God....my head is spinning trying to pick a winner on this game. I can see Peyton having a huge game, but I can see Lynch and Seattle controlling the clock and keeping Manning off the field. Before the AFC/NFC title games, the books had this game slated at Sea -2.5 along with the spreads on the other 3 possibilities. Seattle was going to open at -4 vs. New England while SF/Den was slated as a pick. So what does all this mean? The 5 point swing on the projected line and the current lines seems to suggest Seattle is the value play? But bet against Manning? ......just a tough game to cap no matter how much you like either side.

You're wrong.  They DID run the ball all the way early into the 4th quarter and then they completely had to abandon it.  Don't you guys check the play by plays before you post stuff like this.  Denver DID stop the run effectively but NE stuck with it until they were down big.  Having 3 points for over 3 quarters will make you change your game plan.  What idiot of a coach will keep pounding the ball with only 12 minutes left in the game and you're down more than 2 scores?

This could very well be Seattle's problem come Sunday seeing how weather won't be a big factor anymore.  You give Manning a lead and he'll keep it on you.  Then they're gonna have to rely on Wilson to beat them thru the air, which is what this team was not built for.  Sadly not something I'd put money on.

Also did you see that Denver also hold a pretty decent San Diego run game to almost nothing?  Woodhead had more yards than Matthews did.  He had 30, a big fat 30 yards total for the game.  When was the last time you heard that San Diego had so little yards this year?  Matthews also didn't have a "mediocre" season either at over 1200+ yards. 

What about holding 2 HIGH scoring offenses to 3 or less points for over 3 quarters each?  No one talks about Denver's defense.  Has Seattle boasted any impressive stats like that during the playoffs?  They had the first round bye and homefield too.  But honestly who the hell has been more impressive?  NOT Seattle and their amazing defense.  For God's sake, they weren't ranked #1 in defense against a  "mediocre" SF offense in the playoffs while Denver shut down 2 teams forcing them to score ONLY in the 4th quarter when the game was already out of reach.  Actually they didn't even have the lead and had to come back at the end.  If it wasn't for an penalty against SF, that game could've easily ended up as SF the winner.  SF shot themselves in the foot that game and anyone can see that.  Both teams played sloppier than sloppy Joes.  But 3 total points between 2 teams for 6 quarters against 2 of the top 10 offenses in the league.  Not impressive huh?

Ummm...It's pretty simple.  They're number 1 in offense so they'd be removed from the equation.  Obviously Denver's offense doesn't play their defense in a real game.  So that would technically leave #2-11 as being the next "top 10".  So they beat 5 opponents that are ranked anywhere between #2-11.  

What's so difficult to understand?

I don't see this being a problem at all.  The real question will be, can Seattle hold Denver to under 28 points?  I can see Denver taking the lead like usual, (too bad I didn't bet on this proposition on every game, I'd be making some coin on those bets), taking long on every drive while stopping Seattle enough times that they can't keep up and slowly losing sight of the game and eventually having it become out of reach.  Denver will stop Seattle from scoring more times than Seattle can stop Denver from scoring.

Seattle played mostly "medicore" offenses that had good defenses.  Look at how many good offenses they've played compared to Denver.  You have to score to win games.  You defense can typically only slow down an offense and they've only shut out 1 team this year, and sadly it's the other Manning.  That was no surprise to anyone, probably to even Eli himself.  Other than that they haven't been able to shut out anyone.  You think they're gonna shut out Denver?  I'd put money on the chances of Denver being able to shut out Seattle before Seattle can shut out Denver.

No where did you say they played the 11th ranked offense in your post, it made no sense.  

Those 5 teams include Philly when they were still starting Vick, Washington who only found themselves in the top 10 in YPG b/c they were playing from behind all the time and SD who they also lost to once at home.

I don't think Denver's defense has really improved much from earlier in the year when they were just dropping 50 to win games.  In December, they gave up 28 to KC & Tenn each, 27 to SD (at home) and 13 & 14 to two scrub teams in Houston and Oakland, respectively.  

Now in the playoffs, they've given up a lot fewer points, but look at the match-ups/circumstances.  SD was coming in with a hobbled #1 RB (Mathews) and NE was just not the same team without Gronk.  NE was still able to look good on offense vs some bad teams defensively (IMO) w/out him (i.e. a Colts team that gave up 40+ to Alex Smith and KC).  

I think Seattle even though they have struggled on offense lately will be able to score 28-35 points on this Denver defense.  Seattle has played a lot of defenses way better than this Denver D.  

How many times has a team scored more than 28 on Seattle this year?  1 time, at Indy...which includes a blocked FG returned for a TD.  They've proven they can shutdown high profile offenses (New Orleans comes to mind first).

I see an early lead by Seattle being erased with a close win by the Hawks late.

Teasers are the way to go here. Bookies worst nightmare when you hit both sides like last week. (Except the NE/Den total)

I guess we will see in about 52 hours.

Denver plays in a soft division and soft conference, they are about to go up against the fastest defense and toughest run game they've seen.  I'll put my chips in on that everytime.

The only thing that is soft the cream cheese and the city of Phonydelphia.  That city thinks Rocky Balboa is real.  I guess when he is the only champion you have ever had, then you just gotta roll with it.  Have fun running those step while I'm cashing tickets.

Pando, you might want to recount the playoff teams that Denver and Seattle played during regular season again.

It looks like Denver played 7 teams going 4-3 and ATS 4-3 while Seattle also played 7 teams going 4-3 and ATS 5-2. Pretty even.

Colin Cowherd (26-23), Ron Jaworski (27-24), SportsNetwork (24-20) all picked Denver.  I know QuadYeah, Sammy Ace, and Dr. Dogs all were favoring Denver also.  And respect all their picks which is why I'm still contemplating on what to do.

This Super Bowl is evenly matched and tough to call.  The winnings from my Wildcard games and Conference Championship were bigger plays for me and will go easy on the Super Bowl.  I am leaning slightly to Seattle and the OVER (probably more on the over) on this game but still have not decided.  I will post again when I finalize my picks.

Wow, how long did it take you to come up with that one...might as well work in snow balls thrown at santa while you're at it.  

One thing Denver and Seattle both do well is beat the piss out of the VaGiants.  Ginas Stadium will be the mecca of overrated QBs on Sunday with all the Mannings in the building.

With the exception of the Chinese New Year's indicating it is the year of the Horse, My take is that all factors favor the Seahawks. I am mixed on the total though. My mind says Under but my hunch is Over....Good Luck to all...
