Suggestions for Soccer

I get that you are offering suggestions or whatever you think makes for intersesting sports conversation, but as you readily admit... you really know DICK about this sport, or its dynamics.

Draws are a part of the sport.  Mainly, it's due to the fact that it is actually goddamn difficult to score a goal in soccer.  And scoring a goal, as you might've noticed, is quite an exhilariting feat for a team.  When's the last time you saw an entire stadium and country ERUPT into a frenzy of sheer passion and joy over a single score, at any point in a game.  I'd bet you'd never see that reaction to a 2nd quarter cherry pick dunk in an NBA game.  In hoops, and baseball, scoring is too easy and prevalent for there to be any reason to allow for ties.

In Soccer, a Draw is often viewed as a favorable outcome.  And in tournaments, the difference between losing and drawing is HUGE in terms of the overall group, and points accumulated.

Offsides -- Teams use all 10 men to establish pressure and dominance in field position... if you allow players just to stand where they want, it disrupts any semblance of offense and defense.  Would you be Okay with the NFL allowing players to stand anywhere on the field on teh opposite side of the line of scrimmage?  In soccer that line of scrimmage is between the last defender and the first attacker.  The build up is the beauty of the fucking sport you twit!

Sports evolve, yes... but I suspect your capacity to understand anything other than "American" sports, has not.

I experienced ths phenomenon for the first time ever a few weeks ago, at the USA v Brazil friendly.  It was my first ever live soccer match.

Even tho it was clearly a mismatch, and Brazil had dominated an otherwise sloppy and listless USA.. when they scored and made it 2:1 right before halftime, the entire stadium erupted.  For that brief moment, it was pure euphoria.

Of course, in the 2nd half, Brazil finished what they'd started, and thumped the USA 4:1. lol

Still though, I've been to FedEx field several times for Redskins games, and never heard it as loud as it was after that goal the the USA.  That should tell you something right there, about how amazing it is to get a goal, and why it's worth the wait.

I love soccer but have to admit the offside rule needs to be addressed. It slows the game down and prevents free flowing soccer. The linesman blow so many offside calls, it's ridiculous. I realize it's difficult for the linesman when he has to watch where the player is when the ball is played to him.

The solution to opening up the game a bit but preventing players from just camping out near the goal would be to put in an offside line similar to where the blue lines are in hockey.
