WHAT? An equally talented defense. What have you been smoking? Pittsburgh almost (came up 55 rush yards allowed short) did something last year that hadn't been done since the 1991 Eagles (lead the league in fewest yards allowed overall, vs. the run, and vs. the pass). They also led the league in fewest points allowed last year too. Tennessee has a solid defense, but they just lost Haynesworth to free agency. He was easily their best defensive player last year because he commands double and sometimes triple teams. They are nowhere near Pittsburgh when it comes to defense. The only team that does is Baltimore. And I just threw up a little typing that.

I think last years game between these teams is a little misleading. The Titans forced 5 fumbles (recovered two) and had two interceptions in that game which basically was the difference. They didn't run the ball that well, 31 carries-117 yards, good for an average of 3.8 yards per attempt. And I don't think the Titans will be able to control the clock in this game. In fact they didn't even control the clock in last year's game and the Steelers D should be even better this year. Plus that game was played in Tennessee. This game is in Pittsburgh, it's the first game of the year, the Steelers are coming off a Super Bowl win, and they're probably still a little pissed about losing to the Titans last year and watching them stomp, spit and blow their nose on the terrible towel.
As for Kerry Collins I wouldn't say he rarely makes mistakes. For his career he almost has a 50:50 td-int ratio (186-179) and his career passer rating is only 73.8. In 6 of the 15 years he's played he's thrown more interceptions than touchdowns. Last year was one of the top 3 seasons of his career and it wasn't even that good of a year (12 td's, 7 int's, 2,676 yards, 58.3% completion rate and a qb rating of 80.2).
And I don't know why you think Ben was out much of the preseason. He missed one game. But actually played more than expected in the others, especially when Tomlin's main goal was to keep the starters healthy throughout the preseason.
STEELERS & OVER FOR ME
I think the Titans and Kerry Collins fall off a little bit this year. It happens every year when a team that was good one year has a let down year the next and vice versa. The Titans are my choice for being the team that takes a step back this year.
hmmm..i could be wrong but didn't ben sit out the first two preseason game due to a minor injury??
as for pit d being better than last year, we'll have to see.. they maybe better due to another year expereince.. but they are basically fielding the same team... as is the titans d.. if you look back, haynesworth actually missed that game, and Tn was still about to put pressure on ben and force those fumbles... jones, who replaced haynesworth, actually played in that game and force 3 of those turnovers.. plus you can actually look at the turnovers in 2 ways.. 1 those turn overs basically shorten the field for both teams.. or 2. those turn over cost them points... in my opinion, it was the former stied of the latter.. so taking that out of the equation do they really score those points.. but who knows...
as for collins, you really can't compare his stats when he was starting b4 in oakland, ny and now... in oakland, and ny he was expected to win games with his arm.. in TN he expected to manage the game..
as far as i see, both them will pound the ball.. it will come down to a battle of the trenches.. i see it farely even when TN got the ball.. but when pits has the ball, TN dline has the upper hand... rememeber that the steelers o line was one of the worst last year.. and ben was running for is life alot of the time.. its basically the same line back this year.. the oline gave up 49 sacks last year compare to the 12 tn oline gave up...
all in all.. it should be a very defensive game here... defence with championship and that what these two teams are built on... of course all this is one man opinion... and i wish you all the best on you plays.. as for me.. i'm staying on the under here.. and relying on the strength of these two teams, their defence, to keep things close.. and low..
