6 commemorations.

Yes, we can hope at least.
But personally I think the world - particularly the US - will feel a lot of pain before positive solutions are fully underway to a very significant degree. It will continue to disintegrate every year. In about 20-30 years - round about the time you and I depart for Heaven - viruses, the border, inflation, gun violence, white nationalism, Russia/China, and even eroded democracy, may very well be the *LEAST* of our worries.

I don't share your pessimistic outlook, but I will acknowledge we have some very serious problems. I don't know how we will get out of the mess we have created for the planet but I gotta believe we will find a workable solution just in the nick of time.

Trump touts effectiveness of Covid-19 vaccine encouraged by Dr.Fauci
(CNN) Former President Donald Trump pushed back on a questioner's skepticism about the effectiveness and safety of the Covid-19 vaccine in a new interview, saying that the "vaccine works" and "people aren't dying when they take the vaccine."
"Look, the results of the vaccine are very good, and if you do get (Covid), it's a very minor form. People aren't dying when they take the vaccine," trump said in an interview with The Daily Wire's Candace Owens.
When Owens began raising doubt about the vaccine efficacy, Trump interjected, saying, "Well, no, the vaccine works." "The ones that get very sick and go to the hospital are the ones that don't take the vaccine.

Remember when health experts wrote a letter to CEO of Pfizer on Sept 25, 2020 asking him to delay the vaccine until late November?
"Six days after receiving a letter from 65 top national health authorities, Pfizer Chairman and CEO Albert Bouria yesterday backed off earlier predictions that a COVID-19 vaccine would be ready for FDA emergency approval by October."
How many lives were lost because Democrats needed to ruin Trump’s ‘October surprise’?

Biden signs historic bill punishing China for Uyghur genocide
AXIOS - President Biden signed a bill banning imports from China's Xinjiang region and punishing the Chinese government for its genocide of Uyghurs and other ethnic minorities, per a White House release.
Why it matters: Human rights activists say the bill will impose the first substantive costs the Chinese government has ever faced for its atrocities in Xinjiang. This could set a precedent for other countries to follow suit, writes Axios' Zachary Basu.
