This is a private site in which when you sign up you agree to the terms and conditions of the site. So no not at all are you given free run of your temper and mouth and hide it under the guise of free speech.

When you start adding value and contributing, stop insulting and attacking, start keeping the rules then you can call others out and point fingers. Until then your opinion is biased, partisan and means nothing.

serious question since you are very intelligent in these things.

was the inflation we are dealing with now not directly due to the fact we paid millions of people to stop working and basically paid them the same as if they were working for many months. Would this not be the exact definition of supply and demand? Less supply since no one is working as much and same demand since no one’s wallets were hurt? And I’m taking a very broad stance here I understand millions still worked and plenty were affected greatly by the “shut down” but even in my unadvanced education on economics the first thing I thought of when the shutdown talks and “unemployment with additional pay be it $300-$600 a week” was this will not be good for the economy in the future

This from the Board of Governs of The Federal Reserve System

This is their conclusion statement made in January of 2024:

We find that inflation perceptions rose remarkably closely with actual inflation in 2021 and early 2022. In 2023, however, while inflation perceptions have moved down, they have declined noticeably less than actual inflation. These broad patterns also hold across different demographic groups, though inflation perceptions differ significantly across respondents' political affiliations. Importantly, inflation expectations, particularly longer-term expectations, did not increase as much as inflation perceptions over the pandemic, indicating that households have viewed pandemic inflation as mostly transitory. Even so, given the relationship between perceptions and expectations, inflation perceptions persistently above actual inflation could hold up inflation expectations and affect future actual inflation.

but talk to me like I’m a 4th grader……and I’m not saying the pandemic caused it I’m saying OUR REACTIiON to it did……you can’t give trillions to the people, tell them to stop working for months and expect no change in anything to do with inflation

The answer depends on the narrative of the individual. Some here say yes that is why other say no, I say no and not for any partisan reasoning. I base my reply on economic reality and business reality.

Without making another long message the reason why I say no is that pre-pandemic businesses carried inventories as all businesses do. So even with a reduction in supply during the pandemic, businesses had surplus inventories so there was not an immediate shock relative to the reduction in supply. If there was no a supply surplus we would likely have seen higher prices much quicker but those excess inventories carried through and pricing stayed down. Then as raw input prices started going up with a lack of input supply then that impacted COGS and then finished goods, then those added costs of production meant increased inflation to the consumer.

Pricing flows through given a reasonable market. Covid was not an immediate supply shock or a demand shock to move inflation in a shock scenario.

In addition we had fifteen years of efforts from the FED to nudge inflation...fifteen years and trillions of dollars and it did not happen. It takes much more direct consumer pocket cash to move inflation from a demand perspective...to move it the degree we saw in the time frame we saw to me 100% means it had very little to do with stimmy cash. Now if you gave every consumer in the USA a Walmart card only useable at Walmart for 150k, then sure maybe you could move the inflation needle...

Some people have bad days . Others worse weeks . Still others linger to suffer 3 hundred sixty to the fizzle cuz they’re flustered and hurt cuz this Earth for certain turns peeps ,

sideways in the guillotine , pain heaped on top of worse , till they no longer cease to be , and they’re just deceased , as they careen down the street to that cemetery breach with what’s in the lead which usually means you’re finite cuz it’s a hearse .

Life be like that sometimes .

Whether it’s people that carry out outlandish acts of stupidity by storming a capitol building or simple banter that has to be inflicted with miserable slander . All while pretending they got the white gloves on and the pristine untouchable demeanor . It’s just a facade . An illusion . Like what happens to someone when they walk through the desert without water for too long . It’s a mirage . Always has been .

Get your games tighter people . Think Spandex on a big coolie , cuz if those Trump supporters call out for extreme retribution , or anyone else does for that matter , when the circumstances do not find it to be truly honorable , well , they should be dealt with swiftly . And I ain’t talkin’ Taylor homies peace_5

I don't totally disagree with you there. We were taught in economics when we were young that these very things would cause inflation. There is no doubt that the PPP loans, COVID sick pay and unemployment the government gave out hurt the economy, but it also put money back into the economy which was in turn why they did what they did. If they had given out all that free money and it was not put back into the economy then we would be seeing disastrous numbers. We are not seeing that because that money was spent and offset the balances of the economy.

