@Raiders22
He's the one who talked about moving. It sounded like an excellent idea to me.
House member plans to introduce a bill that would hit AR-15s with a 1,000% tax
INSIDER -
Rep. Don Beyer of Virginia, a member of the tax-writing House Ways and Means Committee, wants to impose a 1,000% excise tax on such semiautomatic rifles.
"What it's intended to do is provide another creative pathway
to actually make some sensible gun control happen,"
Beyer told Insider.
New AR-15-style guns cost anywhere from $500 to over $2,000 depending on location, NBC News reported. That means a 1,000% tax on the weapons would add $5,000 to $20,000 to their final sales prices — and would probably keep them out of reach from many younger Americans.
excellent idea !!

I am pretty sure you got his point, I hope? People are going to the USA for freedom. They may have talked about leaving because they were upset Trump lost. So? Some from the Left threatened to move when Trump won the time before.
That, obviously, is not the same. One set of folks are pouting because things didn’t go their way. A whole other set of folks are risking life and limb to escape from places without freedom to come to the USA for freedom.
Way different.

For years, car deaths have been declining because of research, safety improvements and regulations. Now gun deaths exceed car deaths. Center for disease control calls universal licensing and registration of cars one of US greatest achievements in public health of the 20th century. Similar approach that reduces car deaths should be applied to guns. To do nothing is to endorse an intolerable status quo.

For years a blind eye has been turned on repeat offenders until they get even worse than petty crime and start gun violence. For years we have gotten slacker on punishment measures. In effect, we have been rewarding bad behavior. It is a shame we cannot have the same attitude about crime and crime prevention (and by extension, gun crime) that we had about car deaths. Even those improvements are under fire now with cell phones in the car nowadays.
Always good to continue to compare two things that really are not related at all. It is not like people were intentionally going out and committing crimes with cars and intentionally killing people with cars. Hard to understand how folks even come up with their logic sometimes.

misinformation. Again. third doing what third does.
NHTSA projects that an estimated 42,915 people died in motor vehicle traffic crashes last year, a 10.5% increase from the 38,824 fatalities in 2020. The projection is the highest number of fatalities since 2005 and the largest annual percentage increase in the Fatality Analysis Reporting System’s history. Behind each of these numbers is a life tragically lost, and a family left behind. https://www.nhtsa.gov/press-releases/early-estimate-2021-traffic-fatalities
The number of gun deaths, excluding suicides, so far in 2021.
The total includes murders, accidents, and homicides that were ruled justifiable. It’s a slight increase over the total in 2020 and a continuation of the trend of rising gun deaths that accelerated during the pandemic. https://www.thetrace.org/2021/12/gun-violence-data-stats-2021/
There are estimated to be over 400 million guns in the US.
There are estimates to be over 286 million cars in the US.
So statically there are more car deaths per car, then guns. Statically, you are more likey to be injured in a car wreck (usually the fault of someone else), then by gun in the US.
Gun deaths are on the rise since the covid lock downs. Maybe locking people inside, taking away their freedoms, making people lose their jobs, inflation, and division has caused people to become angry at each other as violence around the US is skyrocketing at unprecedented rates. Thanks dems for the lock downs. This is their world and you're just living in it. Keep voting this way, keep the violence going this way.
try again third.

I agree, and that appears to be one of the main points of Zeus4par's thread.
Thanks Thirdperson!

Dems making a solid effort to save lives
On Wednesday, the House passed important legislation
that would raise the legal age to buy certain semiautomatic
centerfire rifles from 18 to 21 years old; establish new federal
offenses for gun trafficking and for selling large-capacity
magazines; and allow local governments to compensate individuals
who surrender such magazines through a buyback program.
The American public is in favor of these proposals ...which means, the republicans in Congress will vote against it and kill it.
