That Spain goal was so big.
Now France will try tomorrow - I was really considering the possibility that France was going to tank it tomorrow.

Good day - I will take it.
That Ireland loss will sting - but how can I complain with that last Spain goal that I still think BOTH guys were offside?

Wouldn't Spain have won the group regardless (had the game ended 0-0)? All the goal did was allow Italy to sneak in as far as I can tell.
Fwiw I also thought that was offside, was stunned it counted.

Pretty sure Italy would have won the group, and Spain would have come in 2nd.
I think it would have worked like this: Croatia, Italy, and Spain would all be tied - and they all tied head to head. But Italy would win the group on goals scored between the 3 teams - because they scored 2 goals when Croatia and Spain only scored 1 in games involving those 3 teams.
Then they would go to overall goal differential to decide second place between Spain and Croatia - and because Spain beat Ireland worse than Croatia did - Spain would get second.
But yes - I have replayed the goal several times - and BOTH players were offside IMO. I literally waited at least 30 seconds to even celebrate - I couldnt believe they were walking back to the center circle to kick off....

Cake - if you watch again - Navas was clearly offside on the FIRST pass. Yes, the pass did not come to him - but he was offside and he could have been contrued as an integral part of that play. The second pass seemed to have been very close to even - but Im not sure you can tell from the camera angle.
Not to mention that it seemed the arm and shoulder of Iniesta was off on the first pass.
Very close stuff.

Ahhhh then yes, that WAS a huge goal. Now let's go France
My reaction to that goal was probably at least as delayed as yours. Watching the game with no sound probably made it even more unbelievable.

Upcoming:
23. France / Sweden: My biggest fear as the minutes ticked off in the Spain / Croatia game today was that Spain was going to come in 2nd, and somehow France wouldnt put a full effort in tomorrow to avoid Spain in the quarters. But alas - the soccer gods smiled on everyone who needs France to win in the form of a silly goal that could have easily been offside.
Sweden is cooked. What more can I say about it? Their defense has been horrendous and I have absolutely no evidence to suggest that something is going to change. They have been absotely thrashed in both games - against some really average offensive opposition. Their one advantage is in the air - on set pieces and corners - but I expect France to be well aware of this and take it away.
Ribbery should have an absolute field day against a slow clumsy defense. The ball will go through him - and he will have his usual dribbling in to corners escapades but I think he will finally set up Benzema possibly multiple times. Mvila will probably start and hold the back down - and I do hope Cabaye continues - he has really been very good.
France wins this one going away. France -150 for 2.5 units. Most likely final France 3-0.
24. England / Ukraine: Theo Wolcott came on for England and made a huge impact - scoring one and assisting the other to come from a 2-1 deficit in the last 25 minutes and win. He appears to have made a miraculous recovery since his hamstring pull yesterday - and might be in the lineup tomorrow.
England are a very different type of team - their formation and strategy are widely varied - and it is important when handicapping to get it right. You saw it in the first two game - was that the same England team against Sweden that we saw against France? Most of the players were the same - just a totally different formation and strategy caused a totally different types of games. So how will they play tomorrow? I expect much closer to France than to Sweden.
I think Rooney will start in place of Caroll - and will play tucked in behind Wellbeck - almost in a 1 striker attack. I expect to see the back 4 firmly in place - and when the Ukraine get the ball I expect to see two banks of 4 that will look very familiar to those who saw the Eng / France game. England will then look to counter - and certainly having Rooney as an attacking option will help things for them.
Shevchenko is "50/50" to play - and to be honest - if he is anything less than 100% the Ukraine should leave him on the bench. Im not sure there is a slower striker in the tournament - and add to that a bad knee? But on the other hand - I doubt they can keep him out of the lineup because of what this means to the Ukraine and to him - he has earned it if he can do it. But where are the goals going to come from for Ukraine? I think everyone saw the problems for them against France - just no concept on offense - and constantly sending hopeful balls in to hopeful areas for hopeful chances. England will be packed back in a formation that requires a true playmaker - like a point guard in basketball against a zone - to break it down. I dont see a yellow jersey with that guy.
Im see a lack of chances in this one. I am worried about the desperation factor as the game goes on if it is scoreless - as we have seen in these other 3rd round games there is a point where the Ukraine will have to press - and open things up at the back. Surprisingly - it is possible that the best thing for an under is for the Ukraine to score and be up 1-0, and just absorb pressure the rest of the game because Im not sure England will be able to break down a parked bus either.
Im on the Under 2.5 -115 for 2 units. Most likely result 0-0.

My opinion is that it could have easily been interpreted as him "gaining an advantage" by being in that position. Afterall, he scored about 3 seconds later.
I just think the interpretation COULD have been either way.

Good day - I will take it.
That Ireland loss will sting - but how can I complain with that last Spain goal that I still think BOTH guys were offside?

This is just a crazy good cross - Modric really deserved more from this tournament. And I guess the same could be said for him at Tottenham too....
