In the red state of Florida, we won't hear anyone dissing socialism when the infrastructure is being rebuilt, businesses destroyed will be reopened, housing will be developed better than ever & social services will be restored. We are a much better country together rather than divided.
Hurricane and pandemic disasters confirm the important roles of governments in helping those less fortunate. Without government assistance, communities would be worse off and recovery much harder.

After hurricane Ian, ironic that Florida cleanup of mess may need illegal migrants due to labor shortage. Disaster restoration companies usually hire alot of migrants because they are willing to do dirty work that most Americans don't want to do. Workers face risks of injury, death, low wages, exploitation and bad working conditions.

love it that all the talking heads up in the NE and West coast are giving Floridians hurricane advice..... here's some advice.... shut the F up, you know nothing of what is going on in Florida, much less Lee County and surrounding areas. Get F'd... it's not even a week after the storm, the clean up and rescue efforts going on right now are amazing and a testament to the people of the area and the great people from across the US who came down to help their fellow humans.
but yeah, go ahead and politicize it for your personal gain...no surprise here....pathetic humans out there.

Some of the usual suspects here missed my point entirely. Of course fed funds (FEMA) will help out everyone after this disaster.......but they don't need someone delaying the process by trying to decide who gets the help first. Harris is suggesting adding more "red tape" to the effort, solely so she can look like the good guy. She has no idea how this works. First, the infrastructure has to be rebuilt......roads, power, communications, water, etc........all have to be restored before individuals can rebuild. Everyone is going to be "inconvenienced" for a while.
Now is not the time to be playing politics.

Harris is now suggesting that hurricane relief should be based on "equity".
Media matters reveal that Fox news weaponized Harris climate equity comments to push a white grievance narrative. Falsely implying that Biden administration plans to deny disaster relief to white victims of hurricanes. But equity isn't about exclusion. It's about ensuring the most vulnerable populations are included in disaster relief and future climate adaptation.

DeSantis delayed recovery efforts 4 hours yesterday for a photo op in his new pearly white boots without a spec of mud on them. The picture of him in these boots will go down in Florida political history.
Residents were outraged because supplies with food, water & generators were held up from being delivered.

BTW...politics is part of everything. Don't be so naïve.
Everyone raises the concern about leadership during a crisis & DeSantis has done nothing about the property insurance issues in Florida because he spent his time on banning books & CRT & transgender issues. It's almost impossible to get home owners insurance in Florida.
And instead of him telling people to donate to trusted groups who have decades of experience with disasters, he started his own disaster fund naming his wife as the person in charge.
WTF????

Tacky fashion sense for DeSantis to wear cheerleader white boots. According to Miami herald, more disturbing is DeSantis politicizing when he should be protecting people. Before the hurricane, he told Floridians they have the freedom to not evacuate to safety. Just as during the pandemic, he supports freedom over masks. So far, at least 100 storm related deaths across Florida.

you are a vile disgusting human being to put something like this out.... been through Irma and now Ian. this is so far from the truth its not even funny. sad and sick you would say this. we were all told over and over again that if you were along the coast or low lying area to evacuate. my brother was 2 mile from sanibel bridge (now gone). He was in the 2nd floor luckily but was told to evacuate 24 hours before, had plenty of time, decided to stay. If you have not lived in FL a significant time and been through hurricanes then you have no f-ing clue.
with all the new locals down here in Lee county I'm not surprised at all how many did not leave because they had no idea what could really happen. very sad. lots of people learned valuable lessons that those of us who have lived through them already know. People think because "it hasn't happened to them" it wont' happen. dangerous fallacy when it doesn't work out.

I have relatives in Pensacola......they were "on alert" from the get-go. But they knew that they'd have to wait to see which way the storm would track......& fortunately they were spared.
Meanwhile.........VP Harris is on her way to Texas.........not to see the border crisis, which she is supposed to be in charge of, but rather to try & raise money for other dems.......typical.

We live in Southeast Florida & dodged another bullet. Just high winds & palm fronds down throughout the neighborhood per my neighbor.
The boss & I are still up in Michigan enjoying the fall weather watching the leaves turn but will be headed back home at the end of October.
After past hurricanes, owners of the properties where many trailer homes are located decided to sell the land, evict the trailer folks & new high end homes are built. SWFL is ripe for the same situations taking place.

Not to hijack the thread but one last thing about the hurricane....
Even though people have lost their homes, they must continue to pay their mortgages unless they make other arrangements with the finance company to avoid foreclosure on their property.

That’s right son, you did not say the Bay was in swfl../ you said that other BS about locals being pissed off because recovery efforts were put on hold for DS photo op. You on the ground down here?? Nope so I stand by what I said STFU with that political BS. Biden was down today WITH Desantis and their message was work together to rebuild, put politics aside. Sad to see people like you and that pos third person doing the opposite….

Ok, so I was being nice to you but now you are pissing me off.
Recovery assistance to Arcadia, FL was delayed 4 hours by state troopers while DeSantis was there for his photo op yesterday. That's an undeniable fact.
He made busses available to transport immigrants to Martha's Vineyard but didn't make buses available to help the sick/elderly evacuate their homes.
These same immigrants that you rednecks despise will be the carpenters, laborers, roofers & bricklayers that help rebuild your homes & communities.

happy to get you riled up.... fake virtue signaling fk
who is a redneck?? showing your true colors huh.... I grew up in the city, not in Florida but even if I did, if you are from Naples Florida that makes you a redneck?? Or just Lee county?? want to make sure I know what you qualify as "city folk" or not.
you dum fks with you political ideology know nothing else but division....
Biden flew in yesterday.... resources were diverted for that too, but hey, who's counting.... like Biden said, it's time to work together and put political division aside. This is probably the only time you can take good advice like that from a senile old man.

by the way, any of you see Biden give Desantis all the props for the recovery efforts?? of course you did, just keeping your traps shut on it cause it doesn't match you BS
"What the governor's done is pretty remarkable," Biden said when asked about DeSantis’s response to the storm. “I think he’s done a good job.”
“We are cutting through bureaucracy. We are cutting through red tape,” DeSantis said before introducing the president. "And that's from local government, state government, all the way up to the president.”
“We have very different political philosophies ... but we worked hand in glove,” Biden said. “On things related to dealing with this crisis, we’ve been completely lockstep. There’s been no difference.”
