Well, the 40 to 1 leverage given to banks was approved ( 40 to 1 was petioned for in 2000, but was not approved by the SEC in 2000) by the SEC in 2004 under the direction of Bush appointee Christopher Cox. Also, I might add a total lack of transparency, enforcement, oversight, change the decades old uptick rule to balance the shorts, ect... of the financial markets by the SEC under Bush appointee Chrstopher Cox. Bush Jr. appointee and FEMA Director Michael Brown "Your doing a great job Brownie" during Hurricane Katrina's developing aftermath. Now, either Bush Jr. is a total blockhead or a liar or a combination of both about "Your doing a great job Brownie" and "Mission Accomplished" on the aircraft carrier. My take is that was some Republican lies and propaganda at it's finest spoken by a blockhead. The Republican Congress when it held the majorities in both the House and Senate gave Bush Jr. a rubber stamp to expand all of the trade agreements with China, India, Russia, ect... Now the captain of the Titanic (Bush Jr.) has created the biggest trade deficits in the history of America. Under the Bush expansion in world trade agreements many items can't be built in the USA and exported to China, because China requires production on their soil for sale on their soil. The same "protections" were never afforded to the American middle class workers under the Bush/Republican anti-union (collective bargaining), anti-middle class wages, ( I know my Republican friend told me that all of the American middle class should work for 7 dollars an hour, pay over 40 percent annually in taxes, and we will all be better for it, while the CEO makes 30 million per year and pays less than 20 percent in taxes annually. We are all better for it.), rubber stamped trade agreements. Fair trade would be more like 1 billion worth of goods goes to China, and 1 billion worth of goods is traded back to America. Trade agreements with China under the Bush administration have also resulted in the mass production of copied/pirated American products on Chinese soil, with only token oversight given to this American problem because the Chinese econmy makes billions from forged American products every year under the Bush Administration. The Chinese government also has allowed countless amounts of American technology and intellectual property to be stolen by the Chinese while the Bush Administration has demanded nothing in return from the Chinese or any other country who chooses to copy/pirate our stuff ( No instead of something really important to your countries economic, military, ect.. future. The Republicans/Bush Jr. prioritize internet gambling as one of the biggest challenges facing our country). Before WWII Henry Ford and the head of GM at the time were both given distinguished medals of honor (which they later both denounced) for distinguished service to the Third Reich, because American intellectual property, manufacturing know how, facilities, ect... were freely given to the Third Reich before WWII. The Ford and GM factories in Germany at the time were quickly converted to building the Nazi's war machine prior to WWII. It has been said that Hitler could have never invaded Poland without good old American know how and factory production from Ford and GM. The intellectual property that has been lost, given away, and stolen from the USA under the Bush Administration is certainly one of the most costly legacies that we are left with from Karl Rove, Dick Cheney, Bush Jr. and the other Republicans of the day. The Bush Administration expanded the giving of nuclear technology (more American intellectual property) to India, despite the fact that the top nuclear scientist in India (now comfortably retired) was implicated in the distribution of nuclear technologies to Libya, amongst others ( I believe Iran too) ect... No enforcement of trade agreements child labor laws, pollution standards, ect... with China, or any other country, under the Bush Administration's unprecedented and reckless expansion of world trade (take little steps and see what happens). Now to the war in Iraq. Weapons inspectors were in Iraq, Hans Blix went before the UN security council in the days leading up to the Iraq war, saying the UN team not found any WMD in Iraq, but if given more time they would find them if WMD's were in Iraq. Bush ordered the UN inspectors out of Iraq to avoid the risks and dangers of the war which was ordered by Bush. Where are the WMD's that we were told was inevitable? The Congress and the American people were told that Saddam was developing a nuke. The UN weapons inspectors had not found any evidence of that at that time. Bush could have just declared Iraq firing on American planes enforcing the "No Fly Zone"(though never hitting any of them) an act of war and bombed Saddam's palaces as military targets and saved the USA a war which has cost so much in so many ways. Unintended consequences continue to develop around the world from this Bush Jr. blunder. Every Republican President we get lately has America involved ground war. Iran was not the developing threat that it is becoming until Bush disturbed the checks and balances in the Middle East between Sunnis and Shiites. Iran had to fear a total invasion from the US and not Iraq, had Bush not spent our military resources on Iraq. Iran had kept compliant with UN weapons inpectors, agreements, ect... until well after the ground invasion of Iraq. I believe, no law in the history of mankind hasn't been broken by somebody. If their is not an effective enforcement mechanism (The USA possibly attacking Iran if they didn't behave, which again, they did behave until unintended consequences of the Iraq invasion took effect). Bush shooting off his mouth about the axis of evil Iraq, Iran, and North Korea did not help matters either. Tax cuts ( that's all I hear about from the same old Republicans, more tax cuts for the rich, then even more tax cuts for the rich. Never satisfied, just more, more, more of the same old failed Republican policies. Heck, we'll even give the middle class a little temporary tax break, to get even more Republican tax cuts for the rich. Yeah, that economic Republican policy disaster has worked out real well for the American middle class and poorer Americans over the past 8 years hasn't it? Tax cuts which were ultimately of little benefit to the American middle class and lower, but greatly benefitted the richest of Americans.Tax cuts which were a contributing factor to the more inefficient use of American capital sending the investment money to China, India, Russia. Now they have our intellectual property, manufacturing, jobs, money, ect...the tables have turned under the Bush Administration. Throughout history those with the highest manufacturing output per capita enjoyed the highest standard of living, the highest property values, the most capable military, ect... Increase manufacturing output per capita in the USA and pay people a good livable (enough raise a family, buy a house, buy a car, save for the kids college, healthcare, ect... just like the decades, years, and months before the Bush Jr Administration) wage to do it and we will once again enjoy the highest standard of living in the world, or vice-a-versa. Again, the loss of intellectual property and copycat Chinese, ect... manufacturing is a Republican/Bush legacy that is very difficult for America to overcome, if we are to ever become our former selves.
