I was at a bar in Alaska.
There were two fool from Texas bragging about how everything in Texas was bigger and better than the rest of the country. Finally this Alaskan at the end of the bar was fed up with the two Texans and he turned to them and said..... If you two fool don't quit bragging about how everything is bigger and better in Texas........ We are going to cut our state in half and you will be the third largest state.

Prince Tour is awesome if you are a Prince fan. I live not too far from Paisley Park.
Actually thinking of building a new house on some of Prince's land. He was the largest land owner in Carver county. There are over 10,000 lakes and the Mississippi doesnt start in Minneapolis. Starts in northern Minnesota at Lake Itasca. |

I have friends coming into town and we are going to the game or I would host

And with that, before you run off and fill it out with reckless abandonment, a recent, historical, statistical view into how the brackets have played out over the last 10 years. Since 2007, there have been 40 Final Four teams - 10 years of tournaments, four teams make the Final Four each year; 10 * 4 =40. If you're needing help with this math, you might want to turn away... and you'll likely win your bracket. Sorry for the tangent.. Of the 40 Final Four teams over the last 10 years, 36 of them have been in both the top 40 for offensive and defensive efficiency and/or be ranked # 1 in one of those categories - the latter happened once with Louisville in 2012 when they ranked 1 in defensive efficiency. You're probably thinking, 'big deal, top 40, that's likely more than half of the field of 68'. Well, it's not, only 20 teams in this years field rank in the top 40 for both offensive and defensive efficiency and one team who is ranked 1st, but not top 40 for both. More on the teams in a bit.. 36 out of 40, that's 90% of the Final Four teams in the last 10 years have been in the top 40. Dialing it down even further, 30 (75%) of the Final Four participants over the last 10 years have been in the top 30 for offensive and defensive efficiency. The 90% is a bit overwhelming, but you'll see most of the teams are higher seeded, so there is some correlation to the success rate. What I found most interesting is that over the last 10 years, the team who cut down the nets in the end, 9 of them were in the top 25 for offensive and defensive efficiency - the lone wolf was the Shabazz Napier-led Connecticut team in 2014 . And, in fact, 8 of them were in the top 20. Again, you're probably thinking all of the top seeds fall within the top 20 this season, but actually there are only 3 teams in the top 20 for both efficiency ratings and only 9 in the top 25. Now, obviously, past performance is no indication of future results, but just passing along some data I uncovered in the lab. The beauty of statistics is that there is randomness, or Napierness in this case, and there is always outliers to the norm. Maybe this year we get another outlier, but as sample size grows, stats don't lie. Don't rip up the bracket you worked so hard to complete, but maybe look to this data set when you're considering who to bet on game to game. And now the teams who qualify this season.. Top 40 offensive & defensive efficiency Villanova UNC Duke Kansas Gonzaga SMU Kentucky Saint Mary's Oregon Arizona Baylor Louisville Purdue Florida State West Virginia Florida Creighton Cincinnati Virginia Wisconsin Top 25 offensive & defensive efficiency Villanova UNC Gonzaga Kentucky Oregon Baylor Louisville Purdue Florida State Top 20 offensive & defensive efficiency Villanova Gonzaga Kentucky Oh and the team who ranked 1st in offensive efficiency, but was outside the top of the defensive rankings.... Oklahoma State. Maybe they have a Louisville-esque run in them. The top ranked team for offensive efficiency has made the Final Four 7 out of the last 10 tournaments. More to come on my bracket thoughts... This was helpful last year.

Here is where you are wrong. The line is based on Villanova's reputation.....defending national champion.
In terms of schedule....they both play in the Big East and Marquette has the better record. They are also beating their opponents on the road. Villanova isn't beating their opponents on the road. Good luck naming a quality resume win for Villanova at home or on the road. Best team they beat was Florida State by 3. Losses to Michigan, Kansas and Furman in the top 25 (not many times you would count losing to Furman playing a quality team....but they are ranked in the top 25). Marquette beat Kansas State, Wisconsin and Buffalo. Lost to Kansas before their injuries. Also had a win over a decent Louisville team in non conference. Offensively Villanova ranks above 100 in every stat nationally. (181 in field goal percentage) Read that again. Defensively rebounds per game they rank 37 but opponents field goal percentage they rank 188th. When does the leopard change his spots....in game 29 of the season? Marquette on the other hand ranks 65th in offense field goal percentage and 28th in defense field goal percentage. Have you seen Marcus Howard play? When the guy is on...he is lights out. His 3 point field goal percentage in college is better than Steph Curry in the pro's. Same with his free throw percentage. |

Not a regular in the college basketball forum but I like a game tonight I watch almost every game that Marquette plays. Last year they won by outscoring their opponent. This year they can outscore them and they play much better defense. Theo John has added a defensive presence in the middle and i believe leads the big east in blocks. Sacar Anim has become a very good defender and doesn't shoot much but seems to make the shots he takes. Those two are the role players in the starting line up. I am on the record in past about talking about the three H's for Marquette. Hauser, Hauser and Howard. Start with Howard. One of the most exciting players in college basketball. Can drive to the hoop and once he passes the half court line he is in range. Joey Hauser is a freshman and you can tell how well coached he is growing up. Shots the ball well and plays fundamental basketball. I watch allot of basketball and I personally think Sam Hauser is the most complete player in college basketball. By complete I mean he can dribble, play defense, rebound and shoot. He doesn't take dumb fouls and never seems to get rattled during the game. His demeanor always seems cool. If Marquette gets the lead it will be difficult for Villanova to come back. Hauser & Howard both shoot free throws better than Steph Curry. I have watched Villanova play a couple of games recently and they don't have the it factor of years past. I rode them last year all the way to the championship. Something is missing this year. The got out early against Xavier and then folded like a cheap suit. They are not playing good basketball at all. They have lost 4 of 5 (all 4 losses on the road). They have a good home record but none of the home wins were against a quality team. They rely on the 3 for their offense and Marquette both shoots and the defends the 3 better. In the first meeting Marquette won at home by one and could have lost the game. Villanova had the last shot. Marquette did not shoot very well but still had a fairly good lead and was on the verge of blowing out Villanova. A couple of bad shots and Villanova makes resulted in a victory of only one point. Also in that game Theo John played only 16 minutes and fouled out. The Hauser brothers were 2 for 10 from the field for 4 points. That wont happen again tonight. I was expecting a line of 1.5 to 2 and it is 5. I am on Marquette and also Marquette on the moneyline +180. GL Northern Star

My program picks this and I am going to ride the over a few games on Minnesota until the line adjusts. MN Over 115 FH is 45-20 to over. Goes well with the coach change thinking I have with new coach Saunders wanting faster tempo game. Program shows a lower scoring second half so I am playing the first half today. Bonus Pick nothing to do with NBA Totals program which has three plays posted and one is in one of the best performing categories with a record of 44-25 last 9 years.
Biggest thing to effect a team's scoring is coach. MN has new coach that offense is more important than defense. Thib's seem to want a slow game and play defense. TV reports at practice a faster tempo for Minnesota. His dad Flip was not big on defense as a coach and I am expecting the same from his son. I would say it it worth watching MN over for the next few games until the line adjusts if they come out and play a faster tempo game.
MN Over 228.5
Line has moved up 5 points since I played last night and parlayed it with Clemson on the moneyline.
