    @BigGame90

     I keep saying the same thing, it is impossible to isolate when you are part of a global economy with all countries working together and needing different things from each other. Oil independence is a political fake term that is used to anger certain conservative people who are not intelligent enough to know they are being played. It does not matter if you produce a MULTIPLE of your oil need, the pricing still is controlled by the global market, so dump that moron catch phrase your pal uses, there is no way you can isolate a global commodity it has zero chance of working because we function in a worldwide market with supply and demand cohesively flowing, it is really a stupid phrase that makes me wonder if people will believe anything they hear from a political moron.

    The point I keep making is the more you listen to paid clowns with an agenda the more you lose your intelligence and that goes on both sides. Biden is not very smart, Trump is for sure not very smart but the machine under them knows that stupid lazy citizens will lap up whatever they are told and that politicians can divide the population and USE them to get elected...they can lie, shade, cheat, defraud, insult, abuse and idiots will still follow and want to follow.

    This oil spike will wear off it is not long term but it is for sure being used as a tool by politicians and this very thread shows it works. I keep saying the same thing over and over and over and yet you seem completely unable to understand the basic concept of global economies and how pricing is not determined or controlled when you are part of a fluid global economy. I am 100% positive you had zero idea about the nuances of Keystone yet you yapped on about it being the reason for our woes and blaming Biden for shutting it down...it has ZERO to do with the issue and as a citizen of this country nobody should be in favor of a separate country using your soil and allowing a disgusting toxic sour to be run through your country so some refinery in Texas can profit off the sludge and then ship it to China, no you are told by a politician that this is why you are paying more for gas and Biden is to blame...its so stupid it makes me sick.

    The reason for the move is speculation and a reduction in exploration due to the PREVIOUS decline in oil and the loss of many fringe producers and MANY big players, these decisions made in 2020 have ripples going for another 3 years...R&D plans cancelled in 2020 will reverberate for several more years and more exploration plans in 2022 will take several years to bear results and that will create excess supply in the future and prices will likely decline then.

    Not sure why I even try to educate, people would rather watch a tv clip or read a biased blog and slurp up idiot words than understand the truth.

    Only a fool thinks oil can be completely removed from society and thinks the sun and wind will power the world.

    Obviously.   This planet is in accelerating decay because of it.

     I think you have me confused. My topic was never on the keystone pipeline. My question has always been, why is oil spiking in pricing in the markets? You answered with "speculation". So why is gas hitting all time highs, is that speculation as well? Literal all time highs today. We just got bumped another 10% in gas since Monday. MSM is claiming the bump is because the US is no longer accepting Russian imported oil which only makes up ~3% of our supply (and here I am thinking oil is priced on speculation). So why the hell is gas going up 35% in the last few weeks, is it really because of Russian imports? Or is that just the excuse to siphon money from consumers that need to drive while continuing to push up consumer debts? Or is this all the plan to make people stay home to slow the economy and keep hitting oil as completely dangerous to the country like a few posters in here like to speak of?

    CA is over $6 a gallon. I don't think that is speculation causing price increases. I also don't think it's because of restricting Russian oil imports like MSM claims.

    @BigGame90

     Gas prices are a function of speculation on unleaded futures AND a combination of the calculation of yield on a barrel of crude...so 1 barrel will yield a very precise quantity of products with gas being one of them...so you can extrapolate how much gas comes from crude and calculate base price with the cost of crude, then that is the wholesale price and add taxes on and transport etc...above and beyond that is the supplies of gas and speculation, that is all there is. That is how gas is priced...so if you find out that wholesale gas based on crude would be 2.50 today, add taxes and transport and then add profit at the pump it puts you in a ballpark price and you can see how much is speculation only.

    Thanks for the explanation. Obviously this is a segment of the market I am ignorant about. Since taxes are increasing, transportation costs are increasing, supply is harder to come by and wholesale prices are increasing and the market shares are increasing, how the hell do we get prices lower in the close future to help peoples pockets? Or do they just keep prices moving up until everything comes crashing down and people have no more money because of inflation and stagnate wages? Fed need to turn that money printer back on and create hyper inflation?

    In the past I remember that there was a tax holiday or an idea of repealing the tax back when it happened before. That is a flawed approach though because the federal tax covers road repairs so cutting the tax just means somewhere else will pay for the gas tax revenue lost.

