kiidvegas, chasing is fatalistic and WILL kill you. In your calculations, you not only made a 16% wager which is absurd, you didn't include juice. I don't have time to get into it (again) but check any one of neilsy's threads and I'm probably in there saying the same thing. Basically, the longer you do it, the more likely you are to bust completely.
As for the live wagering, you only get good lines because Joe Public is still making them for you by betting with their guts. This will evaporate sooner than later, then how will you bet? It's better to base your wagers off of your KSA because that is determined by you, not the bookmakers.

I agree. Those two books have a great set-up and always have tons of options. The downside though is if you do make a killing at live betting, they're likely to limit you or toss you out. But, I suppose that's something you worry about when the time comes.

I agree. Those two books have a great set-up and always have tons of options. The downside though is if you do make a killing at live betting, they're likely to limit you or toss you out. But, I suppose that's something you worry about when the time comes.

Just got home.. think I see Becker got his ass kick, which is the biggest surprise to me. I keep waiting for him to break open and realize his potential, but he always seems to win a couple big matches then lose to someone who he should actually dominate.. case in point tonight. Jankovic got rocked.. not a big surprise, but at the same time she is a former #1 and capable of winning 6-0, 6-0 in these early rounds, just as easily she can lose 6-2, 6-3. I thought it was good value against Peng where I thought she should be about -350. She laid a brick tho. Looks like Cornet is getting killed too? Again, such huge potential.. and such under performance.
Have no idea how the parley is doing, altho I see Youzhny up 2-1, the rest must be delayed due to early matches.. I think OKS won in OT? I guess that's nice.. my run of College Hoops continues.. it looks like a small loss on the night tho, at best..

Was my buddy's birthday yesterday and my Dad's birthday last week.. decided to walk into the local pool hall and picked the first cue I found off the rack and proceeded to dominate 12 other players in their Wednesday night tournament, my first action in over a month. It's a pretty talented field on a weekly basis. Felt really good and had a lot of fun.. pissed 10 of them off tho that I did not pick up a cue in 6 weeks and still can run tables right off the start.
Fuck it.. had a loss on the Account here tonight, no worries. Didn't really like that much other than the College game. Other than the NFL, I've been running hot.. no surprise. Like I've said before, I could care less about daily, weekly, or even monthly results.. it's about yearly results and if you can make a living off this yearly. You won't see anyone grind on a day-to-day basis like me, day-in, day-out.. I'm always around.. and right now I don't even have the 100% time to dedicate to this like I want. Drop back in in May and see how I'm doing.. then come visit in September.. and when December rolls around you'll see this in the 50K range. And that is a modest potential.. And you'll never see me advertise going Tout. I don't need to make money off other people.. I'll make my own money and if others benefit along the way.. then I'll figure out some way to add that to my RRSP contribution for the year.

The Evolution is going to change that and it's only fair that people pay for it... It'll even be better for the customer as they will be able to get plays sent out to them via email or text, and we as cappers will be more accountable.
I don't even know if I'd go tout in the traditional sense for sure; maybe I'd set up a managed sports fund where people invest so that they don't even need to worry about receiving and making the plays. Maybe I'd charge a little, maybe I'd charge a lot. There are only a few people who can make steady profits in this industry but there are many more who can't, or just don't have the time. Why let those people reap the same rewards that we do without any of the work?
I'm not saying I'm going to go tout for sure but it is a goal of mine once I can obtain more consistent results, which may be in a year, 5 years, or never. But I'll tell you right now that if I did get to that consistency standard, and suddenly decided to stop posting my plays, someone would request to pay for the plays anyways. So it would be a thing of demand and supply. "Going tout" has such a negative aura surrounding it but it doesn't have to. I'm going to try and change it with an Evolution: no more slimy tactics, no more marketing bullshit, and most of all, no more losing! If people aren't willing to pay for that then so be it, but judging by the amount of people who already buy into the old system, I'm assuming they'll buy into the Evolution as well.

Hedge funds do not generally 'hedge' their bets. Their returns are much more volatile then the market as a whole as they generally use leverage and concentrate their bets.
Historically, hedge funds were unique in their ability to short the market-- profit when the market goes down. This is where the term hedge fund originates but it is now antiquated.

There are several strategies taken up by "Hedge Funds" but your true market neutral fund is completely hedged on both the long and short side and look to maximize alpha while reducing their beta. These funds typically are not up as much on a year the major indexes are up, usually trail by a few percentage points but they truly outperform when the major indexes are down by being up. Typically unless the fund is long only or short only, majority of funds are hedged in some way, either through derivatives or synthetic positions.
Sure, I don't disagree. However, the original poster implied that hedge funds hedge their bets and are thus less risky.
The majority of hedge funds are more volatile than the market, as I'm sure you would agree.
My only point is that when talking about reducing risk, I suggest one doesn't use the term hedge fund ;)
