I am not betting on top scorer - but if I were - I would pick a side that has at least one game against a team that can be blown out, and a side that has predominantly one guy who does the scoring.  Bosnia for example play Iran - so Dzeko might be worth a look.  Or maybe Lukaku with Algeria and S Korea on the schedule.

I went with Miroslav Klose considering Germany is approximately 4:1 GF:GA in the last 3 World Cups and they are only going with a single Striker for 2014. Their group will be on the attack in attempts to take a 2nd place behind either Germany or Portugal so I see a lot of counterattack opportunities. Doubt they will be playing for the draws.

Additionally, you may want to consider Diego Costa from Spain. He is 3rd in Goals Scored in League play behind Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo but he's getting +2550 as opposed to +1310 and +660. Their group is weak with a different Netherlands and Australia. Spain can score a lot.

Klose may not see the pitch the entire tournament. He was only added to the team in an effort to get him the German W/C goal scoring record. One goal. If Germany can get a comfortable lead in any game, he will be brought in to look for that one goal. Definitely not someone who will compete for The Golden Boot

Hi Van, Great to see you around, I like your assessments of virtually everything except tonight's game, Host nations always tend to come out in style, France won 3-0 in 1998, 2002 was not a major nation, 2006 Germany banged 4 past Costa Rica and Last time out South Africa played an exciting 1-1 with Mexico which pushed the total of 2. Tonight's game is either a Brazil samba style thrashing 3/4-0 or a entertaining 2-1 game imo.

Klose will not play the entire tournament, yes. Maybe he won't even play in every single game. And I also agree that Klose won't win the golden boot, there are atleast 20 players more likely to win it in my view.

Franz I rarely disagree with your oppinion or thoughts, but Klose was not brought to the World Cup so he can break the record. Löw is surely not the coach to nominate players so they can reach individual goals. Consider Ballack 2012, the whole nation wanted Ballack at the EC so he could fulfill his dream and win a big international title and furthermore have a worthy end to his career. Well Löw didn't care, left him at home because he thought other players were better. 
Truth is, although Klose is 36, he is still a reliable scorer and a good contrast to the remaining offensive players. There are games in which tiki-taka and fancy football won't get you a goal. Games that are decided by a corner kick or a boring cross that is headed in - Klose is the perfect converter in such circumstances. 

@ Vanzack: Wow sir, I was away a couple of days and this thread absolutely exploded. I agree with most of your picks and thoughts, some very smart bets you made.
I wish you a succesfull World Cup.

am looking to do a two team ML parlay to open the tournament.  which of these two do you guys feel have the best shot at winning this weekend: Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay.  a 2 teamer pays close to even $.  thoughts and insights are appreciated.

This is a gambling thread, poor spelling, bad grammar, chewing gum in class, all matter little.

I will say Colombia  is far from a one man team. Pekerman is a great coach. We may be overrated in the FIFA rankings but underrated everywhere else.

Ecuador may not advance but will give France and the Swiss fits. CONMEBOL is a great deal tougher this WC - especially on this continent.

Colombian        Those were the days....

I really feel a South American team will win this WC.....from weather, traffic fears, all the unrest(ie rioting) and overall local mayhem, may very well be a BIG factor what correlates onto the "pitch" Those teams might just be better prepared for tho type of "enviroment"

Went with double result of BRASIL WIN and Under 2.5 goals at +205

Hoping for a 1-0 or 2-0 Brasil win.  Highly possible result...