I agree that printing money is a horrible conclusion to make and we were taught early on that when the government prints money that inflation or the economy suffers...after all it is about supply and demand correct...I actually think printing of money that is not spent locally is a major concern, as in funding a war in Ukraine...the unemployment and PP loans and COVID sick pay from your employer were positives to the economy...imagine it like this, what would the economy look like if money wasn't dished out during COVID and the shutdown? I think if you answer this, then you might be on your way...our economy would be in the tanks right now, but it isn't.

There is one caveat to this and that is the unemployment money...I'm in California and have touched on this quite a bit...we are in trouble because we borrowed 20 billion from the Feds to help with unemployment that our Governor and its cronies so diligently mismanaged....however, instead of our California government paying it back, like it should, it is getting money from each business to pay it back...not fair to the businesses which most already suffered during the pandemic but that is what happens when you owe the feds...most people do not realize that a business gets a credit off what it owes to the IRS for Federal Unemployment...not State, but Federal Unemployment...a business owes both...that credit is automatically given to each business when your state does not owe the feds, however when you owe the feds that credit is reduced by 0.3% each year until the loan your state took is paid back...currently California is on year 3 of paying back that loan or an adjusted rate that is 0.9% higher than other states businesses who pay in 0.6%...It is estimated that we will not pay back the feds in California from the Unemployment debacle until 2032 or so...keep adding that 0.3% each year and do the math....California fucked its businesses...California and the Virgin Islands are the only two states in this predicament...it's know as a credit reduction state and we in California, as a business, are screwed...

I might look at it from a different angle when it comes to inflation...there are other variables to consider but I believe this is what kept our economy somewhat stable through the pandemic and coming out of it...I think it would be ten times worse had the money not been put back into the economy like it was...

So you take it out and then put it back in ? And then you take it out and you put it back in again ? And you keep doing that on repeat till what happens ? Forget it . I know how this ends so you don’t need to answer because I’ve got experience with something that follows these same exact guidelines . Usually something bursts because after a while it just can’t be contained . And sometimes something brand new and unknown grows from it and you’re left there to deal with the consequences and repercussions . Does this inflation thing come with anything that resembles , or that could be classified as a condom or contraceptive ?

so basically zero inflation could happen if no more money is dispersed? Granted I understand the concept that the money “printed” during the pandemic helped because it allowed $ to be put back into the economy that otherwise wouldn’t be there, but isn’t that the point? The money printed then to make sure it was spent should never have been printed in general to keep inflation down? As I said I’m not nearly as educated on this subject as others but would like to understand

there was so much fraud in NYS with the money the state was handing out between unemployment to the business loans, so not all of it went back into the economy as it was expected. Anyone with a brain knew at the time there was no oversight, and everything was being pushed through by remote workers who didn't even work in that division of the state before and therefore didn't care who got money. 49 other states must have had similar circumstances

Also, my post was not about ranking the states, my post was about how homeowners insurance costs are rising incredibly in red and blue states. UNIMAN LEFT OUT: This ignores Kelly’s comments that this happened when he was with Trump at his son’s own grave. Suddenly John Bolton has more credibility than the witness who the words were directed to? All Bolton is saying that he didn’t hear him say that. But if Bolton wasn’t there for the conversation, then of course he wouldn’t hear him say that.

Also funny how Trump has fired 300 people from one administration so suddenly they’re all “not credible?” Okay, so all fired employees from any other administration are no longer credible. All Clinton, Obama, Biden whistleblowers are no longer credible! Steve Bannon was fired, he’s not credible! O’Reilly was fired a few times – he's not credible! Half the dirtbags at Newsmax and The First were fired from other networks – all not credible! Bolton was fired, so he's not credible!

