darkhorse, for the life of me, I couldn't understand why the left would embrace socialism...until I read your post equating socialism to social media usage.
It is quite possible that the youth of today actually believes, as you do, that socialism is related to twitter and FB. It all makes sense now.
Popcorn for the masses.

Funny exchange going on here from one extreme to the other.
Sanders isnt remotely thinking his extreme/best case platform would ever be reality...so yeah a socialist can modify what they would want to have it work inside our government/economy. Every politician knows compromise and reality exists that nobody gets everything they want.
Socialism isnt awful, there are many positives that come in a socialist economy and yet I really dont know of any PURE socialist economy that exists...a real, true, pure socialist economy. Europe is not a true socialist economy. Id say if anything the Amish are probably more socialist than Europe is.
Here is how I see the subject...there are some aspects of our economy that the government is likely the best alternative for controlling different things...capitalists are profit driven at their core and many things in an economy cannot be controlled and made into profit based ventures AND be successful. I think medical insurance is one of those areas. If the capitalist model for insurance worked then why does HC inflation outstrip CPI and has for decades? That alone means capitalism has failed in this area. When the capitalist approach fails and costs are not being contained, especially not to the detriment of the consumer then capitalism is not working and a different approach is needed.
The government is a LOUSY guardian of pretty much everything and HC is no different, I think much of the reason why the government is lousy at HC is because of capitalist involvement and influence. The way to get HC inflation in check is to prohibit the extortion of the US consumer on behalf of drug companies, hospitals and insurance companies. The US consumer has no rights or say in how costs are determined, there is no natural supply and demand curve because capitalism has destroyed the hand of government in regulation and this the curve is more vertical and inelastic. For costs to come down the government has to put price controls in place and restrict excessive increases and regulate profits in an obviously non-capitalist health care system. We have failed at allowing capitalism to dictate pricing in healthcare, any time a cost center greatly exceeds CPI, capitalism has failed.
Sanders is far left and some of his ideas are too much but he is right, capitalism isnt working in healthcare and it is to the detriment and death of thousands of citizens...its likely time to have more controls in place and stop allowing the extortion of the US citizen by capitalism.

WSC. Nice try but as soon as you get into socialism in any regard these boys immediately think "Russia/China" type communism. I will give them one more thought that will get trashed. The U.S.A., from the Declaration of Independence to the Constitution had elements of socialism built in right from the start. Give them 24 hours to digest that, barf it up, and bash the concept, and I may/may not explain. BOL

Yeah I dont recall that we left Europe because of socialism, rather equal representation and fair taxation..that doesnt sound like a rebuke of socialism, rather a rebuke of a monarch based political system.
I am for a modified mixture of socialism with capitalism and if anyone thinks capitalism does not exist in Europe, they are quite wrong.

Totally agree & it's finding that perfect recipe of each ingredient for it to work properly. I think everyone could agree that our police, fire departments, libraries, roads, bridges, hospitals exist because of taxpayers, Socialists fought for the 40 hour work week which many don't realize. No doubt there are pros/cons for both ism's but we the people decide what will & will not work.

Look at the verb tense. I said "fought" not fight. Prior to this, workers were forced to work 48+ hours a week. It wasn't until Henry Ford decided that too many hours were not good for the productivity of his workers. When I was young & an hourly worker, I would gobble up OT anytime it was available. Because of my hard work & absolute brilliance, I was able to retire @ 55.
Toot toot goes my horn

Here in Canada we are seeing massive Chinese influx of foreign buyers just scooping up every possible listing in top rated school districts with a click of their international mouse with bully bids up to 500k over asking price sight unseen with zero conditions, all cash upfront and a 7 day close...the houses remain vacant for years until their 16yr old spoiled brats come over to learn english for a year and live in an unfurnished house, with just an air mattress...everything they need to sustain themselves gets delivered by Uber Eats, and on their driveway sits one ferrari for weekdays and a lambo for the weekend club scene...the provincial govts love all this new asian tax grabs so they look the other way while the 1%ers from abroad clean their dirty money...we got the same problems too over here...by 2050, China is going to own both our countries.

Darkhore social media is not socialism. One is a political ideology the other is a tool for communication. You say by engaging in social media ipso facto you are embracing socialsm, it doesn't make you a socialist.
Your comparison doesn't make any sense really.
What did you think of the Green New Congresswoman's, Green New Deal? You down with her proposals.