    What we can do is give incentive for electric cars, build infrastructure for charging, keep developing higher fuel economy cars, try to give incentive to rideshare etc..

    Exactly. peace_5  Positive moves in the right direction.

    Oil is contributing enormously to the decay of our planet.   We need to transition to renewables.   Nobody is saying that can be done overnight to begin at 9:00 am. tomorrow morning, but we must make daily steps in that direction - even though we will still need oil for a considerable period of time until technology gets so advanced that we can move commercial trains, planes and shipping, safely and effectively with renewables.  Road-bound passenger vehicles of all kind and public transportation can easy into transition much more quickly, and should, and adding power to the electrical grids from renewables needs to develop rapidly as well.

    Russia, Belarus squarely in ‘default territory’ on billions in debt -World Bank

    Russia and Belarus are edging close to default given the massive sanctions imposed against their economies by the United States and its allies over the war in Ukraine, the World Bank’s chief economist, Carmen Reinhart, told Reuters.

    https://www.fxempire.com/news/article/russia-belarus-squarely-in-default-territory-on-billions-in-debt-world-bank-929448

    The ripple effect from massive sanctions by Western world against Russia and it's crony, Belarus has brought severe consequence upon these countries. Temperature and pressure are building up, sooner or later they should implode.

    You mean give incentives that car manufactures will just cheat to pass emissions like they've already done? Or charge ride share companies drivers as employees so ride share companies just go out of business because ride share drivers are not considered independent divers anymore? You really want ride share companies to tell drivers they have the 2am to 10am shift because they are now "employees with benefits"? Are ride share companies payinf for record gas prices, tires, insurance, gas, electricity, insurance? You think that's a sustainable business model huh? Instead of letting drivers pick their own hours that fit their life style, you want to the company to require their hours?! Taxi cabs ripped people off with either charging miles or time per ride depending on which made more money for the driver and the riders never got the benefit! So ride shares changed the game with independent drivers and they got screwed because taxi drivers "lost" because they didn't change their business model?!  Sounds like you're pushing for more amazon type of business which has crippled small business and put profits in corporations (see covid shut downs). I thought the idea was to put profits in people, not corporations? Seems like you're on the wrong side.

    Electric cars are not affordable for more than 70% of American citizens! Why does a gas powered car from the 60's still drive on the road but we can't keep an electric car from 2010 on the road?! What happens to a full electric car when the battery dies?! Do those owners replace the battery for 60% of the car value, or throw the car away? You want to go electric, but you waste more when the battery dies!

    414-17

    US House passed a bipartisan bill to ban Russia oil imports to the United States, 414-17, a lopsided decisions. We don't see that kind of overwhelming support on both sides of the aisle very often.

    @BigGame90

     I think you made too many assumptions in the reply, I never mentioned corps at all. Ride share meaning give tax breaks for car pooling that is what I mean by ride sharing, not ride sharing corps. Electric car incentives are no different than the freebies we give and have given for decades to car makers, just shift focus from gas to electric and do not give to corps give the breaks to the consumer who is the buyer of those cars.

    Not sure where you compare old cars and new, I owned several domestic cars from the 70s and 80s and they were garbage, horrible gas mileage, poor construction and not at all durable. Maybe some collector cars or people who keep a vintage older car but not sure what you mean generally..lol

    Some positive news...

    FBI Chief Chris Wray tells Senate Intel Committee that Putin has overestimated his ability to use cryptocurrency to bypass sanctions. US has intercepted and taken down a number of crypto networks.

    Harvard teens made a website matching Ukrainian refugees with people offering places to stay.

    Have taken my vacation from Covers to educate myself on this Keystone Pipeline. This is what I found;

    Yes, it is a heavy oil requiring heavy oil refinement. Organizations like National Geographic and insideclimatenews.org call it the most destructive oil.

    The Chinese have purchased this oil, they don't own it, and have purchased it only when the price is to their liking.

