I didn't say that. I said you need to pay skilled people a fair wage to compensate them for their skill set. I personally do not believe all teachers should be paid the same wage (or wages based on years of service). Obviously a teacher with chemistry, physics, engineering, computer programming skills bring a much more marketable skill set than a teacher who teaches history or geography. If we want a good knowledge transfer to our children to prepare them for that next level of education you need to pay for it.
wow you just blew my mind. I mean i know that people think like that, but reading it in that context just about made me sick. You are ok with a system that says that information is something to be horded, unless you pay someone top dollar to share it?
I am of the opinion that the only thing humans have proven to do with surplus wages is to bid up land values/house prices. You double a teachers salary, and they will absolutely at least double their mortgage. I'd lay -400. So long as this happens, there is no amount that will ever be enough. What people need for a wage to be a living wage is affordable housing. Your economy shows health because Canadian house prices were not bid up to the obscene levels of most of the rest of the free world, and there is no mortgage interest deduction to encourage such activity. That and the movement of your currency relative to the USD.

Be Easy, my socialist Canadian counterpart is a greedy fucking government parasite.
The reality is Ontario is headed into unchartered waters, severely damaged by the recession we've implemented higher taxes (HST 13%) and extremely high energy costs along with seven years of an incompetent provincial government that are spending money like drunken sailors . Going forward I really do not share this clown's optimism that he thinks is in place for this province. Maybe for the the other provinces in Canada but not in cash strapped Ontario. Higher taxes and higher interest rates due to this dipshit and his public sector union cronies salary demands have caused further economic damage in Ontario. The only people who have money to spend are the civil service sector, most of whom have been granted raises beyond the time frame of the wage restraints announced by this province, therefore no real wage restraints at all. Nope Ontario isn't part of the rosy forecast.

i dunno about that. i've read his posts, and he seems intelligible. I don't think that many understand the implications of their actions nor their place in "systems". That doesn't mean that one cannot be (intentionally) instructed to think of things a certain way. It is the individuals responsibility to shed these often misleading thoughts and assumptions to learn of something (better)

The average teacher salary, nationwide, is $55,000.00 a year plus an $18,000.00 benefit package. They are required to put in 1040 hours of classroom time. Do the math -- that's $70.00 per hour and our kids can't add or speak and have their pants hanging down their ass !!!

I'm private sector, and I have lots of money to spend. Must be from my quality Canadian Education and subsidized university experience. Our premiere is not very good, but do you remember Harris?

I have worked in the private sector as well and my skills/education would translate easily tomorrow. I'd make significantly more money if I was willing to relocate but my wife is content where we are and I'm OK with it too.
I'd like to hear what Mr. CanadaCup does that contributes so much to our economy.

There is bus drivers in Wisconsin making over $150,000 a year.
No wonder our countyry is so fucked up, its dopes like this guy who doesnt even know how to read or just doesnt understand what he reads.
His normal wage is 59,000 a year, he made 100,000 in overtime. Is the guy supposed to turn down the overtime? Would you turn down the overtime?
Its pretty clear if this guy is making that much in overtime, they dont have enough bus drivers on the job. Lets see pretty easy solution. Hire more drivers then the overtyime will go down or dont hire the drivers and just pay the overtime. I mean do you want the drivers to work all the extra hours past their 40 hours for free? Is that what they should do.
Its amazing how stupid people are when reading stories like this.
Employees should be allowed to work all the overtime theya re asked to work, but that ovetime pay should never ever go towards their pensions. Workers pensions should always be based on base pay only and if the states would start doing that, there would be no pension shortfalls.
In closing, so what the guy made 159,000, he certainly didnt sit home and get sent a check, he had to work all those hours. And like i said if they dont want the guy making that much money, then hire more bus drivers, pretty easy fix.

