Just to throw out an interesting stat... Eli has a grand total of 2 TD passing in the red zone since Plax has been gone... The Eagles CBs can easily cover the remaining Giants Wrs in the red zone meaning they can stack the box. I think this will lead to the Giants settling for some FGs, keeping it close enough that Philly can get the cover.

Also this is the one game where the public is even heavier on the opening fav than  before... 67% of the money was on the Giants last time I checked and it's still a 4 point line. They books are begging people to take the Giants, a NY team getting too much public money as usual.

I am going with underdog teaser. SD matches up well with Pitt. Philly can cover. Go with +12 and +10

Reading the thread on this game I have no idea why there's such a large number of people who think that not only is New York the pick, but it should be a cakewalk game in which the Eagles shouldn't even be playing!

Last meeting, which is much more relevant than the first, saw the birds come out of Giants Stadium with a win in a game that wasn't even that close.  Anyone who watched saw the Eagles absolutely dominate the line on BOTH sides of the ball holding the Giants #1 ranked rushing attack to just 88 yards while Philly threw up 143 with Westbrook getting 131 on the ground.  The Giants get a TD in garbage time getting them back to within 6 with a whopping 15 seconds left.

The Giants haven't been playing all that well since Plax lost his mind losing three of their last 4.  I know the second half of the Minnesota game didn't mean anything but two weeks before they were beaten by Dallas 20-8 with a whole lot left to play for.  The same Dallas team Philadelphia embarassed by almost 40 when the game meant EVERYTHING to both teams.

    New York Passing:
Discounting the Minnesota game where Eli went 11/19 with 119, he has gone 48/89, 53.9%, 495 yards, 2 TD, 2 INT.  Not really that impressive for a team with the No. 1 seed and playing an opponent who slapped him in the mouth in his own building just one month ago.  Manning's two TD passes?  One four yard strike to Kevin Boss in the Carolina game.  The other was a one yard toss to Darcy Johnson with 0:15 left in the Philly game giving Johnson his 4th catch on the season.  The very definition of a garbage time TD.  I'm not sure of the exact stats, but how have QBs with numbers like that to end the season fared against a team on an absolute roll coming off the first round bye?

    New York Rushing:
Brandon Jacobs sat out three of the past seven Giant games and only got 10 & 11 carries in two of the other four.  There has to be some rust for a guy who has only gotten 66 carries total since the second week of November.  He does have a good average against Philadelphia in both games this season but the bad weather game in New York he only saw 10 carries and again, was the Giant leader in rushing with 52 yards. Take out the long run of 23 yards (big believer in this because he would be running 23 yards every play, you're not as good as your best run), and you're left with a much less impressive 9 carries and 29 yards.
I'm looking at Derrick Ward's numbers and still wondering why there's something to be worried about here.  4 times his YPC average has been above 7 yards.  Three of those four games were against Saint Louis, Cincinnati & Cleveland.  Three teams with 10 wins between them.  The other game was the Carloina game where he racked up 215 yards.  Of those 215 yards, 144 came on 4 plays of more than 20 yards.  The Eagles have given up 9 rush plays of greater than 20 yards all season.  Even if Ward does break one, he's not breaking two.

Neither of those summaries give the credit where it's deserved most.  The Giant offense is not going to have problems because of the way Manning is playing, Jacob's injury status, Ward's phantom stats or the crap reciever corps the Giants are going to run out there Sunday.  The Giant offense is going to have problems because of the way the Eagle defense has been playing.
As far ar stopping the rush offense of the Giants goes, Adrian Peterson is a hell of a lot better than both Jacobs and Ward got a whopping 83 yards on 20 carries.  Yank the 40 yard TD run and it's down to 19 for 43.  3 runs of 6 yards (16 for 35), 2 runs of 5 (14 for 20).  Nothing bigger than that.  And he's the best in the league.
And in all honesty does anyone think the Defensive Back crew of Brian Dawkins, Asante Samuel, Quintin Mikell and Sheldon Brown are nervous at all about having to cover Hixon, Toomer and the fake Steve Smith?!  The Birds can absolutely afford to stuff eight men in the box on first and second downs and then blitz the hell out of Manning on the third and longs.  Probably most 2nd and 9s too.

