this is correct.  you have no right to a jury trial for low level crimes like this.  the judge can let you have one.

remember, all rights are limited.  in the case of the 6th amendment, the right to a jury trial is limited to all cases except the least serious where the defendant is not likely to go to jail if he loses.

and yes, if it was me, i'd want a jury trial in most cases.  sometimes, if the facts are kind of ugly but you have a good legal argument, a trial in front of the judge is better.  but that's rare.

it's not that the government couldn't come up with a more serious crime, it's that when you violate a judge's order in this way, there's only one crime it could be and it's a minor misdemeanor.

but i agree, jury trials are almost always better and a fairer way to decide things.

that being said, it was already determined that arpaio's policies were illegally racist/racial profiling before this whole contempt business.  the contempt charge was because he kept doing it despite being ordered not to.

Trump's pardon of Arpaio may be construed as obstruction of justice.  Arpaio is supposed to be sentenced in October.  He deserves to be punished  for costing taxpayers millions in lawsuit settlements for decades of illegal behavior.

Obama's pardons are more reasonable.  Mostly inmates that already served excessive time in prisons under current law.  Outdated sentences are costly for taxpayers.  Legal reforms are needed to comply with current laws.

here's an article that goes into a lot of things with arpaio, including when he described being compared to the group as "an honor" in 2007.  that seems racist to me.

    It ain't over till it's over .....

Legal challenge to Arpaio pardon begins...............

On Tuesday,U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton outright declined Arpaio's request to vacate the criminal contempt-of-court conviction due to the pardon he received from President Trump...

Instead, Bolton ordered the Justice Department and Arpaio to appear in court on Oct. 4 for oral arguments on his request to vacate the conviction.

All this over a petty crime,,,a misdemeanor...  Looks like a personnel vendetta runs deep with this judge..she still want's Arpaio to argue his innocence to her..

    Content ?

    What content ?    You saying,that I'm also saying something about HRC crime?....when I didn't ..

"So you are also saying that this HRC should be in jail mantra is also silly sincerely her 'crime' would've also been similar behavior."

I have not endorse the"Lock her up "mantra, although at times during Trump rally's it make me laugh...and about Hillary's behavior being similar ....we cannot compare the two as being the same..  till we see those 35,000 e-mails she bleached...

..........and why is it that every liberal in this forum ( including you) describes themselves as non-partisan Indy ? Is it because you don't have to defend the actions of your true side ?

Now, speaking on mantras ..if you truly don't ID with either party ..then I know you will have no problem denouncing this mantra ...

The link below is the Alex Jones interview of Sheriff Joe on 24 August. Solid interview unlike the interview you would get with Anderson Cooper.

President Trump defends pardon of former Sheriff Joe Arpaio

President Donald Trump on Monday defended his decision to pardon former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, calling him a patriot who was loved in Arizona.

During a joint news conference with the president of Finland, Trump said he announced the pardon on Friday, as Hurricane Harvey approached Texas “because I assumed the ratings would be far higher than they would be normally.”

Arpaio was convicted of federal contempt of court for willfully violating an order that he stop performing immigration actions.

“He’s very strong on borders, very strong on illegal immigration,” Trump said. “He was loved in Arizona.”

As evidence, Trump cited the reaction of the crowd at his rally in Phoenix on Tuesday when he mentioned Arpaio’s name. “The place went absolutely crazy when I was in Arizona last week” Trump said.

Yeah, apparently lotta folks look at it this way. I heard a guy on the radio say it like that.  He was comparing some of Clinton's and Obama's pardons.  He basically said, "Clinton and Obama pardoned people that broke the law; Trump pardoned someone that was upholding the law."

I have no idea what you are saying here at the end so I cannot respond except that I gave money to three candidates this past election and there were all Rs.

I just don't subscribe to the talking points of any particular party which is tough for most partisans to understand.
