I don't think it's a good idea to use the rally as a way to measure Trump's support. No, I don't think they're the silent majority but I do believe I know why it wasn't packed. You can't make everyone think and act the same way you do. Just because most Republicans want people to live without fear and to do it boldly, doesn't mean the average person will automatically do that. Many Republicans are successful or have some health complications and they may support Trump, but they also have long-term things they care about and so no, they're not going to just throw it all away to be cheerleaders at an event.

There is a slim possibility those Democratic viewers are of the more open minded type and wanted to hear what he man had to say and give it consideration. If there were just one that would be an improvement over Trump forever partisans. Open in intelligent minds may be more common than some people think, when they have decided they and their cohorts are 1,000% right and it can not possibly be any other way. And, btw, 1.6 million viewers ain't diddly squat in a heated political campaign rally. His reality TV show did a lot better than that. Impossible to know how many of the viewers were just interested, or disgusted or fell asleep, but it damn sure wasn't 1.6 million looking for a new messiah to follow. By Trump, and political rally standards it was a disaster, and there is no rose-colored-glasses way to look at it.
It's hard to stop watching a train wreck
To your other points Key, I also believe that a lot of people today have a moderate stance. So yes, that will pull more views. And yes, the amount of views doesn't mean anything in which way the viewers are going to vote.
Someone once said(I forget who), "The problem isn't the people who don't vote, it's who they allow to vote"

I can be a brutal radical bastard that makes fine citizens like yourself church going plate carrying deacon types believe that they are safe. That if it mattered their is actual who cares to respond to the immediate need whether health or security that some may have to face....
But the silent majority has the same mo. They go to work for less than worth in terms of money they do difficult things and come home to rest their Pew is the recliner their church is the fridge and what they have to eat and drink and the sermon is a sports contest where they live in a blessed contentment distracted that tommorow they return to work for very little and hope to be acknowledged for the sacrifice they make every week.... The one thing we can see vis de vis is that Trump is an abomination of that office as most salesmen are...

A travesty': Dr. Gupta reacts to Trump's testing remark CNN's Dr. Sanjay Gupta weighs in on President Donald Trump's comment about the coronavirus at a rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Trump said he wanted to "slow the testing down." An administration official later told CNN that the president was "obviously kidding" when he made the remark.Source: CNN
Anybody that would take him seriously on that comment is an obvious dope.... and yes, that includes basically ALL the media..

As I have said before, Trump is the worst stand up comedian in the world. I don't remember any of the great ones needing an explanatory spokesman later. Robin Williams would have starved to death with Trump's routine AND DELIVERY. Since no one ever seems to get the humor, except his defining spokesperson, perhaps he should consider giving it up. Time for a career change anyway.
And if his humor is so damn good, why doesn't his audience crack up? They are there because they love him, and even they fail to see the humor.
Now and then even a BLIND squirrel can find an acorn

He's the damn President. Everything he says should be a serious message, and should be taken seriously.
You know damn well that he meant it, just like the countless f*ck up comments he's made in the past. And of course it's not him, everyone else is a dope and ALL media. Deflection at it's finest. How many outs can the guy have? He's horrible.
It sucks that he's the Republican candidate for you guys. I know that you want a Republican to be the President. Even with that being said, how you or anyone can defend Trump is just lunacy.
In a perfect world I'd like a candidate who's going to unite both parties. That ain't happening, but I think Biden is a better option than Trump.
The far left, and far right are full of lunatics imo. Wish I could word that better, but politics make my blood boil.

Then why did he even say it? Why? Besides him displaying his utter arrogance. The rally was important to him and his party was it not? Why give anyone a layup who opposes him?
He's an awful individual. If I'm wrong with my assessment of people than so be it

Just amazing how much of his base does take him seriously. They are all over the place every day. Just look how many rush here to defend every gaff out of his mouth. Just a suggestion, but, since he is such a lousy comedian why not let his definers deliver the speech in the first place, then inform the audience that what comes out of his personal mouth is not really the speech, intent or message?
The question of who is a dope should probably not be explored too deeply.

I stand for the candidate that believes in lower taxes & less government, believes in individual rights , believes in right to bear arms, believes in law and order, believes in funding the police , ... .. who the hell do you think that is ? It ain't Biden !
You yourself just explained you're not a liberal. So, who are you voting for ??? You may not like the man, but the values he stands for is what's important to me ...

No politician believes in lower taxes or less government. The last time a budget mattered was 20 to 30 years ago. Now it is which sub section of spending do you want to fund and support...the rest is just pure garbage.

Trump changed his party affiliation 5 times since 1987.
All those values you mentioned are representative of the Republican party. And shoot I agree with them.
But I can't trust Trump. Do you really think that he adheres to those values himself? Hell no. He's too full of himself, he's an egomaniac. And I don't want that kind of person leading us.

Wall, those are two different things. ... Lower taxes/Less government and a balanced budget.. Spending is the biggest problem in regards to the lack of a balanced budget, not the lack of a tax revenue because of lower tax rates..
This country needs to implement fiscal responsibility, but there are no repercussions for spending into oblivion ( for now) . The Chinese Virus has now put us on "escape velocity " on our debt.... with really no ability to pay it back . ... Ever. I don't think people understand what our tax rates are gonna look like in the future to pay this all back.

I disagree.. he's been steadfast for years. Perhaps most importantly, he pointed out the threat that is China long before it showed up on any else's radar. Does this even matter to anyone ??, or should we happily hand over our trade secrets to Chinese companies, just to have access to their markets ? That's just dumb. Those very Chinese companies will then compete against us !
Trump correctly calls out the inclusion of China into WTO as one of the most disastrous decisions in recent years. The Cheating Cheaters of China gonna Cheat...

Stu, what exactly are we talking about... . Making his silk ties or Ivanka's clothing line ? Those trade secrets? Are we at risk of losing our textile business? It ain't coming back.... No, I'm talking about trade secrets in our electronics, etc. China is not getting stronger militarily on the back of Ivanka's clothing/lingerie line... lol. There's a joke in there somewhere..

I'm not going to get into it because i'm not a Trump basher, so it would be a pointless trip down a pointless rabbit hole leading to a pointless debate but there is so much more there than the manufacture of crappy clothing. Google it. I'm not saying that as a smart ass comment. I'm just saying...

Rush - nothing personal but I would assume you are relatively young. Thousands of people, too old for you to pay attention to, have been warning about trade and technology with China for many years. My grandchildren could verify that 15 years ago I suggested they take Chinese as a language in high school, so that they would be able to communicate with their future masters. Trump is not way ahead on this, he is many years behind, and that is not all his fault, as our toady politicians have believed this "trade with China" fiasco since Nixon. He and Kissinger were the first idiots in the chain. "We can sell them 100 million personal computers!" was the theory. Myself and few hundred thousand other folks immediately saw the flaw. NO, you can't. You will sell them a dozen. They will break them down, reverse engineer them, clone them, and in six months be selling them back to us. We will be, up to date, state of the art, at $2,000 a pop. They will be six months to a year behind at $400 a pop. Who is going to sell more computers?
Trump's ties and Ivanka's clothing line are not matters of national security, no, but they do represent a willingness to hire very cheap foreign labor to replace domestic labor, paid a living wage and protected by worker safety laws in this country. Maybe they can exit China and join Tommy Hilfiger in Bangladesh, where entire families (children included) work in unsafe, fire-trap factories for 22 cents an hour, each, so they can all have a bowl of rice in the evening. Trump would tout the move as "Taking my business out of China" and his minions would cheer. Hoo-Rah
