It's only July 4th, but early prediction says Saints by 14+.
In the Dome, Saints should be relatively uninjured unlike last season, same great offense, and a vastly upgraded defense.
Lions have signed some notable free agents and should have a fit Culpepper slinging the ball around. However, the Lions still have a huge deficit at offensive line and major gaps in defense. Plus, with a new coach comes a new scheme. A bunch of new faces playing with a new coach and playbook does not add up to rock-solid cohesion in Game One. On the other hand, the Saints announced last week (last week of June), that 75% of their 2009-2010 playbook has been mastered and that they could play a regular season game if need be.
UH OH.
Add in the advantage the Saints will have in their superb special teams and they should run out to two TD winners in this one.
But like I said, it's Independence Day and it's EARLY. Lots in between.
Good luck and Geaux Saints!

Saints ended the season going (6 - 0 - 1 ATS) and the Lions----well we know what went on there....Like Richard Dreyfus told Bill Murray in What About Bob... Baby Steps Bob. Take Baby Steps.
It might be a little closer than last years contest. I hope for the Lions sake.

I looked at what you said. That is crazy how many of the DD dogs covered last year in the first 5 weeks. What is even more amazing is how many won outright.

Don't write off the lions this year just because they were 0-16 last year. Yea I know New Orleans blasted them last year and can score at will. Det offense will be much better with QB play from Stafford and Culpepper than Orlavsky and Stanton. That alone with Calvin Johnson says Det will score some points this year. For this game I am betting the over and watching the scoreboard light up.

Saints-14? That is my team, but they are not the Patriots of 2 years ago and have a tendency to play down to weaker competition. Im probably gonna lay off this one guys. GLTA

The Lions were the worst in the league last year allowing 377 yards per game, 3rd to last in rushing and 2nd to last in forcing turnovers so this scenario is unlikely.

13 pt is too many to give. Detroit is hungry to get off to a decent start. not saying they will win, but they will compete. Stafford might surprise us (could he be this year's Matt Ryan?) He has a great receiver to go to... NO Defense will give up points.
NO 27 - Detroit 20. Over Under too close to call. GLA

This is 2009, not 2008.
The Saints defense is a whole 'nother beast this season.
