there's some insight!
 
here's a clue man... his last name is Manning!
 
he is already a top 5 QB, and will be top 3 before long...
 
the more i keep hearing all the "geniuses" tell us about the SB hangover and how Eli will come back to earth, the more i expect the Giants to shock people and get to the SB again... i definitely think they will be playing with an attitude this year, and are better than what most people want to believe... they are still one of the teams to beat in the NFC, until proven otherwise...

Just something to ponder
Favorites are just 31-42-7 ATS (42 percent) in the opening week over the past five NFL seasons (Coincidentally, home teams hold the same ATS record as noted above). This means that underdogs bark at a 58 percent clip. Mid-range favorites performed the worst among our specified price ranges. In particular, favorites priced between –3 1/2 and –6 1/2 are only 8-15 ATS (35 percent) during this time.
The same basic pattern holds true when looking at home favorites (road favorites gravitate towards a 50 percent mean). Home favorites indeed are just 21-32-3 ATS (40 percent) in the first week of NFL action since 1999. Again, mid-range favorites are similarly the poorest performers when we look at home teams. Consider that home teams priced between –3 1/2 and –6 1/2 have stumbled to a 6-13 ATS (32 percent) mark in Week 1 games the past five seasons.
Conclusion: Like home teams, favorites and particularly mid-range favorites are generally overvalued in Week 1.
Playoff teams
It might surprise you to learn that playoff teams from the prior year versus non-playoff teams from the prior year are a mere 16-23-3 (41 percent) ATS in NFL Week 1 games over the past five seasons. Home teams which made the playoffs versus teams which did not make the playoffs from the prior season drop to a meager 7-14-1 ATS (33 percent) during this time

Bottom line, what i got from it isn't about the past of the teams as much as how vegas more so sets lines in the NFL, based on the bettors perception, more then the teams themselves, so they often over value teams they know the public will pound because of how the public views them from the prvious year & preseason.
So history plays a big part on how vegas sets the lines. That's all.

The more I look the more I like the Redskins.  You will see the Redskins team that played well in the first three preseason games here and not the team that played bad like the last two.  Zorn needs the team to come out of the gate strong and thats what they will do here.  I can see the final score here being 24-21 with the Giants winning a tough one.  Washington covers here however.

(i believe you meant Skins + 3.5)

I think that Zorn is going to mix it up and get the giants def playing on their heels.  Once he has that going for him the run game is going to be there and that gives potential for some big plays with Portis and even some short passes to those dynamic WR's.

I grabbed this game at + 4.5 and bought a half point.

Good relavent week one stats 

After the poor preseason this skins' newly installed west coast offense is due to stall, but not before keeping the clock running with short passes and focus on portis.  Defenses are always pumped for opening day and always bring their A game against super bowl champs.  This tells me that the game will be a tight defensive battle with it coming down to field goals.  I would not bet there is a big lead by either team towards the end of the game.

Hello All
 
I just registered with covers however I have visited this site several times in the previous 2 seasons.
Since this is my 1st post I figured why not use it on the 1st game of the NFL regular season...Its about time Football got here
 
Washington Redskins @ New York Giants(-4 & 41.5)
My early lean was to take the Skins
But my gut keeps tellin me the Under is a solid bet
 
I believe this will be a grind it out game, with both teams
Controlling the clock & calling very conservative plays
I unit on the game under (and possibly under 1h as well)
