World Cup 2014 Thread....

No one saw that embarrassment coming by Spain.. No one.

This now marks two consecutive world stage games where the Spaniards have been absolutely dismantled.  Brazil did it last year by the score of 3-0 in the Confed. Cup, and now the Dutch with their blitzkrieg today.

First opening round play is up next. Chile -1.5 (2); Chile -2.5 (.25); Chile wins and Aussies dont score (.75).  This should be a scrimmage.   GL, everyone.

A review of what I saw today....

Cameroons defense was lucky.  Lucky to not have given up more today, and I have learned - these are not things that are easily fixed.  Look at the Mexico goal - the gap that was between the center backs was amazing - and both watched the Mexico player (I think dos santos) easily receive a ball between them.  This happened over and over an over - and then on top of it - the flanks and breaks were there all day for Mexico.

Not impressed at all with Mexico's finishing and buildup today - I think they should have done much more.  I am curious to see if Mexico is going to get too much of a bump by bettors after this one.  Still feel like Croatia is the class of the 3 contenders to go through with Brazil.

I have no idea what to make of the Spain / Neth game.  I really don't.  I have watched enough of these tournaments to know that these teams rarely bounce back - there were fundamental issues that Spain had that remind me of France 4 years ago. 

Casillas?  Seriously?  There is a very interesting fact about this WC - I wrote it earlier - but 3 of the top teams GK's did not even start at their club teams - and he is one of them.  I rarely cap keepers in to a game - I feel like they even out in the end for the most part - but have been on the wrong end of the stick in 2 of the 3 games so far.  He looked lost today.  On the ground way too quickly.  Just terrible technique.

And I don't know what to adjust about my thoughts with the Dutch either.  They played like I thought they would - just much better.  They might match up well against a team like Chile who should be easy to counter against.  The RVP goal was just a thing of beauty.

But overall - have no idea what to do with both second round games in this group now...  Going to have to let it marinate and get some clarity in the coming days....
