PART 8
COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS:
Lots to consider. More to follow.
First, it is just logical reasoning that if we regulate and make gun ownership much more expensive, gun ownership should drop precipitously, which is the goal. It has been proven all over the world, and this is entirely logical, where there are fewer guns, there is less gun related crimes. And when the costs are made high, then it becomes extremely unlikely that an 18 year old can make Buffalo or Uvalde happen again. Or anyone else for that matter.
Higher costs means less guns, and less gun violence.
Reminder, the goal here is to REDUCE both frequency and magnitude of gun related violence, while it is fully understood that this will not eliminate gun violence altogether.
I haven't worked it all out yet, but these are a few that come to mind:
1. Lives saved! This should be an obvious result of fewer guns, given the statistical data that proves it. It is #1 priority regardless cost!!
2. Increased revenues to our government, state and federal, which can be used for mental health programs, drug treatment programs, etc
3. Increased revenues for private sector insurance businesses!
4. Increased private sector employment nationwide among insurance companies needing to cover the additional "gun insurance" loads!
5. Reduced taxpayer costs, hospitalizations, PTSD counselling, etc, resulting in taxpayer savings.
6. Reduced policing/security costs for schools and some other businesses.
7. Vastly reduced community stress & anxiety, resulting in improved happiness and productivity. This one is very difficult to quantify but it is logical.
8. ??
9. ??
10. ??
A few good ideas in there for sure. Dr.Strangelove added some good ideas too, and people don't realize how this would generate revenues and jobs!

BULLET TAXES: (this great idea came courtesy Dr.Strangelove)
Every bullet sold in America will be levied a "bullet tax" of $1 over and above the point of sale bullet cost.
(no tax on bullets bought and used only when shooting at govt certified target ranges, and no bullet tax to police forces, security, or active military)
All spent shell casings or unused bullets must be left at target range front desk before exiting the facility.
All bullet purchases will require a valid "gun owner license" card and your gun owner license # will be seen on the receipt.
All gun, mag, and bullet purchases are immediately sent to a national database!
When the total # of bullets purchased outside of a licensed target shooting range, hits over 15, local police are alerted and you will be contacted for explanation.
You may purchase bullets without bullet taxes provided spent shell casings are turned over at the point of sale. One bullet allowed per spent casing without tax.
I would love to see such a "bullet tax" implimented.....with exceptions noted.

obvious doing nothiing accomplishes nothing to reduce these horrible events
the case i see being made here is making efforts to reduce the violence i am fairly certain we all understand nothing will totally eliminate all violence
but every effort should b made to reduce it

In a gun-related gaffe Biden claimed that 9mm guns are "high caliber weapons" that can blow a person's lung out of their body.
Recalling a visit to a New York trauma hospital, Biden said doctors showed him X-rays of gunshot wounds, and "They said a .22-caliber bullet will lodge in the lung, and we can probably get it out — may be able to get it and save the life. A 9mm bullet blows the lung out of the body," Biden said. "So, the idea of these high-caliber weapons is, uh, there’s simply no rational basis for it in terms of self-protection, hunting," Biden added. "Remember, the constitution was never absolute."
Robby Starbuck, a congressional candidate shared Biden's video and wrote, "A 9MM bullet blows the lung out of the body" has to be one of the dumbest things I’ve ever heard. Joe Biden is an imbecile. Why do the people who know the least about guns want to yap their gums the most about guns? What part of "Shall NOT be infringed" do they not get?"

I had not given any thought that such a plan would actually increase employment but it's logical this would occur in both private and public sectors.

Republican bonehead, Ron Johnson
Literally Blames Uvalde Shooting

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) not only said this week that he opposes any new gun laws to address mass shootings, but he also blamed critical race theory for the horrific Uvalde school massacre that left 19 young children dead.

“The mainstream media is Domestic Terrorists.”
That’s a tweet the Republican Party of Arizona posted
Tuesday afternoon. It was later deleted, but not before
the account doubled down in another tweet (also deleted).
It’s absurd and meant to fire up a base that lives for this
kind of nonsense. But let’s be clear here, there is never
a good time to say something this stupid.
Right now is an incredibly bad time.
The country is still reeling from the murders
of 19 school children and two teachers in Uvalde, Texas.

People can laugh and jeer about the likelyhood of all these proposals ever making serious headway, but under analysis making it all more expensive and inconvenient has strong merit and they could work and solve a huge portion of the problems.
But alas no political will.

Banning sale of "body armour" to citizens without government approval (normally only for police, military, security, and first responders) is another that should be added.
Midnight1 brought that one up and it's a good point.

House member plans to introduce a bill that would hit AR-15s with a 1,000% tax
INSIDER -
Rep. Don Beyer of Virginia, a member of the tax-writing House Ways and Means Committee, wants to impose a 1,000% excise tax on such semiautomatic rifles.
"What it's intended to do is provide another creative pathway
to actually make some sensible gun control happen,"
Beyer told Insider.
New AR-15-style guns cost anywhere from $500 to over $2,000 depending on location, NBC News reported. That means a 1,000% tax on the weapons would add $5,000 to $20,000 to their final sales prices — and would probably keep them out of reach from many younger Americans.

Sadly, second amendment has been so misinterpreted that some people believe gun violence is part of freedom. But many countries with stricter gun control have more freedom than the US. Polls also show misguided people believe Trump's claim about stolen election despite lack of evidences. They rather believe conspiracy theories instead of the truth.

Please, tell us more about this...
Where are people trying to move to get more freedom then they may have in the US?

I’m more interested in how the second amendment has been ‘so misinterpreted’. I also didn’t realize there was a big ‘conspiracy’ to get people to accept gun violence is part of freedom. Unless this is a Democrat-led conspiracy, so they do not have to punish the folks that commit crimes — especially, gun crimes.
Just for good measure, mention Trump somehow to ‘emphasize’ your point some way? No clue what those two thoughts have to do with each other. Wow. Could have at least picked two somewhat related conspiracy theories. Because for sure Republicans do not believe this ‘theory’ of having to accept gun violence.
A better theory would have been that the Left has been led to believe it is okay to keep criminals on the streets to commit gun violence and then more gun violence.
Or the ‘theory’ that the Left actually believes making it harder for law-abiding citizens to have guns — will somehow deter the real criminals with guns?
Now those I could see related, maybe.
Yeah. I’m thinking that is one of the least informed paragraphs I have ever read.

It appears making it much more expensive could be gaining some traction.
As it should, if we are serious about *reducing* gun violence