Bottom line is yeah the Giants are the #1 seed.  Yeah they're at home and has the week off.  Yeah they got 12 wins this year.  So what.  This Eagle team is playing with a lot of heart right now and since the Baltimore game where McNabb was benched they have been playing with something to prove.  5-1 since Baltimore with a score differential of 171-74.

Even if Ward does break one, he's not breaking two.

plenty of info good job. keep in mind the eagles came to town just after plax capped himself so there was plenty of media attention surrounding the giants as a whole. the giants mentally and emotionally were at a disadvantage from the start. there were questions on pierce as he was getting ready to surrender himself for questioning to the police. and there deep threat and all around go to guy was gone.  i think if any sub par team came to the meadowlands they would of beaten the giants in week 14. im leaning on the under so far.

    philly backers.....beware

when 2 div rivals play each other....the loser of the last meeting normally wins the next meeting over 60% of the time.  Guess who won the last meeting?  philly 20-14.

sumthin to think about.  anything can happen.  But the Giants are normally good at correcting their mistakes. Personally, there is no way I can lay my $$$$ on philly.

    My two cents:
The one guy that will have the most impact is Antonio Pierce in my opinion.  Granted he was in the superbowl last year but it think this is one of the biggest games of his career as far as needing to play well. He has continuously shown that he is a terrible LB in coverage ESPECIALLY the last time these teams meet.  Westbrook will be running that "Chip the end then run a 5 yard crossing pattern" and #58 will be there trying to run with him and its just not a favorable matchup for the Giants.  Its a bad matchup for just about any Linebacker but especially for pierce.
I expect the Giants to try and devise a way to limit the amount of plays like that.  I don't know how you actually devise that plan but I think they will be looking to limit that matchup as much as possible.
Other than that, my thoughts are that if the Giants have zero turnovers they win the game by double digits.

I think i know where you are coming from but I don't think people are realizing that unless philly gets a big play from Westbrook or Desean Jackson - or a big turnover they won't score touchdowns.   Giants can very well win this game 20-9.
I hope this pastes into the box well, its from a simple article on ESPN.com - the Philly offense is simply not very good, and inthe playoffs you want an offense that can methodically matriculate down the field and have time sustaining drives - they can't do that with their offense.

You really think the Eagles will be moving the ball in Giants Stadium when they could barely move it in the Metrodome against a Vikings defense that was missing Pat Williams and Darren Sharper? Here was Philly's drive chart in that game:

As a Giants fan i don't like coming on here saying they will murder anyone, but i truly believe with my head (and heart) that they win by double digits unless they have really bad turnovers.

Just a couple things to say Westbrook may be good but Jacobs and Manning are better.  Giants on their way to their back to back Superbowl victory.

Jackal I imagine you are a Yankees fan and think it is fun to just spend monopoly money to try to win a championship. No, you sound like a Muts fan with no heart for the game and you enjoy late season breakdowns. You know it's funny reading these blogs with no insight to the game b/c you have nothing to bring to the table worth reading. Why don't you look up Eli's QB rating vs the Eagles and you might want to reconsider all your trash talking & w/o Plaxico I think that hurts more than you are willing to admit b/c he has killed the Eagle's secodary b/c of his height. I am sure all the NY fans aren't thrilled they are playing Philly this week b/c they are the better team right now just as NY were last year when they went to the playoffs!

Anyway, I think if you look at this contest it should be a good game. Philly has got the edge with their momentum they have built and are for the most part healthy. My question is how healthy are Jacobs and Tuck? I keep hearing Tuck is injured more than hurt?? If that is true that will effect the pass rush for NY? Look at these teams on paper and you might want to start rethinking NY rolls tomorrow.

If Philly can stop Jacobs and Co. early I think they win the game. On the other hand if NY is able to run the ball as they wish Philly is in for a long day.

Will check on wind before the game but I am leaning toward the over.

Phily wasn't impressive last week, but the giants might start slow.
