The Texas National Guard said it would send 250 troops to the border within 72 hours and had already deployed two Lakota helicopters, while Arizona's governor said he would send 150 personnel next week.
"The Texas national guard is preparing to immediately deploy with supporting aircraft, vehicles and equipment to the Texas-Mexico border,"
Its going to take millions of man hours to guard the wall every single year and that wont even remotely cover the span of the wall that exists. Those man hours equal billions of dollars a year and still wont stop illegals from getting in. What it will do is force more creativity to get here and that for sure will happen.
The span of distance we are discussing make this impossible to contain and the price we are talking makes it a horrible economic decision and a very ineffective one.
Another lousy idea from Trump and his little ego will fuel him to keep at this. I am more concerned with the drug issue than I am about illegals coming in.

On Monday, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott increased the number of National Guard troops Texas will send to the border as part of President Trump’s recent call to send military officials to defend the southern border against migrants and drug trafficking from 250 to at least 1,000.
On the same day, Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey (R) said that the Arizona National Guard would send 338 troops to the southern border...up from 150 troops..

Its nice that these national guard members are free labor and that the taxpayer isnt footing this bill and that everyone knows of the costs associated.
Ive already stated my view on this subject..I am all for a balanced budget but to do that we would need to kick out special interests, remove lobbyists and erase the awful decision allowing private money to pollute politics. Anything short of this will not accomplish any fiscal improvements. I think politicians owe their loan sharks and so they pay their loan sharks and so we are left with which loan sharks get paid. I side with social programs and domestic infrastructure vs military and elite tax breaks for the wealthy and corps.
If we are spending the money (which we are) give it to the lowest and most needy, not those who already have privilege and power...give to improve the bones of this country (highways, bridges, national parks, electric grid, etc) and to those under the median income level...with firmer stipulation of how these funds are used (meaning firmer standards on the freebies).

I dont recall doing the repub vs dem dance, I rarely do this but there are differences between the two as I stated above. If I have to choose the way the money is spent I will choose to go the social route and for sure repubs are not focused on their loan shark payments to go to that segment of the population vs dems.
If you want to do Obama vs Trump feel free, I am not interested in comparing politicians, so feel free to do that with others I find no value in doing that as a form of debate in general.
I do think that reformed social programs are the way to spend the monies vs giving tax freebies funded from deficits to corps and the elite. I saw a piece the other day saying we are on track to crack 1T in yearly deficits because of this farce Trump passed...and that should happen in less than two years and it will get WORSE. These cuts are back loaded and the pain will come harshly as time goes on unless these are undone and severely reversed.

I stated before and I guess you didnt care to read what I said...the only way to stop the spending or even get close to a balanced budget is to remove the loan sharks....politicians owe their jobs to the loan sharks and unless that is removed, your utopic ideal scenario has zero chance...and thus it has zero chance. Private and corp monies have polluted politics from before this country was even established and there is no stopping it. Someone is going to get paid, a loan shark of one sort or the other gets paid because that is how politics everywhere works.