MY COMMENT: - Any post about how immigrants pay taxes is ridiculed, despite my immigrant neighbors struggling to pay their taxes, and many experiences with other immigrants paying taxes. (Employers who have someone on the books are going to pay taxes for that person, and that person will also file a return. Nobody is stupid enough to trigger an audit over stuff like that. And you don’t see the IRS returning tax $$$ when 22 people are using the same SSN.)

UNIMAN’S INTENTIONALLY MISLEADING ANSWER: Many Immigrants have a great loophole by getting paid cash for odd jobs. And I have no problem with that. All I ask is for controlled immigration. Biden has set immigration back for years. The reaction to his failed policies will hurt future immigration.

UNIMAN LEFT OUT: By changing the subject, he avoids having to acknowledge the facts that immigrants legally employed, are on lots of payrolls and paying taxes. My post on this wasn’t partisan, but he tries to attack my fact about immigrants pay taxes by somehow blaming Biden for something irrelevant to immigrants paying taxes. Try to stay focused on the ball. Not everything is partisan.

MY COMMENT: - Any post about how immigrants pay taxes is ridiculed, despite my immigrant neighbors struggling to pay their taxes, and many experiences with other immigrants paying taxes. (Employers who have someone on the books are going to pay taxes for that person, and that person will also file a return. Nobody is stupid enough to trigger an audit over stuff like that. And you don’t see the IRS returning tax $$$ when 22 people are using the same SSN.)

UNIMAN’S INTENTIONALLY MISLEADING ANSWER: Many Immigrants have a great loophole by getting paid cash for odd jobs. And I have no problem with that. All I ask is for controlled immigration. Biden has set immigration back for years. The reaction to his failed policies will hurt future immigration.

UNIMAN LEFT OUT: By changing the subject, he avoids having to acknowledge the facts that immigrants legally employed, are on lots of payrolls and paying taxes. My post on this wasn’t partisan, but he tries to attack my fact about immigrants pay taxes by somehow blaming Biden for something irrelevant to immigrants paying taxes. Try to stay focused on the ball. Not everything is partisan.

MY COMMENT: - A post about Trump’s felony conviction is immediately attacked as not real because “they got” Alex Jones “in the same week.” That one had me fly off the handle because Alex Jones literally encouraged death threats against parents of grieving six-year olds. I took a few days off from this forum after that. Jones didn’t even raise a defense in his case, yet he’s not liable? Okay …

UNIMAN’S INTENTIONALLY MISLEADING ANSWER: Everyone in the country knows Trumps guilty verdict in NY will be overturned in the future. Most likeky after the election. What a joke of a trial. A total misuse of the judicial system. Where are all the riots, incidences, violent protests? Why is Trump raking in cash like never before? Hasn't that lightbulb gone on yet?

And NO, he is NOT a convicted felon. He was found guilty of.........hell, we do not even know, but he is guilty of something. That lefty judge will make it up next month and it will get overturned.

UNIMAN LEFT OUT: Completely ignores my frequent mentions of Alex Jones being used as a defense against ... Trump’s 34 felony convictions in a court of law. I mean, I guess I would use cheap tricks like this to try and avoid defending Alex Jones – obviously he didn’t hire a lawyer to help him defend against the case where he was:

Sued for defamation

Against parents

Of children who were killed in a mass shooting

By encouraging his listeners

To make death threats against the parents

Instead, just ignores all of that. How convenient.

Remember guys, Trump didn't threaten the Fed Chair for his entire four years in office. Never happened. No way Jose. What Fed Chair? What does a chair even have to do with the economy? I didn't even say chair. Well I did say chair but I was joking and you're taking it out of context. Then a crying man, sobbing man, crying like a baby, big as an elephant (Trump's phrase for saying he likes his hog), came to me and said 'Sir, thank you for defeating Obama in the last election.' And I knew that even though Nancy Pelosi was running against me in the primary, Nikki Pelosi I mean Jack Kennedy I mean man woman camera person infrastracturerrrrrrrrrrrrr .....
