Chicago is around the top when it comes to number of homicides. Not sure about homicide rate but who cares, they have serious issues regardless.

Since January, over 2,100 people have been shot in Chicago and they have had over 3,000 shooting incidents. 

What percent of the 3,000 incidents are the result of a legal firearm?

0% would be a better guess than 10%.

i'm not sure what legal firearm means but where the person bought the gun isn't necessarily relevant to whether the person legally had a right to have it. 

the only way i can think of to truly know is to see if the person who committed the crime of violence was also charged and convicted of illegally possessing the gun.

The only reason the homicide rate in Chicago is like 17th in the country is because Chicago is so big and has so many upscale areas (West/North Side). If the hell hole known as the South Side was its own city, the homicide rate there would be off the charts.

Get rid of suicides (66% of gun deaths) and gangs and we barely have a gun problem in America.

Actually, States and countries with the most guns have the most gun deaths.  Guns allow people to kill more easily.  States and countries with tighter gun control have fewer gun deaths.

Most experts and people agree on many ways to reduce gun violence.  However politicians are divided.

I think it's just too late regarding gun control.  There's just too many guns floating around this country.  Any attempt to restrict, control, regulate, etc, etc won't yield any meaningful reduction in gun violence.  I have no statistics or facts to back up this claim.

Addressing mental health, relative poverty and reducing single parent households will reduce violent crime. Far more than a ban on suppressors will ever do.
