In a startling attack on the game's administrators, Hayne accused the NRL of not caring about its star players and said he could not rule out following the path of league deserters Sonny Bill Williams and Karmichael Hunt when his contract expires in 2014.

"I could be earning a couple of million somewhere else."
Becasue half a million isn't enough to pay the bills. Come and slum it with the peasants working 40 hours a week on minimum wage you little bitch

As Hayne made his position known in Melbourne, his Kangaroos teammates were on the verge of revolt, claiming their match payments for the Anzac Test were embarrassing.
Each player will receive $6000 for taking part in the battle with New Zealand at AMMI Park.
More than one months pay for a lot of ordinary people is not enough for me to represent my country

"We are just given a schedule and told what to do. I hope something can be done. I have family coming down and they have to pay for their tickets.
My family have to pay for their own tickets
I only get four free tickets
I'm only on $500k and I'm only getting $6k to play this game
I guess they can't come, times are tough

Alot of players are speaking out........
I see where they are coming from.......NRL out rates AFL and Union by a fair margin yet they are the poorest paid...

Must admit I haven't looked all that deeply into this one yet, but I'm very much on the players' side here.
These guys work as hard if not harder than probably any professional sports athletes in the world to play arguably the most physically demanding sport in the world. Until recently, imo they were content to wear what I mentioned above as a kind of 'badge of honour' because just being a RL player was in itself, something to be hugely revered.
But now these guys, who are fitter, bigger, faster, stronger and more skillful than ever, look around and see guys earning far bigger salaries in other codes and they start to wonder if they're really getting what they're worth in RL ?
And other codes have cottoned onto the potential goldmine that exists in the RL talent pool. They see the extraordinary athleticism and the strength and the skill that exists in RL and they want it in theirs. So they offer top dollar to the cream of the RL crop.
So I can't blame these RL lads for seemingly wanting to hold the game / the comp / their clubs ect to ransom to an extent. They bust their asses to be what they are and unlike "normal" people they only have a limited shelf life in their profession.
Why shouldn't RL players be able to earn every dollar and more than what they're worth ? Other athletes in other sports do ?
This is a major wake-up call for the slow and sleepy hierarchy that's been running RL to this point. They need to get with the times or else the players will by leaving in their droves to get paid their market value

Disgaree. They get paid handsomely for playing a game that they love. That is all it is, a game. Families pay ridiculous prices to take their kids to watch these guys play. Why not hike up ticket prices to subsidise our players? Play in an empty stadium, but get paid what you're worth.
If they want to leave to earn 'market value', then leave. Don't give me the 'he earns X dollars more than me in another code' shit. Harry Kewell was getting more than $200k a week when he signed for Liverpool, why doesn't Jarryd go and pay in the EPL?
The pie is only so big. Whilst the cap has massive shortcomings, let's not forget that it is there to stop clubs going broke, which they would without a doubt if there was no cap.
Nobody is stopping them from leaving. Go and play AFL, Rugby, Tennis, Golf who gives a fuck. Better yet, retire at 22 so as not to have to bust your arse and work so hard. Go and be a brickies labourer, which is all half of them would amount to if they weren't talented at a game.
Did the game fall over when SBW left? No. Gasnier? No. Will Folau be the end of league? No. There will always be a kid with a dream who would be fucking thankful to earn $200k to play a game that he loves.
Yes the last TV deal was poorly handled. Yes Gallop should have gone long ago. Yes the next deal will be vitally important to the future of the game. But right now it is what it is.

I know. Let's merge all the clubs, have 8 clubs with a $10 million cap. That'll keep our stars in the game. The 200 best players in the land get close to what they are worth.
The fans will understand.

If we say reduced it to 10 teams........and raised the cap to near $10 mill.
I will assure we wont have to endure a super saturday where 2 or 3 out of 3 games is over before half time.....
The last 4 super saturdays have been nothing short of a farce.....
The talent is NOT evenly distributed......It is simply thinned out.
When a team gets an injury, the team shits itself.
Is it possible that Kimmorley could be the next 1/2 for NSW this year.......I am a hard doggies fan, but gees, it just goes to show that we have alot of serious issues in our game.

But now these guys, who are fitter, bigger, faster, stronger and more skillful than ever,
They could raise the cap and tweak the game to keep so many from going overseas or switching codes, and it would help some. But until the players and the NRL understand that they have to grow the sport you will ALWAYS have these issues and the bitching is useless until something is done about it. And so very few seem to get it, when it comes to the big picture.

It's all relative. I heard Paul Kent say last night (so I can't verify whether it's true or not) that NRL players get 24% of the pie, compared to AFL players who get about 19%.
If you look at the cap, it's about 43% of that figure you quote, or about 35% if you take the players cut to be the grants that clubs are given.
Either way, Hayne just sounds like a little bitch.