    POLITIFACT rates this; "The Keystone XL Pipeline doesn't even have any oil for America" as MOSTLY FALSE.

    https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2017/apr/16/kirsten-gillibrand/will-oil-keystone-xl-pipeline-stay-us/

    POLITIFACT rates this; "The Keystone XL Pipeline would have produced 830,000 barrels of oil a day, more than enough to offset what we import from Russia" as HALF TRUE

    https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2022/feb/28/jake-laturner/keystone-wouldnt-simply-offset-oil-us-imports-russ/

    Now fact check sites have been wrong on numerous occasions, i.e. absolutely no US backed bio-labs in Ukraine, Hillary didn't spy on Trump, etc.

    This with other publications backs up that Keystone Oil is NOT destined for China.

    December 9th, Bloomburg; Biden credits his supply efforts for lower pump prices

    February 10th, Biden; "I am going to work like the devil to get gas prices down"  (he got the devil part right)

    So a President has no bearing on a global market yet this president quickly takes credit for a small drop in December and says he will work on it. Now he blames Putin for all of our high costs including fuel that were high BEFORE the invasion and sanctions. Just imagine how the press would have treated Trump in the same position, but HE never would have gotten us there!

    My 2 cents, some will like it, some will skip over with an enlarged earlier quote and say rah-rah-rah, others will hate it......life goes on. an_wink

    I agree with you TP. The truth slowly emerges over time often times too late before damage is done! The Russian bounty for our soldiers is a good example, factchecked and label true the Biden admin stated it was not substantiated.

    The USA TODAY saying absolutely false;  USA FUNDING BIOLABS IN UKRAINE

    Now we find out yes we funded biolabs in Ukraine. Now what these labs actually did??????, THE US DID FUND LABS.

    This recent children's hospital bombing. As soon as I saw footage my first reaction was....so few children and pregnant woman??? A couple of each. Hmmmm. Then the Russians say they had Intel the hospital was a troop base. So I have to ask myself who is lying here. Very plausible troops would seek cover in what could deemed a non- target building. Not very plausible Russia would target children's hospital, even China would have problems with that! So little to gain and so much to lose for the Russians has me wondering. I don't trust either of them.

    So Putin has found the best way to keep control is to cancel those who speak against him and label it as misinformation.

    Our country doing the same communist thing, anyone deemed spreading misinformation, Hunters laptop comes to mind, shutdown and removed.

    Hmmm, how are we so much better???

    @UNIMAN

     I think you need more time off to learn about Keystone and maybe not looking only at conservative right wing sources might help you.

    Keystone does not PRODUCE ANYTHING, it is a pipeline, how can a pipeline produce something?

    You keep sticking to your mind numbing talking points and it makes no sense, Keystone does not offset ANYTHING to the US consumer, oil is a global commodity there are producers and consumers, Russia is a net producer so EVERY SINGLE COUNTRY who is not a net producer is taking Russian product in one way or the other, it isnt like there is a label so you can go to the grocery store and pick a Turkey apple instead of a Russian one, so the US is a net consumer and that means the entire global barrel of oil is being taken from, unless every single country refuses to take Russian oil, including black markets then EVERYONE is taking Russian oil in one way or the other, and why is Russian oil the target anyway? Russian oil is not being produced by the Russian government officials, it is produced and acquired by people...citizens, Russians who are no different than you and me just living their lives and doing the best they can. It is impossible to isolate when you are part of a global economic system and we are, so forget these Republican tangent blame finger pointing waste of time junkets its stupid and pointless.

    Stop with Keystone anything, all you found and what I said is 100% true because it is a fact, it is a PIPELINE transporting nasty sour crude to be refined by US companies for use away from this country, that sour crude should be refined in Canada OR why does China not pay to transport it a different way and have China refine it? There is NO reason why US soil should be used for Canadian and Chinese sole benefit, its way too much risk and zero true benefit outside Valero having more business, but they would still be in business without it so that argument is also useless.

    No more Russian vodka in this country, pres. Biden just announces ban on Russian wine, seafood...

    Keep hammering Russian economy and punishing Putin's aggression, pressure cooker will likely keep steaming till its top blowing off in the end.

    If Putin brings Syrian fighters to the Ukraine, I could see chemical weapons being next.

    Hope I'm wrong.

    Shelling heard in Kyiv as of now, it seems Russian forces are closing in the capital of Ukraine. There might be some bloody fights ahead between Ukrainian forces and Russian invaders, hopefully Ukrainians can hang on to the Russian offensives in coming days or weeks. Go, Ukrainians!