But it says he was making $26 an hour. That doesnt seem like that much. He must have been driving like 80 hours a week to earn that much.
the bus driver made 59,000 in regular wages and 100,000 in overtime. I guess these clowns wanted the bus driver to turn down the overtime or work it for free. Very simple solution is for the city to hire more bus drivers, then there wouldnt be all this overtime. I honestly dont understand why the guy writing this article is trying to make the bus driver look bad, when all he did is work his regular hours plus a ton more in ovetime. I mean really what did this guy do wrong?
Legwand, some of the guys on this site really crack me up. they are so jealous of another person making more money then them, instead of trying to better themselves with a better job, they bash the other worker.

to me the public sector unions are peanuts compared to the private sector unions. The stevedores and cement workers and tug-boat unions make way more for their members and get better benefits than the public sector like the teachers or firefighters or other state workers here. this doesn't include the trade unions like the carpenters, steel workers, electrical and plumbing unions. They make way more for their members than say the police officers, etc. their retirement and medical benefits are terrific way better the public sector unions. You guys are after the wrong group. go after the sheet-metal or United Auto Workers. don't go after teachers by golly. they make crap next to these other unions!!!!!!!!!

Mike Harris left office with a surplus after eliminating the Rae inheritance of eleven billion in the red. We need another round of common sense leadership in Ontario.

You do a great job of avoiding every question or point I make to counter the bullshit you spew. Why don't you move to the U.S. and get a job at Fox News?

CD...epec fail on your part...if this was a privatized company they WOULD hire more bus drivers BEFORE he made $10,000 in overtime. The union probably tied some hands to ensure his overtime was available. ONCE AGAIN EPIC FAIL on your part.

Oh and heres a news flash for you Bowlslit, let private companies take over public jobs doesnt make things cheaper and once private companies get a firm grip on the public things, price to the taxpayer goes way up, higher then when it was a public job.
Only difference is instead of the workers making a decent wage, the private company owner pays the workers less money and puts the rest in his pocket. Great idea, lets change public jobs to private jobs, so the fuckin rich can get richer. You are a true American hero rooting for big business to make more money while the little guy makes less. I guess when you have been a ripoff insurance salesman all your life, you side with big business.
Heres another news flash for you. my cities water dept went to a private company, my water bill is now 3 times higher then it was before and on top of that the wrokers salaries are now lower. Bravo to the private company, my cities politicians made another rich guy richer, while lining their pockets with some kick back cash
You can and all these ripoff private companies can both go and frig yourselevs

when you have public workers working for the city or state, the only thing the taxpayers are paying for is the labor of the employees, the city or state doesnt have to make a profit off the taxpayer, but when a private company takes over the public jobs, that company isnt going to just provide the taxpayers with services so its employees can make money, hell no, the owners are going to want to make profit on top of paying its workers. So even thou private contracts might start out cheaper to taxpayer{thats only to get the contract in the first place} they soon go way up, costing the taxpayer more then they were paying for public employees. And once they lock up those long term contracts, there isnt a single thing the taxpayer can do about it, their screwed.
So why anybody with a half a brain would want private companies to take over public sector jobs is beyond me. I guess some people are so brain washed into thinking they are going to get big savings like the the poducts they buy from walmart that are made overseas, or else they just like to pay more for the services, while seeing the rich guys make even more of our cash.

You completely miss the point. Taxpayers do not directly fund the private sector union employees. Consumers have an option among many different companies, if private unions make said company uncompetitive.
As a taxpayer for the State, I have no option other than to deal with the public sector unions ... or do as what Governor Scott Walker is standing up and doing, and say Fuck-to-you public union.

heres where you guys are completely clueless. You are not paying to fund unions, get that out of your head,
You as a taxpayer are paying public workers to perform services for you, thats what your friggin taxpayer dollars pay. Not if an employee wants to use some of the money he EARNED working for the taxpayers to fund his union, thats his business and not anybody elses. Get it in your head, he did his job for you and what he does with his money each week, is his business. Whats next, you will want to tell him what type of car he has to buy, because you pay his salary. Some of you really need to wake up from the comas your all in.
TAXPAYERS DONT PAY FOR UNIONS, WORKERS OWN MONEY PAYS FOR UNIONS.
Some of you believe that a portion of your tax dollars is going into some giant union fund, you couldnt be farther from the truth. Its employees banding together with the money they earn from the services they provide you is where unins get the money. Now maybe you dont like democrats, that still has no bearing on you the taxpayer paying for the services you recieve. What a worker decides to do with hsi money, thats up to him.
So please people wake up.

Our schools are full of "stupid" children whose parents have failed them. The students are the ones who do not want to learn and have no respect. It is not the teachers responsibility to dicipline the students and teacher can't make their students study.
