Some House Republicans Don’t Want To Raise The Debt Limit — Period!Prefer to drive America off a cliff!
Congress raised the debt limit three times under President Donald Trump without controversy, and again in 2021, when Democrats still controlled the House.
“Failure to meet the government’s obligations would cause irreparable harm to the U.S. economy, the livelihood of all Americans, and global financial stability,” Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen warned in a January letter asking lawmakers to raise the debt limit.

Unable to democratically repeal popular democrat policies, republicans have a bad habit of trying to extract concessions by using artificial debt ceiling as blackmail threat that hold US economy hostage. McCarthy is trying to pass a debt limit bill that is uncertain of enough republican support in the House. No chance of bill passing in senate and white house that already approved of raising debt ceiling without conditions. By exempting defense spending, other government programs may suffer 22% cuts which can grow over a decade. Obviously, republicans are out of touch with most Americans who want more spending on social programs. However republicans are anti-abortion, anti-gun control, anti-diversity, anti-vaccine, anti-climate action, anti-Ukraine war, anti-higher taxes for the rich and anti-social safety net.

House GOP promotes the myth that federal spending is out of control as a excuse for spending cuts. Their goal is to weaken social programs under the pretext of protecting them in the long term. Center for budget and policy priorities estimate that plan to add work requirements could result in up to 10 million people losing healthcare coverage. Some other possibilities are as follows. Shutdown of 125 air traffic control towers. Less food assistance for over a million women and children. Eliminate affordable housing assistance for over a million families. Impact over 6 million students who rely on Pell grants. Loss of access to child care for 100,000 children.

Kevin McCarthy and House Republicans want a 22% cut to veterans benefits. Sure..let's help more vets become homeless. They are not pro-military, pro-soldier, or pro-veteran.
VoteVets join 20 veteran organizations to protest House GOP budget cuts. At risk would be thousands of veterans unable to get appointments for healthcare. Increasing disability claims backlog. Veterans deserve the best healthcare possible.

Treasury Yellen warns that US might hit debt ceiling as early as June 1. Fiscally responsible government wouldn't refuse to pay past obligations already approved by congress. Spending debates or negotiations would be postponed to future budgets. Instead McCarthy plays a dangerous game pushing extreme MAGA policies threatening US economy that would never pass senate or white house. If GOP is really serious about reducing deficits, they should agree to increase tax revenue instead of nonsensical spending cuts. Under Biden, a record $1.7 trillion reduction in deficit was achieved in 2022. Historically, the debt ceiling has always been raised and absolutely must be done now.

ABC news/Washington post poll shows 58% of people think issues of debt payment and federal spending should be handled separately. 20% say debt should be paid only if Biden agrees to spending cuts. More people would blame republicans rather than democrats if US default.

National association of government employees has filed a lawsuit arguing the debt ceiling is unconstitutional. Seeking a court injunction to prevent government from defaulting on debt. Under 14th amendment, congress is obligated to pay bills. Fiscally responsible democrats already approve raising debt ceiling but reckless republicans refuse to do their job.
Most countries don't have problems with debt ceilings which are automatically raised. However a fixed debt ceiling puts US at constant risk of default. Economists consider US debt ceiling to be more of a nuisance instead of a constraint on government spending.

my politics doesn’t deny a thing and I put you on trial by force
and I’m not saying Biden’s a liar so don’t try to contort
your corpse into my fire , cuz you’re not wired for this war
this is my style and it’s not for your core
nor is it to be absorbed or worn by your dime for a dozen cohorts
so no more …..
of that drama …..
or that braggadocio that’s hiding under your prose that explodes like some lava…..
when you get livid ……
cuz you wish to escape
from the things that make you grimace that I bring to your face
so sit at the table but before you dig into the plate ……
pray and spit a little grace ……
cuz it may be the only thing to save you from a sinister fate
* God bless all of you and may we respectfully work together to resolve our differences and come to a happier resolution than the current state of affairs that is bludgeoning our souls into a slow and painful death …..
BACK PATTING and KISSING threads are like passing HAM SANDWICHES around over and over-wall

Unfortunately, "the majority" have it "wrong." This is the best opportunity to get the spend happy Dems to the table and ratchet back the runaway spending that is destroying this country. If $32Trillion in debt , and the resultant inflation due to the rampant increase in spending the last few years doesn't get your attention... then you are lost !
The level of spending vs. GDP in peacetime is unprecedented in our lifetime.... and yet some of you still don't "get it." And unfortunately, that includes "the majority."

Why weren't the DEMs in Congress paying attention to the debt limit when they hijacked this country with all this runaway spending the last couple of years? $6Trillion in new spending since Biden took over ? Really ?? And with no concern with the debt ceiling while all this spending was taking place ! Worrying about the "debt ceiling" now is comical.
Of course, spending cuts needs to be negotiated with an increase in the debt ceiling. It's sad so many of you think we can continue to spend into infinity.

So you really think this debt ceiling issue is because of spend happy DEMS and the GOP side wants to run a surplus budget?
It isnt like we have not seen this drama play out over and over, the GOP wants their goodie bag in return for doing what the other side wants, this is such a freaking snooze show it makes me sick.
I'd have all the respect in the world if the GOP were really trying to be fiscally responsible and came forward with a non-partisan budget that balanced and was realistic, that would mean it has pain for both parties and sacrifice by both. That is not the case nor will it ever be the case.
The rest of the saga is just a poorly constructed movie script meant to dramatize the eventuality we all know will come.

The House Republicans are the only ones that want to get this country back on sound fiscal footing. We need "multiple years" of a budget surplus to put a dent in our debt. How else does it happen !! House Republicans are the driving force behind Kevin McCarthy, and I am glad to see it happen. Someone has to... The Senate is a lost cause, both Republican & Democrat. Mitch McConnell is a joke and needs to be ousted for the RINO that he is.
Sacrifice "must" be shared by all of us. And we are all already paying a dear price via inflation. Everyone is getting hit by this "invisible tax." Not just those making over $400k like Biden likes to crow about and focuses his attention on taxing the rich. We are all already paying the price, and it will get much more painful in the years ahead if spending is not confronted soon.
This "business as usual" nonsense of raising the debt ceiling w/o any work on fiscal restraint is ridiculous !!! I, for one, am anxious to see how far Biden is willing not to negotiate and address the problem that got us here. Republicans need to frame the discussion in this matter if they were smart. Instead, Biden and the press are only too happy to frame the Republicans as "holding this country hostage."

Your side does not want to balance the budget by shared sacrifice, neither side keeps their jobs with balance budgets, your side wants your goodie bag and the DEM side wants their goodie bag, that is all there ever is on this topic.
The last time there was a surplus sniff most members here were in diapers and came with closing many military bases, slashing military spending and having higher tax rates on corps...that aint happening from your side and without similar changes it cant be lopsided to how you get balanced, BOTH have to slash budgets, not just social evil DEM goodie bag items.
