Baltimore at Pittsburgh (09/29/2008)

I've seen a lot of comments in this thread about how the BAL defense is the best in the league.  The facts don't necessarily support this at all.  I think the legend of their Superbowl defense of 7 years ago blurries today's reality.  They have played two games at home against two poor offensive teams this year.  Last year they were 22nd in scoring defense.  This defense is aging.

And I ask, what is the big difference between this year's MNF game and last year's when the Steelers drilled the Ravens 38-7?  BAL is starting a QB on the road for the first time.

Been sitting all of the games I've called right lately, but I definitely like PITT tonight...

-situational aspect... pitt looked weak on the road, but their offense always overperforms at home. 

-ya, the ravens hit and rush like the eagles, but having seen that and felt the pain of holding the ball too long, i have to think ben and tomlin will make adjustments

-2 comparable defenses (run stoppers, heavy hitting/high sacks)...

-QB comparison... big ben normally doesn't throw too many picks (mostly deflections in the games i've seen this year) and has experience (ie a ring) and big game play, where as flacco (as much as i like what he's done for them) has not had much asked of him, has thrown a couple picks, and has not played a road game in the NFL. 

I think the ravens will beat the steelers later in the year, but not here... steelers coming home off a loss that taught them and with a huge experience gap at QB and little difference in over all defense... too much points to the steelers here for me

wow, I hate to post this kind of stuff, but Why Bash people. If I'm not mistaken you told folks here with big confidence to Take Miami the Canes, and C.Mich Money Line in a Par. they were both like 7-8 point Fav.. and Lost SU? I remember that only because, I had NC M/L and the Points. Pit has been preparing for the blitz all week if we know anything about Ben he's not an idiot. He'll be ready to get rid of the ball quick to receivers who will be ready for the ball quick.. they all know the D is comin' in fast on their QB. Balt. should know there gonna need points on the board to beat a Pit. team that is what I believe to be a solid monday night record. Flacco needs to balls up. I'm takin' the 6 point teaser. Pit. even the Over at 28.5.

Anyone who is on the Steelers tonight may want to get off that train now... because I am taking them first half and I still haven't gotten my groove with the NFL this season yet.

Anyone know the record of first half dogs covering?  I went 3-0 on them yesterday oak, stl, kc.  Why do i feel 1st half dog bets are gold???  Continuing the trend...bal+3.5 at halftime.

I gotta be honest here guys.  The confidence in my picks is lacking a bit.  I took two games this weekend that make me sick that I took them to begin with.  Those would be Georgia (NCAAF) and Philly.  Philadelphia I took not even really thinking much about it.  Either way I am completely disgusted with myself.  Anyhow, as far as tonights game goes...don't look too far into the whole Rashard Mendenhall text thing firing up the Ravens.  Yeah it will fire them up, no doubt.  Fired up or not, Ravens have an awful offense and Flacco will be under constants pressure.  I expect a low scoring affair and like Pittsburgh minus the chalk and under.
