Picks were jumping off the page for me today. Hopefully that's a good thing!!!
Rickie Fowler ov Matsuyama
This is the time of year where Fowler plays well. Every year in the Florida swing, Rickie comes alive, and sure enough his last 3 tournaments he’s finished 4th, 1st and 16th. Matsuyama was playing great early in the season, but he’s cooled off since his win. He has a missed cut and a 25th place finish since then though. Best part about this play is Fowler is at plus money right now.
Brandt Snedeker ov Paul Casey
In his last 4 tournaments, Snedeker has 3 top 10 finishes, and a missed cut. So it really depends on which Snedeker is going to show up. I think we get the good Snedeker this week…he has 2 top 13 finishes in the last 3 years at this tourney. Paul Casey is consistent, but he doesn’t have a high ceiling so far this season. No top 10 finishes the last 8 tournaments, so I think Snedeker has the higher ceiling, and I think the good Snedeker shows up this week.
Wesley Bryan ov Zach Johnson
When you get a guy who’s playing as good as Wesley Bryan is, you just gotta ride him. Three straight top 7 finishes. Zach has been ok, but his last 2 tourneys he’s finished 58th, and 27th. Zach has played well at this tourney the two previous years, but I’m riding Wesley Bryan until he cools off.
Jason Kokrak ov Bubba Watson
Bubba’s game is really struggling, and it’s mostly his irons. Three out of the last 4 tourneys he’s missed the cut or he withdrew. The other tournament he finished 38th. Jason Kokrak has 3 straight made cuts including two top 25 finishes. Kokrak also has three straight top 20 finishes at this tourney including two top 6 finishes.
Tyrell Hatton ov Francesco Molinari
I wanted to bet on Molinari this week cause I think he’s undervalued, but this matchup is not what I expected from the books, and I can’t ignore the numbers. Tyrell Hatton has 3 straight top 10 finishes, while Molinari doesn’t have any top 10 finishes. Molinari is a top 20 machine…but Hatton is a top 10 machine.
Graham Delaet ov Emiliano Grillo
Cashed a bet last week with Delaet…going back to the well again here. Delaet has 4 straight top 22 finishes, two of those finishes are top 10. He’s really in the groove where as Grillo doesn’t have a finish better than 33rd this season. Not sure what’s going on with Grillo, but he’s fade material in this matchup.
Pat Perez ov Kevin Chappell
I don’t get this matchup at all, but I’ll take it!!! Kevin Chappell’s best finish this year is 48th. He also has a 55th, a 78th, and 2 missed cuts. Take away the random withdraw from Perez, and he doesn’t have a finish worse than 38th. Perez is the better golfer in this matchup right now, and it’s not even close.
