This will probably be my swansong on covers, I've decided it'll be nice to go out on the world cup, starts in under 2 weeks on November 20th, we've got a lot to analyse (sic) and discuss, (if there's still some decent folk in this forum).
5, I saw that Italia 90 episode, very nostalgic, looking forward to the second one.
oh and if anyone wants to back any of these to win it all : USA, Wales, Ghana, Cameroon, Qatar, Morocco, Japan, South Korea, Canada, Australia, Iran, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia and Costa Rica, pm me, I will lay you a price better than any book will offer.

Over 6500 migrant workers have died building the stadiums in Qatar, think about that number for a second and those who didn't die lived in squalor while working in brutal heat and were paid a pittance, there should be players wearing black armbands and having a minutes silence before every match, f*ck Qatar and F*ck FIFA, its sad the beautiful game is run by such corrupt, greedy administrators, rant over.

lot of teams are waiting to the last moment to announce squads so i'll look at Golden boot.
1st thing first, make sure your scorer plays for a team that will a) play in a relatively easy group and b) go far in the tournament.
Few are easy fades for me :
Kane is Fav, England are on a downer after the last few years and harry will be tired after playing just about every minute for tottenham.
Messi, Benzema and Ronaldo are past their prime, Neymar plays a bit too deep nowadays.
Lukaku has lost his way in the last couple of years since his spat with Chelsea, you know this is not that competitive if Memphis (man u reject ) depay comes next in the betting.
This leaves Mbappe who is the perfect age and in the peak of his career to win the spoils, france should go far again and at 10/1, he's a good bet.
There are other players you can back at fancy odds for a place as normally 6 is all you need to at least get a tie. And so Uruguay's Darwin Nunez at 50/1 and Serbia's Mitrovic at 66/1 are good "each way" plays.

Holland are obvious faves, prefer the obnoxious Van Gaal as international, rather than club coach, theyve missed 2 world cups so have big motivation to do well here. Van Dijk anchors that backline, as usual Ajax spine running thru the team, little weak up front but should win this group, one for parlays.
I fade african teams in general, they have very limited time playing as a unit, facilities for national teams are hopelessly underfunded which is important in today's world of sport science and they play their african *waste of time* nations cup during domestic european seasons which doesnt benefit anyone. There has never been an african team winning the world cup and I don't see one in my lifetime.
Saying all that Senegal should be best african team, they are AFCON champions, an experienced manager, have a good keeper in mendy and defense is good, midfield a little lightweight, sane is the key upfront but picked up an injury. on paper should come 2nd.
It used to be you automatically fade the weaker South american teams playing outside their continent but I dont have a lot of faith in ecuador, real mishmash of average players, CONMEBOL is not as competitive as it used to be, back them to finish bottom at 3/1 because I like Qatar to use homefield advantage to at least get 3rd place, they played 10 European friendlies, won the 2019 Asian Cup, performed well at the 2019 Copa América and reached the semi-finals of the 2021 Gold Cup. I remember south korea in 2002 getting very dodgy refereeing decisions, yes there is VAR these days but lets not forget why they're playing here in f"king november.
1/2/3/4 of Holland, Senegal, Qatar, Ecuador pays 15/2, Qatar at 4/1 to advance looks tempting also.
Group B next

Bollox-thanks for the write-ups--liking the value of Qatar to advance for reasons you mentioned and Holland to win as parlay fodder! Qatar +0.5 looks good in the opener...cheers!

Group B and when this group was drawn, you wouldnt think twice about England not winning convincingly, Semi finalists 4 years ago, euro finalists 2 years ago but since then, "relegated" from the europa league. Anyone who watches the EPL will know the quality they have but by the same token, only Bellingham plays his football overseas and that will always undermine the england national team.
who will get 2nd, if FIFA rankings are to be believed, Wales, Iran and USA are all within 5 spots of each other. the US squad is young and probably the pick of these 3 teams. But don't underestimate Iran who are wrongly priced as big outsiders here, this is their neck of the woods and this is their 3rd successive world cup, 16 of the squad played in russia 4 years ago.
Tricky to play this group, Iran to finish 3rd pays 9/4, wales to finish bottom pays 4/1 with one book which is far too big. I wonder what the price would be if Bale wasn't in the squad, I think, that MLS final, notwithstanding, he's way past his prime and apart from him, there's quite a few lower league english players in this weak looking welsh squad.
England/USA/Iran/Wales pays 13/2.
Group C tomorrow

Group C and Argentina are nailed on here, El Tri and Poland are tied for 2nd in the betting and I really can't split them either, this'll be Lewandowski's swansong, Mexico look thin upfront with jesus corona having to withdraw, what I can tell you is that saudi arabia will finish bottom, i'll take the under when mexico play poland and back the other 3 teams on the handicap when they play the saudis.
So La Albiceleste in parlays and saudis in finishing bottom parlays

And this should be very straightforward, France 1 Denmark 2, and they both thrash the Aussies and The Tunisians who both have average squads with older players, straight forecast pays even money, no idea who finishes bottom. France for me have the best european squad even missing kante and pogba.
Group E similar to D, 2 top teams and 2 bottom feeders. Germany didnt get out of the group stages in 2018, are missing Werner and Reus, Spain havent replaced the golden generation of 10 years ago, Japan will play some pretty football but are booked for 3rd and costa rica will come bottom.
a 1/2/3/4 of Germany/spain/japan/costa rica pays 3/1 and spain/gers/japs/ticos also pays 3/1, pays evens if you back both and I can't split the top 2 here.

Group F and was Belgium's best chance 4 years ago, Hazard definitely isn;t the player he was but De Bruyne is pound for pound the best midfielder in the world.
Croatia's team is creaking now, Modric and Perisic's minutes will be closely monitored, Morocco and Canada make up the numbers and I'm sorry its very chalky but can only see the favs advancing, Belgium Croatia straight forecast pays 6/4.
Great that canada got here but too many MLS players in their squad, Morocco are the 2nd best team in africa and they'll be used to these conditions, Ziyech and En-Nesyri will get them 3rd. Canada to finish bottom is evens, pretty fair, Belgium/Croatia/Morocco/canada pays 4/1.

You can't really back a team to be the worst team at the world cup as there'll be 8 teams finishing bottom of their group but lowest scoring team often pays, I'm looking at saudi arabia at 8/1 who have an entirely domestic based squad and i just can't see them scoring against tight defensive minded teams like poland and mexico,
the Saudis are also a good bet to lose all their group matches at 2/1
Australia are also a play at 14/1 to be lowest scorers, their forwards play in scotland or in the desperately weak A league and they wont score against france or denmark.
